To get Pokémon eggs in Scarlet and Violet, put compatible Pokémon in your party, start a picnic, and check the basket periodically. Egg Power from food or sandwiches improves egg collection; a focused party helps ensure the eggs come from the pair you intend to breed.
How do I get eggs in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
- Choose compatible Pokémon. Put the pair you want to breed in your party. If you want eggs from a particular pairing, remove other compatible Pokémon so there is no ambiguity about which pair may produce them.
- Start a picnic. Open the main menu while exploring and choose Picnic. Pokémon can picnic in many places around the region, as Nintendo describes in its picnic and sandwich overview.
- Check the basket. Eggs appear in the picnic basket over time. Check it periodically and collect any eggs you want to hatch.
- Hatch the eggs. Add eggs to your party and travel until they hatch. Check that the intended Pokémon are compatible before spending time collecting and hatching eggs; see the breeding compatibility reference for details.
What does Egg Power do?
Egg Power is a Meal Power supplied by food or sandwiches. It improves egg collection during picnics, making it useful when you want to collect eggs more efficiently. Nintendo explains that sandwiches can provide Meal Powers, while detailed breeding references describe Egg Power’s effect on egg collection: Nintendo’s picnic and sandwich overview and Serebii’s breeding mechanics reference.
The exact collection rate depends on the Egg Power level, but a dated official source establishing specific rates is not available here. Treat Egg Power as an improvement to collection, not a guaranteed number of eggs per minute.

There is no traditional Daycare or Nursery routine for producing eggs in these games. Compatible Pokémon share a picnic, and eggs accumulate in the basket. For predictable results, bring only the intended breeding pair; with multiple compatible pairings in the party, eggs may come from different species. How do Everstone and Destiny Knot inheritance work?
Everstone for nature
Give an Everstone to the parent whose nature you want to pass down. This is useful when breeding for a particular nature, but it does not determine the offspring’s other traits. See Serebii’s breeding mechanics reference for inheritance details.
Destiny Knot for individual strengths
Give a Destiny Knot to a parent when you want to influence the inheritance of individual strengths (IVs). It affects inheritance rather than guaranteeing that the offspring has perfect IVs. For either item, make the held-item choice based on the trait you are targeting, and verify the species’ breeding setup before collecting eggs. More detail is available in the Game8 breeding guide.

How do you transfer Egg Moves with Mirror Herb?
Mirror Herb lets an eligible Pokémon learn an Egg Move from another Pokémon at a picnic, so breeding is not required for this transfer. The learner and the Pokémon that knows the move do not need to be the same species or gender.
- Confirm the target Pokémon can learn the move as an Egg Move, and make sure the other Pokémon knows that move.
- Give the target Pokémon a Mirror Herb and leave at least one move slot open.
- Put both Pokémon in your party and start a picnic.
- Wait briefly, then check the target Pokémon’s moves. If the move has not transferred, confirm the move is eligible, the learner has an open slot, and the Mirror Herb is held by the learner.

Which game do I need?
You need either Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet for Nintendo Switch; the breeding and picnic instructions above apply to both versions. Nintendo identifies both as Switch games in its official game announcement. If you already own one, no additional game is needed for these mechanics.
