Yes. Ubisoft disclosed that AI tools helped create some in-game assets in Anno 117: Pax Romana. The company says its artists used those tools for iteration, prototyping and exploration, while the finished game reflects the team’s craft and creative vision. The available reporting does not establish how many assets were AI-assisted, which images were affected, or whether the promised replacement for a disputed image has shipped.
What Ubisoft actually disclosed
As quoted by PC Gamer on November 18, 2025, Ubisoft’s Steam disclosure states: “AI tools were used to help create some in game assets. In all such cases, the final product reflects our team’s craft and creative vision.”
That wording confirms assistance with some assets, not that the game’s art was generated wholesale or that every contested image was made with AI. Ubisoft did not provide a public asset count or a complete list in the reporting available here.

How Ubisoft says the tools were used
Ubisoft’s reported explanation, also carried by PC Gamer on November 16, 2025, describes AI as part of the artists’ process rather than a replacement for the art team:

Ubisoft said Anno 117 had the franchise’s largest-ever artist team to help meet the project’s scope. That staffing and workflow description is Ubisoft’s account; the cited reports do not independently document the production pipeline.
The disputed image and the planned patch
After players highlighted an image with visible defects, Ubisoft reportedly called it “a placeholder asset that unintentionally slipped through our review process.” The company said it would replace the image in an upcoming patch identified in the report as version 1.3.

The reporting does not verify that the replacement shipped, what the final image looks like, or whether other assets were changed. “Placeholder” is Ubisoft’s explanation for that incident, not proof that every disputed image had the same origin.
Why players objected
Coverage describes criticism on two separate grounds: players questioned the visible quality of the image and objected to AI-assisted artwork appearing in a released game. Those reactions should not be treated as unanimous; the sources do not measure the views of all players. Nor do they establish that every image criticized by players was AI-generated.

The confirmed point is limited but clear: Anno 117: Pax Romana includes some assets made with help from AI tools, according to Ubisoft’s own disclosure. Whether that affects a purchase depends on how you weigh disclosed production methods, the quality of the finished visuals and Ubisoft’s handling of the reported placeholder. The sources establish the disclosure and criticism, but not the current state of the artwork after patch 1.3.
PC Gamer reported the game’s release date as November 12, 2025. It also reported Ubisoft’s launch-period characterization that the title was the fastest-selling in the series’ 25-year history, without supplying a sales figure or an independent ranking.
