The Eighth Trial of Aql is the quest The Footsteps of the Fremen, inside Sietch Ta’lab at the base of the Eastern Shield Wall. Complete the first seven trials, bring a Cutteray and a weapon, then enter the ground-level crevice near Mysa Tarill. The route includes a lore quiz, an ecology-symbol puzzle, a ring mechanism and a hostile encounter.
Where to find the Eighth Trial of Aql
Open the Journey menu and use the trial’s location clue: “The crevice that hides… the mountain that protects… the sands that provide. Home.” Search at the base of the Eastern Shield Wall for the crevice entrance to Sietch Ta’lab. It is near the border with Mysa Tarill, also described in guides as close to the Jabal Eifrit Al-Gharab border.
The map marker can appear to point to a higher spot on the cliff. Look at ground level for the marked crevice rather than climbing toward the apparent cliff-top location.

What to bring and unlock first
- Complete the previous seven Trials of Aql; the eighth trial is gated behind them.
- Carry a Cutteray to clear stone boulders inside the sietch.
- Bring a weapon for the hostile encounter near the end.
An older guide reports that another player occupying the sietch can prevent entry. If you are blocked, check the current in-game prompt; the occupancy behavior is not established as current across versions.

How to complete The Footsteps of the Fremen
- Answer the ornate-door questions. Follow the passage to the ornate door and enter these answers in order: Nilotic al-Ourouba; Poritrin; Salusa Secundus; Bela Teguese; Rossak; Thurgrod; Harmonthep. Spellings can vary between guide versions and quest data, so follow the wording accepted by your live game if one differs.
- Clear the blocked passage. Continue down the stairs after the door opens and use your Cutteray on the stone boulders.
- Match the ecology lesson symbols. In the hologram room, arrange the symbols as three rows: Bind – Dune – Grass; Planting – Shelter – Downwind; Animal – Aerate – Soil.
- Align the ring mechanism. Rotate the rings until the route connects to the deathstill, then interact with the deathstill to open the way onward.
- Open the blood safe and leave. Use the nearby console to open the blood safe shown in the projection. Continue through the newly opened route, defeat the Maas Kharet assault, and find the exit.
Rewards
Dune Awakening game quest data, version 1.5.3.3, updated September 24, 2026, lists 450 XP, Ari’s Pistol, Fremen Deathstill, Maw of the Worm Wall Relief, and Fremen Sietch Swatch. Earlier guides list fewer rewards, so the version-tagged quest data is the more complete reference.
The Fremen Deathstill is a buildable in-game reward associated with water processing. An item guide from July 2025 says it requires power and describes corpse processing, but those crafting and throughput details may change with game updates.
