Update: This is an archived deal from October 9, 2024, not a confirmed August 2026 offer. Amazon reportedly sold a specific ASUS ROG Strix G16 configuration for $1,099.99 during Prime Big Deal Days, down from a stated $1,399.99 reference price. Android Headlines attributed the lowest-ever description to CamelCamelCamel data, but that claim applied to the tracked listing—not every 2024 ROG Strix G16 configuration.
What the original deal included
The reported configuration paired an Intel Core i7-13650HX with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, 16GB of DDR5 memory, a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, a 16-inch 165Hz display, Wi-Fi 6E and Windows 11. The promotion was reported on October 9, 2024, during Amazon Prime Big Deal Days.

Read the original historical report at Android Headlines. Its coverage did not expose a complete Amazon model number, seller, condition, warranty status or coupon requirement. Those omissions prevent a definitive SKU-level comparison today.

The wording should be read narrowly: the specific RTX 4060 listing was reportedly at its lowest observed Amazon price at that time, with a previous tracked low of $1,164.99 according to CamelCamelCamel. It does not prove that every ROG Strix G16 (2024) was at a record price, that every retailer matched it, or that another G16 variation was not cheaper.

ASUS uses the G614 name for a broad family. The official US specification page lists different processors, RTX 4060, RTX 4070 and RTX 4080 graphics options, and multiple displays. A lower price on a different model does not disprove the original tracked-listing claim, but it makes the unqualified headline “the ROG Strix G16 is at its lowest-ever price” misleading.
What performance tier does the RTX 4060 model occupy?
The RTX 4060 configuration remains a capable 1080p gaming laptop and can handle many games at higher resolutions when settings are adjusted. It is not a current high-end system in 2026. ASUS lists the laptop RTX 4060 with 8GB of GDDR6 memory and up to a 140W ROG Boost configuration on applicable models, along with Advanced Optimus and MUX support on relevant configurations.

Do not infer performance from the chassis name alone. Power limits, thermal mode, drivers, game settings, resolution and whether the machine is plugged in all affect results, so exact frame-rate promises would be unjustified without a test of the precise unit.

The deal report established a 165Hz panel, but not its resolution, response time or color coverage. ASUS lists both 1920×1200 165Hz panels and 2560×1600 240Hz panels across the G614 family. The historical deal should not be treated as including the premium QHD+ Nebula display unless the listing’s model number confirms it.

Memory and storage upgrade considerations
16GB of RAM
Sixteen gigabytes is usable for general gaming and esports. Thirty-two gigabytes is a better target for newer AAA games, mods, streaming, browser-heavy multitasking and content creation. ASUS shows two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots and up to 32GB on the US configurations displayed, while noting that specifications vary by model and market. Check whether the deal unit uses one or two modules before planning an upgrade.
1TB SSD
A 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive is a sensible starting point, but large game installs can consume it quickly. ASUS lists two M.2 PCIe slots and notes that only single-sided SSDs are supported near the motherboard’s M.2 slot. Before opening the chassis, verify the exact slot layout, supported drive format, mounting hardware and any applicable local warranty terms.

Listed US G614 specifications include Thunderbolt 4, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, USB-C with DisplayPort, power delivery and G-SYNC support, HDMI 2.1 FRL, RJ45 Ethernet and a 3.5mm combo jack. Wireless connectivity is Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. ASUS lists a 90Wh battery and approximately 2.50kg (5.51lb) chassis weight before the 280W power adapter.

The chassis uses full-surround vents, tri-fan cooling and a full-width heatsink, according to the original deal report. Those features describe the design, not a guarantee of low noise or surface temperatures; results vary with firmware, fan profile, room temperature and workload.
Xbox Game Pass: treat it as a conditional bonus
The 2024 promotion was reported to include 90 days of Xbox Game Pass. ASUS’s specification page lists three months of PC Game Pass for eligible configurations, with terms and market exclusions. Redemption must occur within 180 days of activating Windows, and systems not activated within two years of manufacture may be ineligible. Used, refurbished, old-stock or previously activated machines may not qualify. Confirm eligibility at checkout rather than assigning the subscription cash value to every unit.
Checklist before buying a similar listing
- Confirm the complete model number after selecting the actual Amazon variation.
- Verify the GPU is an RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, not an RTX 4050 or another tier.
- Check the processor, memory capacity and SSD capacity against the advertised configuration.
- Confirm display resolution as well as the 165Hz refresh rate.
- Check whether the unit is new, open-box or refurbished.
- Identify the seller, return window and ASUS warranty coverage for the US listing.
- Confirm that the original charger and other accessories are included.
- Check Game Pass eligibility separately; an old unit may not receive the offer.
- Review the final checkout total, including tax, shipping, coupons, financing requirements or membership conditions.
Should you buy, wait or skip?
Buy when
- The exact RTX 4060, i7-13650HX, 16GB, 1TB configuration is new, fully warrantied and priced at or below the historical $1,099.99.
- You want a 16-inch high-refresh gaming system and accept its size and adapter weight.
- You are comfortable upgrading memory or storage later if required.
Be cautious when
- The listing hides the model number or changes price when another variation is selected.
- The price depends on a coupon, financing offer, membership or payment method.
- A marketplace seller, open-box condition, missing charger or unclear warranty explains the discount.
- The price is close to a newer-generation laptop.
Skip when
- The listing substitutes a weaker GPU, smaller SSD or materially inferior display.
- The machine is sold as-is without a practical return option.
- The historical $1,099.99 figure is presented as currently available without a live retailer confirmation.
- You need long unplugged battery life or a lightweight travel computer.
Alternatives worth comparing
Compare a newer ASUS ROG Strix G16 generation when its GPU, display and warranty justify a modest premium. ASUS TUF Gaming F16 and Acer Nitro V models can target lower budgets, usually with compromises that depend on the exact SKU. RTX 4070-class or newer-generation laptops become more compelling when discounted near the old $1,099.99 level. If portability is irrelevant, a desktop gaming PC generally offers a different performance-per-dollar trade-off, but it is not a like-for-like replacement.
Bottom line
The deal was real as a historical report: $1,099.99 for a specified RTX 4060 G16 configuration on October 9, 2024, reportedly the lowest Amazon price then tracked for that listing. It is not evidence of a current August 2026 price. Buy a comparable unit today only after matching the SKU, panel, condition, seller, warranty and final checkout total; otherwise, treat the old headline as an archive rather than a live recommendation.
