Yes—you can play Apple Arcade games on a Mac through the Apple Games app or the App Store. Open Arcade, choose a title with a Mac-compatible download, and install it while signed in with an Apple Account that has Apple Arcade access. The important catch is that Apple Arcade is not a guarantee that every game runs on Mac: compatibility varies by title, Mac hardware, macOS version, region, and game category.
What you need before downloading
- A Mac that meets the individual game’s hardware and macOS requirements. Apple does not publish one universal minimum Mac specification for the entire catalog.
- The latest available macOS is recommended.
- An Apple Account signed in on the Mac.
- An active Apple Arcade subscription, an Apple One plan that includes Arcade, or access through Family Sharing.
- Enough free storage for the game and its updates.
- Internet access for the initial download. Apple says Arcade games can be played online or offline, but individual games may require a connection for multiplayer, authentication, synchronization, events, or updates (Apple).
- An optional compatible controller for games designed around gamepad input.
Apple currently describes the service as offering hundreds of games. Its catalog is not identical across devices or regions.
How to subscribe to Apple Arcade on a Mac
Using the Apple Games app
- Open Apple Games.
- Click Arcade.
- Click the subscription button.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to start Apple Arcade or an eligible trial.
Subscription changes and cancellation are managed through the App Store. If Apple Games is unavailable on your Mac, use the App Store route instead.
Using the App Store
- Open the App Store.
- Select Arcade.
- Choose the subscription option and complete the onscreen steps.
Apple Arcade is also included in Apple One bundles. A standalone plan is generally the straightforward choice if you want only games; compare Apple One when your household already pays for services such as Apple Music, Apple TV, or iCloud+ (Apple Arcade).

How to check whether a game works on Mac
Do not assume that an Arcade subscription makes every title available on every Apple device. Apple’s current categories distinguish Arcade Originals, which are offered across Mac and other Apple platforms, from App Store Greats, which Apple lists for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro rather than Mac (Apple’s catalog description).
- Open Apple Games or the App Store.
- Click Arcade, browse the catalog, or search for a title.
- Open the game’s product page.
- Confirm that the page offers a Mac download and review its stated requirements.
- If you want a gamepad, look for the controller icon. Its presence indicates controller support for that title and device.
Apple says availability can also vary with hardware, software, country, or region (Apple’s Mac guide). A game appearing on your iPhone but not offering a Mac download is normally a platform-availability issue, not a subscription failure.
How to download and launch a game
- In Apple Games or the App Store, select Arcade.
- Browse New Games, view all games, or search for a title.
- Open the product page and verify Mac compatibility.
- Click Get, the download button, or the equivalent install control.
- Authenticate with your Apple Account if prompted.
- Launch the installed game from Apple Games, the App Store, Launchpad, the Applications folder, or the game’s Play button when shown.
With an active subscription, Apple says Arcade games do not require separate per-game purchases, and it does not state a download-count limit (Apple Support). The installed files do not become permanent purchases: access depends on the subscription remaining active.

Keyboard, mouse, and controller support
Keyboard and mouse
Input support is title-specific. Check the product description, then inspect the game’s controls or settings after launch. Some games work naturally with keyboard and mouse; touch-first or console-style games may offer limited support or feel better with a controller. Apple does not promise keyboard-and-mouse support for every Mac Arcade title.
Pairing a controller
- Put the controller into pairing mode.
- On the Mac, open System Settings > Bluetooth.
- Select the controller and complete pairing.
- Launch the game after pairing.
- Open the game’s control settings and check button mapping.
Use the product page’s controller icon as the compatibility check; Apple does not identify one universal list of supported controller models in its general Arcade guidance (Apple Support). If a controller connects but does nothing, quit the game, confirm Bluetooth still shows it as connected, reopen the game, and test its input settings.
Playing offline
Download and open the game once while connected to the internet before relying on offline play. Apple markets Arcade as playable online or offline, but multiplayer, account checks, cloud synchronization, live events, and updates can still require a connection. Offline availability is therefore a game-by-game practical limit, not a promise that every feature works without internet.

Continuing progress from an iPhone or iPad
Apple says compatible Arcade games can provide saves and progress across devices when you download the game while signed in with the same Apple Account (Apple Support).
- Use the same Apple Account on the Mac, iPhone, and iPad.
- Install the same game edition on each device.
- Keep iCloud and the relevant game data enabled.
- Play while connected occasionally so a save has time to synchronize.
- Allow for title-specific differences; Apple does not guarantee identical cross-device behavior for every game.
Family Sharing and subscription choices
One Apple Arcade subscription can be shared with up to five other members of the same Family Sharing group, for six people total, without separate Arcade subscriptions (Apple’s Mac guide). Family Sharing is not the same as sharing one Apple Account.
If you join a family group that already has Arcade, your individual subscription will not renew at the next billing date. If the group has no Arcade subscription, the family can use yours. Apple Arcade is intended for one family group rather than unrelated account sharing.

Cancellation ends access to Arcade games even if their files remain installed on the Mac. If iCloud is enabled, Apple says progress may remain available if you later resubscribe (Apple).
- Open the App Store.
- Click your account name in the bottom-left corner.
- Choose Account Settings.
- Under Manage, click Manage beside Subscriptions.
- Click Edit beside Apple Arcade or Apple One.
- Follow the onscreen cancellation instructions.
Cancel at least one day before the renewal date to avoid the next renewal, according to Apple’s Mac guide (Apple Support).

Troubleshooting common Mac problems

For rules, features, or errors unique to one game, Apple directs users to that game’s developer (Apple Support).
Is Apple Arcade a good fit for Mac players?
- Choose standalone Arcade if you want a curated, ad-free library without in-game purchases and do not need a specific title that lacks a Mac version.
- Consider Apple One if your household already pays for Apple Music, Apple TV, iCloud+, or other bundled services. Compare the services you would otherwise buy rather than assuming the bundle is always cheaper.
- Look elsewhere or buy individually if you mainly want major PC releases, the broadest desktop catalog, no recurring subscription, or games that Apple Arcade does not offer on Mac.
Apple describes Arcade games as free of advertising and in-app purchases within the service (Apple Arcade), but the subscription trade-off is decisive: ending it ends access to the Arcade titles.
