You can connect a keyboard to a Samsung Galaxy Tab, but that does not mean you can play Genshin Impact with WASD. As of August 18, 2026, no native keyboard-and-mouse gameplay mode for the Android version is verified in HoYoverse’s support material. The tablet can use a physical keyboard in Android and compatible apps; the game must separately support those inputs.
What a keyboard can—and cannot—do in Genshin Impact
A Galaxy Tab can recognize Bluetooth, USB, and compatible Samsung keyboard-cover hardware. A connected keyboard can type in supported text fields, navigate some Android interfaces, and work in other apps. Those system capabilities do not bind keys such as WASD, Space, or Shift to a character’s movement or combat in Genshin Impact.
To check the options on your installation, open Genshin Impact, open the Paimon Menu, then go to Settings → Controls. Look for a control-type or input-device selector. Labels and options can differ by platform and game version. If the Android client offers only touchscreen controls, there is no in-game keyboard mode to enable. Do not assume that a working pointer or detected keystroke means the game has mapped it to camera or combat controls.

- Put the keyboard into pairing mode. Use its pairing or device-selection key if it has one.
- On the tablet, open Settings → Connected devices → Pair new device. The wording can vary with Android and One UI versions.
- Choose the keyboard from the available devices and accept a pairing request if one appears.
- Open Samsung Notes, a browser search box, or another text field and type a short test.
Android documents this general pairing process at its Bluetooth and physical-keyboard help page. Successful typing in another app confirms the tablet connection; it does not establish that Genshin accepts gameplay input.

If pairing does not work
- Charge the keyboard or replace its batteries, then retry pairing mode.
- Turn Bluetooth off and back on. If the keyboard is listed under paired devices, remove it and pair again.
- Disconnect the keyboard from any phone, computer, or other tablet it may still be using.
- Restart the Galaxy Tab and test the keyboard in another app before troubleshooting the game.
Attach a compatible Samsung Book Cover Keyboard
On compatible Galaxy Tab models, Samsung Book Cover Keyboards connect through POGO-pin contacts rather than requiring a separate Bluetooth pairing or power source. Attach the cover using the camera cutout as a guide, open its stand, and align the keyboard connector with the tablet contacts; magnets help position it. Test typing in Samsung Notes or a browser.
Compatibility is model-specific: a cover made for one Tab size or generation is not necessarily compatible with another. Check the exact tablet model and the accessory’s supported-model list before buying. Samsung explains keyboard-cover connections and physical-keyboard settings at its Galaxy tablet support page.

If the cover is not detected
- Confirm the exact tablet model and keyboard-cover variant.
- Check that the tablet is aligned and the POGO-pin contacts are clean and undamaged.
- Remove a case or other obstruction that may prevent the connectors from meeting.
- Install available tablet software updates and test in a text field outside the game.
Set up physical-keyboard options
On a Samsung tablet, open Settings → General management → Physical keyboard. Depending on the device, you can review the keyboard layout, whether to show the on-screen keyboard, shortcuts, language switching, and modifier-key behavior. Android devices using Google’s settings may instead show Settings → System → Keyboard → Physical keyboard; available labels vary.

- Initially leave Show on-screen keyboard enabled so touch controls remain available while you test the keyboard.
- Check the selected layout if punctuation or special keys do not match the physical keycaps.
- Reset customized modifier keys if Ctrl, Alt, or other modifiers behave unexpectedly.
- Test in a text field or another app before treating a game’s lack of response as a pairing fault.
Why DeX and key-mapping apps are not equivalent to native support
Samsung DeX
DeX changes the tablet’s interface to a desktop-style environment and can make keyboard, mouse, windowing, and multitasking more convenient. It does not convert Genshin’s Android client into the PC client or independently add game-input support. A mouse pointer moving around Android is not the same as camera control inside the game.

Third-party key mappers
Some tools try to translate keyboard or mouse input into simulated touch events. They are not an official Genshin keyboard mode, and their compatibility may break after game or Android updates. They can require accessibility, overlay, or USB-debugging permissions, and may introduce latency, missed inputs, cursor problems, or privacy and account-policy concerns. Do not assume a ban is certain, but review HoYoverse’s current policies and avoid tools that inject scripts, automate actions, modify game files, or otherwise interact with the game in prohibited ways. If native touch controls are not acceptable, prefer a supported input option or the PC version over relying on a mapper.
Physical-control alternatives
Bluetooth controllers: check the conflicting guidance
HoYoverse’s Help Center has conflicting controller advice. A page updated October 8, 2025 says controllers are supported only on PC and that Android and iOS are not supported: controller and platform guidance. A separate page updated September 17, 2025 lists Android Bluetooth support for DualSense on Android 12 or later, DualShock 4 on Android 10 or later, and Xbox Wireless Controller and Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 on Android 9 or later: supported controller list.

Because those official pages disagree, treat the listed controllers as candidates, not a guarantee. Check the latest guidance and test compatibility on your tablet before buying a controller specifically for Genshin.
PC or remote play
For dependable keyboard-and-mouse controls, use the native PC version on suitable computer hardware. A compatible remote-play or streaming setup from a computer may let a tablet act as a display or endpoint, but that is not native keyboard support in the Samsung tablet’s Android game client. Availability, latency, and setup depend on the specific service and network.

Check tablet requirements separately from input support
A keyboard connection does not change whether a tablet meets the game’s hardware requirements. HoYoverse’s current Android requirements list Android 10.0 or later, ARMv8-A 64-bit architecture, a non-PowerVR GPU, at least 4 GB of RAM, and 40 GB of available storage, with Snapdragon 660/Adreno 512 or Helio G88/Mali-G52 and above. Its recommended configuration is Android 12.0 or later, at least 6 GB of RAM, 60 GB of available storage, and Snapdragon 855, Dimensity 1000, Kirin 980, or above. These are requirements, not a performance guarantee; settings, free storage, thermals, and software state also matter. See HoYoverse’s system requirements.
Should you buy a keyboard for Genshin?
If your only goal is native WASD movement, mouse camera control, or PC-style key bindings in Android Genshin, a keyboard is not a reliable purchase for that purpose. Try a keyboard you already own first. Buy a keyboard cover or Bluetooth keyboard if you also value typing, productivity, browsing, or DeX—not on the assumption it unlocks game controls.

More expensive tablet covers may make sense for productivity but do not improve Genshin input compatibility.
