This is a retrospective guide to the ten taxi, ride-hailing and taxi-game entries in a list titled for 2022. The source article was published on November 4, 2023, and said its entries were not in a specific ranking order. The seven transport apps and three games serve different needs, so they are grouped separately below. Availability, names, prices and features can change by country, city and device; the current Google Play status notes reflect checks reported in August 2026.
What this list covers—and what “best” means
“Taxi apps” here includes ride-hailing platforms such as Uber and Lyft, not just services that dispatch licensed taxis. The original list also included three driving games, which do not book real-world rides. Its “Top 10” label was not backed by a disclosed scoring system: the source said the entries were not in a specific order. The recommendations below are therefore use-case judgments, not results of a comparative test.
The list’s original article appeared on November 4, 2023, despite its 2022 title. Its historical download-cost table marked all ten entries free to download, and identified in-app purchases for the games. Those are historical list figures, not current prices or a guide to ride fares. A free ride app can still book a costly trip.

Ride-booking and taxi apps
1. Uber — broad-use ride-hailing, with taxis in selected cities
Uber is a reasonable first app to check when you need an on-demand ride and want several vehicle categories in one place. Its Google Play listing describes options including UberX, UberXL, Comfort, Black and Uber Pet, plus scooters and taxis in select cities. The available categories depend on location; an Uber ride is not necessarily a traditional taxi. See the Uber Google Play listing and Uber’s city availability page.

The app shows an upfront price and estimated arrival information, and supports advance reservations, according to its listing. Treat a displayed amount as the price presented for that booking under the platform’s terms, not a promise that every trip will have no later adjustment or added fee. Driver supply, demand, route changes and local charges can affect the experience. For a time-critical trip, do not rely on a reservation alone as a guarantee of pickup.
Uber’s Google Play data-safety disclosures report collection or sharing of location and other personal or app-activity data. Review the listing and the app’s permissions before signing in, particularly if you do not want location access outside an active ride. The company’s main site is uber.com.
2. Lyft — the key U.S. app to compare with Uber
Lyft is a practical second app for U.S. riders, especially when checking whether another nearby driver or vehicle option is available. Its listing describes standard rides, Wait & Save, Priority Pickup and XL, as well as bikes, scooters, transit and rentals where offered. It displays route and ride cost up front, but says prices vary with market conditions; ride categories and availability are regional. Check the Lyft Google Play listing and Lyft’s site.

For a costly or time-sensitive ride, compare the actual pickup estimate and quoted fare in both apps rather than relying on a general ranking or an old app-store rating.
3. Bolt — an international option where the network operates
Bolt is worth checking in a destination city where it has service. Its listing describes rides, airport transfers, scooters and multiple vehicle categories, along with upfront pricing, driver tracking and safety features. It lists card, Google Pay and cash as payment options, but payment methods and ride types can vary by market. The Bolt Google Play listing and Bolt’s site are the appropriate places to check local coverage.

Bolt should not be treated as a dependable U.S. alternative without checking the exact city. A service’s international profile does not establish availability at a particular airport or address.
4. Cabify — a regional choice, not a universal substitute
Cabify remains listed on Google Play and is more relevant in supported international markets than as a default recommendation for U.S. readers. Its app may offer different vehicle or mobility choices by location, but the original list’s feature descriptions should not be read as a promise that every option is currently offered everywhere. Check the Cabify Google Play listing and Cabify’s site for the destination before depending on it.

The main drawback is geographic fit: being on Google Play does not mean it has a useful driver network where you are traveling.
5. Gett — oriented toward corporate ground travel
Gett’s current Google Play title, Gett – Corporate Ground Travel, signals a more business-oriented product than a general consumer taxi app. The original list highlighted scheduled rides, corporate fleet organization, limo providers, trip tracking and trip history; the current listing’s corporate positioning makes it a better match for business travel arrangements than for finding the broadest casual rideshare network. Check whether the service accepts your kind of account and trip in the relevant market before installing it as a personal fallback. A corporate ground-travel tool is not automatically a general on-demand taxi service.

6. FREE NOW — taxi-focused booking in supported markets
The app is now listed on Google Play as Freenow by Lyft – taxi & more, a substantial change from the name in the original list. It is a taxi-focused option where available, and may suit riders who specifically want to book a taxi rather than choose among rideshare categories. The original article also described pre-booking and micromobility options, but these should be treated as market-dependent rather than universal features. It is a poor default for most U.S. readers unless the service is available in their particular destination city. Older claims about how far ahead a ride could be booked are not a reliable statement of current booking terms.
7. inDrive — the fare-proposal model
The service formerly called inDriver is generally branded inDrive on Google Play. Its distinguishing model lets a rider propose a fare and consider driver responses, rather than relying only on a platform-set quote. That can appeal to riders who want a say in the offer, but a proposed amount does not guarantee savings: drivers may decline, matching may take longer, and local expectations differ. The original list attributed coverage in more than 600 cities across 42 countries to the service; that is a historical claim from that article, not a verified current coverage count. Confirm service in your city in the app rather than relying on that older figure.
Taxi Android games
8. Crazy Taxi Classic — arcade favorite, current listing unverified
Crazy Taxi Classic was the list’s arcade-style entry: its historical description included Arcade and Original modes, three-, five- and ten-minute sessions, 16 mini-games, leaderboards and controller support. Those details describe the entry as presented in the original article, not a confirmed feature set for a currently supported Android release.

The linked Google Play destination returned an internal error in the August 2026 check, so current Android availability, compatibility, price and controller support are unverified. Do not use a third-party APK as a substitute for a confirmed official listing. SEGA’s official site is sega.com, but the evidence here does not establish a working Android download page.
9. Taxi Sim 2020 — its Play link now points to an EVO listing
The original entry described Taxi Sim 2020 as a more realistic driving simulator, with traffic-rule-oriented play, multiple taxis and city settings including New York, Miami, Rome and Los Angeles. Its former Google Play link now resolves to a listing called Taxi Car Simulator : EVO: the current listing destination.
That link change suggests the product listing was renamed, replaced or updated, but it does not by itself prove that Taxi Sim 2020 and Taxi Car Simulator : EVO are identical games. Check the listing’s developer, screenshots, current description, Android compatibility, ads and purchase terms before downloading. Offline play and controller support are not established by the information available here.
10. Taxi Run: Traffic Driver — a simple obstacle-course game
Taxi Run: Traffic Driver remains listed on Google Play. Its premise is to carry passengers while dodging traffic obstacles, making it a better fit for quick arcade runs than a realistic taxi-driving simulation. The original article characterized it as cartoonish and ad-supported; current ad-removal terms and prices should be taken from the live listing rather than copied from an older snapshot. The older list reported that the game was free to download and had a $2.49 in-app purchase signal. That is a historical figure only; it is not a current price. Review the present store page for monetization and content-rating details, especially when choosing a game for a child.

How to choose and book without relying on stale claims
Start with location, not the app’s reputation
Check the pickup and destination cities in the service’s app or official city page before travel. A live Google Play listing confirms that an app exists, not that drivers, taxis, scooters, cash payments or scheduled trips are available in your neighborhood. Regional variation is especially important for Bolt, Cabify, Gett and FREE NOW.
Compare the trip you are actually taking
- Compare the pickup estimate, vehicle type and displayed fare in two available apps when the trip is expensive or time-sensitive. Demand and local fees can change what you see.
- Read cancellation and fare-adjustment terms before confirming; an estimate or displayed quote is not necessarily a guarantee against every fee or trip change.
- For airport trips, early departures or appointments, keep a backup option. A scheduled ride does not guarantee that a driver will arrive exactly as planned.
- For inDrive, allow for the possibility that a driver will not accept your proposed fare. It is a different matching approach, not a promise of the lowest price.
Check privacy and app legitimacy
Ride apps need trip-location information and commonly process account and payment details. Google Play’s data-safety disclosures for Uber and Lyft report collection or sharing of location and other personal or app-activity data; those disclosures are developer-reported and can vary by region and use. Review the current listing, permissions and privacy terms before granting access. Download games and transport apps from Google Play or a verified developer source, not an unofficial APK site.
Do not use ratings as a ride-quality score
Store ratings are time-sensitive and can differ across countries and devices. They describe users’ views of the app and service experience, not a measured local driver supply, pickup reliability or driver quality. The original article’s ratings, download counts, file sizes and purchase prices are historical snapshots and should not be used as current comparisons.
Historical download and purchase figures
The original article’s table marked all ten entries free to download. It reported no in-app purchase signal for the seven ride apps; for the games, it reported Crazy Taxi Classic at $1.99, Taxi Sim 2020 at $1.99–$49.99, and Taxi Run: Traffic Driver at $2.49. These are the original article’s historical figures, not verified current store prices. The figures do not include ride fares, and a free download does not mean a free ride.
