Microsoft’s Ninja Gaiden 4 Xbox Wireless Controller is an official Xbox Design Lab configuration, not a conventional boxed limited-edition release. The standard model starts at $94.98 in the U.S.; a separate Elite Series 2 version starts at $184.98. Both feature manga-inspired artwork of Ryu Hayabusa and Yakumo, and customization can raise the final price.
What the Ninja Gaiden 4 controller is
Microsoft announced the two controllers on September 24, 2025, as Xbox Design Lab products. The themed components are applied to existing Xbox Wireless Controller and Elite Series 2 hardware; this is not a new controller platform or a console bundle. Xbox says the designs are exclusive to Xbox Design Lab. Xbox Wire’s announcement and the official product page identify both versions.
Design: Ryu Hayabusa and Yakumo artwork
The manga-print-inspired design uses a themed top case and side caps. Its imagery includes Ryu’s red Dragon Sword, Yakumo’s blue-handled katana, and Yakumo’s Oni mask. The art is the central distinction from a standard controller; it does not itself add performance features.

Microsoft’s September 2025 announcement gives these U.S. starting MSRPs. The familiar “$95” headline rounds the standard model’s $94.98 starting price; it is not a guaranteed checkout total. Xbox Design Lab lets customers customize components, and selected upgrades can increase the total.

Buy or configure either model through the official Xbox product page. Microsoft identifies Design Lab as the exclusive sales channel. Stock and pricing can vary by region and over time: Xbox catalog snapshots have shown both a starting price and a “SOLD OUT” indicator for the standard design, so check the live page before planning a purchase.
What can be customized?
Design Lab supports customization of major controller components, including top cases, thumbsticks, and D-pads; other colors and finishes may also be offered in the configurator. The Xbox accessories catalog describes the Design Lab customization range. Available options can change, and choosing upgrades may add to the starting price. Standard controller features and compatibility
The standard design uses the Xbox Wireless Controller platform. Microsoft’s announcement confirms a 3.5mm headset jack; the standard controller platform also includes Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth connectivity and a Share button. It works with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, as well as supported Windows PCs and mobile devices. Compatibility depends on the device, operating system, connection method, and game or service, so this should not be read as a promise that every phone or cloud-gaming setup will work.
For Windows 10 and Windows 11, Xbox’s product page lists Bluetooth, the included USB cable, or an Xbox Wireless Adapter as connection options; the adapter is sold separately. Bluetooth, USB, and Xbox Wireless are distinct ways to connect, and the right option depends on the PC and setup.

How the Elite Series 2 version differs
The Elite option carries the same Ninja Gaiden 4 theme on Elite Series 2 hardware. Its higher starting price is for the Elite controller’s added adjustment and control features, not simply for different artwork.
- Adjustable-tension thumbsticks.
- Shorter hair-trigger locks.
- Wraparound rubberized grips.
- Rear paddles and adjustable or interchangeable controls.
- Button-profile switching and a 3.5mm headset jack.
These are features of the underlying Elite Series 2 controller, not Ninja Gaiden-specific additions. They offer more configuration choices but do not guarantee better results in a game. The relevant question is whether you will use the paddles, trigger locks, and adjustable controls.

Which version makes sense?
- Choose the standard model if you want the Ryu and Yakumo design, a regular Xbox controller, or a themed second controller without paying Elite pricing.
- Choose Elite if you already want Elite Series 2 controls and will use its paddles, adjustable thumbsticks, or trigger locks. Its $184.98 starting price is nearly twice the standard model’s starting price.
- Consider a regular Design Lab controller if personalization matters more than Ninja Gaiden artwork. Xbox’s U.S. catalog has listed a non-themed Design Lab Xbox Wireless Controller starting at $79.99; that catalog price may change.
- Skip the themed premium if you want the least expensive standard Xbox controller or do not value the franchise artwork.
What the announcement does not establish
Microsoft’s announcement does not say that the controller includes Ninja Gaiden 4, so treat the game and controller as separate purchases. It also does not establish a numbered production run, fixed edition size, certificate of authenticity, guaranteed scarcity, or exclusive in-game content. The controller is a themed Design Lab release, but calling it a limited edition or predicting collector value would go beyond the confirmed details.
