Short answer: On August 17, 2020, OnePlus announced that the original 2020 OnePlus Nord had been tuned for PUBG Mobile’s Extreme frame-rate option and would receive it through an OTA update “in a few weeks.” In this context, Extreme meant 60-FPS-class gameplay—not the separate 90-FPS mode promoted for selected OnePlus flagships. Contemporary evidence suggests the option became available during the August 2020 rollout period, although OnePlus’s published changelogs do not identify one definitive enabling build.
What OnePlus actually announced
In its August 17, 2020 community announcement, OnePlus said it had worked closely with the PUBG Mobile team to tune the original Nord for the game’s Extreme frame-rate feature. The company promised delivery through an over-the-air update “in a few weeks,” but did not name a build number or a universal release date.
That wording describes official software support, not a claim that every Nord would receive the setting simultaneously. OnePlus used incremental regional rollouts, and the game itself could also need updating.

OnePlus had already clarified in its August 6, 2020 90-FPS announcement that the Nord did not support PUBG Mobile’s 90 Hz gameplay at that time. Why the Nord needed software support
The original Nord had hardware suited to higher-refresh gaming: a 90 Hz AMOLED display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G platform, as listed in OnePlus’s US specifications and India specifications. However, PUBG Mobile controlled its graphics and frame-rate choices through device compatibility profiles and game optimization. A 90 Hz screen could refresh 90 times per second while the game remained capped at a lower rate; the panel alone could not unlock Extreme or 90 FPS.
When did the option appear?
The surviving announcements establish a rollout window, but not a conclusive enabling build.

- August 6: OnePlus said the Nord did not initially support 90 Hz PUBG gameplay and discussed bringing 60-FPS support.
- August 17: OnePlus formally announced Extreme-frame-rate tuning and promised an OTA update in a few weeks.
- August 23: OxygenOS 10.5.5 began rolling out; its published changelog did not list PUBG support.
- August 26: A contemporary video claimed the Nord offered Smooth + Extreme and HD + Extreme. This is secondary evidence, not a OnePlus release note.
- August 31: OxygenOS 10.5.6 began rolling out. OnePlus listed stability, camera, power and Bluetooth changes, but not PUBG Extreme support, in its announcement.
- September 6–7: OxygenOS 10.5.7 focused on camera, power, display, Bluetooth and call-quality improvements in the discussion thread; it likewise does not clearly identify PUBG as the enabling feature.
Therefore, the defensible conclusion is that support was promised via OTA and appears to have reached users during the August 2020 update period, while the exact OxygenOS build remains undocumented in the available official changelogs. For 10.5.6, OnePlus listed these regional identifiers: India 10.5.6.AC01DA, Europe 10.5.6.AC01BA and global 10.5.6.AC01AA.
How users were expected to check for Extreme
Menu names changed across PUBG Mobile versions, so this is the historical workflow rather than a guarantee of the current interface:

- Install the latest OxygenOS update offered for the original Nord.
- Update PUBG Mobile from the applicable app store.
- Restart PUBG Mobile; reboot the phone as well if the option remains absent.
- Open Settings, then Graphics.
- Select a preset compatible with the highest frame-rate option, historically Smooth.
- Open Frame Rate and look for Extreme.
- Apply the setting and restart the game if prompted or if the menu does not refresh.
OnePlus gave a similar update-and-restart instruction for its supported 90-FPS flagship rollout, but that guidance was not a Nord-specific promise.
What performance to expect
Extreme enabled a higher frame-rate setting; it did not guarantee a constant 60 FPS. Results could vary with temperature, battery level, background activity, game version, graphics preset and session length. Smooth + Extreme generally prioritizes responsiveness and thermal headroom. HD + Extreme trades image quality for more rendering work and may use more power or produce greater frame-time variation.

- A 90 Hz display and 60-FPS game output are different measurements.
- Extreme is a target or cap, not proof that every frame is rendered at 60 FPS.
- Long sessions, charging and high temperatures can trigger throttling.
- Battery life is typically worse at sustained higher frame rates.
If Extreme is missing or unstable
The option does not appear
Update both OxygenOS and PUBG Mobile, restart the app, reboot the phone, and check the Graphics menu again. Incremental OTA timing, regional builds, game editions and server-side profiles could affect availability.

Only a lower frame-rate choice is shown
The game may not recognize the device profile, selected graphics preset or regional edition as eligible. The original PUBG Mobile app, BGMI and other regional versions should not be treated as interchangeable.

Frame rate drops during play
Use Smooth graphics, close background apps, avoid playing while charging and let the phone cool. A setting being visible does not promise sustained performance.
Third-party unlock tools
Unofficial GFX tools or modified game files are not the same as OnePlus’s promised support. They can cause instability, violate game rules or create security risks, so they should not be used as evidence that the Nord officially supported a mode.
Scope and date caveats
This story concerns the original 2020 OnePlus Nord, not Nord 2, Nord CE, Nord N-series or later Nord models. It also describes PUBG Mobile’s 2020 software and menus. Current PUBG Mobile or BGMI versions may expose different labels and limits, and a later device report cannot establish what the original Nord received in 2020.

Yes: OnePlus officially promised Extreme frame-rate support for the original Nord and contemporary evidence indicates that the option was subsequently enabled through software and game updates. The feature represented 60-FPS-class PUBG Mobile support, not the 90-FPS mode associated with selected OnePlus flagships. Because the 10.5.5, 10.5.6 and 10.5.7 changelogs do not explicitly name PUBG, no single OxygenOS build can be credited with certainty.
