Arc System Works has acknowledged unauthorized access and data leakage involving Guilty Gear -Strive-, but the official information does not confirm that the game’s complete source code or a full Season 5 roster was leaked. Season 5 itself is official: Version 2.00 launched it with Jam Kuradoberi as its first playable character. Robo-Ky is also listed as available on the official news page. Other alleged character names remain unverified unless Arc System Works confirms them.
What Arc System Works confirmed about the incident
Arc System Works said it had taken security countermeasures after unauthorized network access using leaked data and against specific harmful mods. The company apologized for the inconvenience and said it would not disclose technical details that could compromise security. Its statement acknowledges unauthorized access and data leakage; it does not describe a complete breach architecture or say that the entire game source code was stolen or published. The distinction matters: “data leak” does not automatically mean “source-code leak.” A source-code claim needs evidence that authentic, readable program source was exposed. A leaked development build, compiled game files, extracted assets, debug data, or a reference in game files are different things. Without verifiable files and credible technical analysis of their origin and contents, a video or screenshot cannot establish which category is involved.

The Version 2.00 announcement listed Jam’s individual DLC at $6.99 and Season Pass 5 at $24.99 in Arc System Works America’s announcement. Those are publisher-listed US-dollar prices from that announcement, not a guarantee of current price in every region, storefront, or sale. The official site’s current game page also describes the title as having exceeded four million users worldwide. That is Arc System Works’ marketing statement, not independently audited sales data. Official game homepage.
What the viral source-code claim proves—and what it doesn’t
A viral video claims a large source-code dump revealed unreleased characters. That video is evidence that the claim is circulating, not independent confirmation that the files are genuine, came from the reported incident, or establish a final roster. Watch the video making the claim.

Even authentic development material would need careful interpretation. A character name, model, placeholder, or internal identifier could reflect an early idea, reused material, content later canceled, or a plan that changed. It would not, by itself, prove that the character is approved for release, belongs to Season 5, is playable, or will arrive in a particular order. - Reproducible technical analysis: can help establish whether files are genuine and what they contain, if the analyst documents provenance and limitations.
- Documented datamining: may show that a reference exists in particular files, but a reference is not a release commitment.
- Anonymous posts, screenshots, or video narration: remain claims until corroborated.
- Fan predictions and wishlists: are speculation, not leak evidence.
For a serious source-code claim, useful verification would include a traceable archive or repository, file hashes and provenance, and independent analysis distinguishing source from compiled assets or extracted resources. The official information cited here does not provide that verification or confirm a complete Season 5 lineup.
Does this mean players’ accounts or computers were compromised?
No such broad conclusion follows from the developer’s statement. Arc System Works said it took action against unauthorized network access using leaked data and against harmful mods, but did not say that all players were hacked, that player accounts were compromised, or that players’ computers were infected. The statement does not identify the exploit or provide evidence for claims of account takeover or malware affecting everyone who played online.

It did say security work affected the development timetable: Ranked Match implementation was delayed while security measures were prepared, and some updates were deployed without detailed public explanations. The company did not disclose the attack vector or exploit chain. Arc System Works’ explanation.
What players should do
- Check the official news page and platform storefront for confirmed updates and announcements.
- Install game updates through the normal platform storefront.
- Avoid unofficial builds, suspicious downloads, modified clients, and archives advertised as leaked source code. Files connected to an alleged breach can be unsafe, and their possession or distribution may raise legal issues.
- Use the game’s reporting mechanisms for harmful online behavior where applicable.
