Yes. PlayStation Portal can take screenshots and record video clips during supported Cloud Streaming sessions. Sony added the capability in Portal system software version 5.0.0, announced on April 9, 2025—not as a new August 2026 feature. Captures upload to Sony’s cloud service and remain available in the PlayStation App for 14 days.
What Portal cloud capture actually adds
During an eligible Cloud Streaming session, Portal supports two basic capture types:
- Screenshots taken with the Create button.
- Video clips started and stopped with the Create button.
Sony describes this as “gameplay captures” in its Portal system software notes; the April 9, 2025 PlayStation Blog announcement specifies screenshots and video clips. Sony has not documented that Portal Cloud Streaming includes every option found in the PS5’s Create menu, such as the full range of recording-length, resolution, format, microphone, or voice-chat controls.

How to capture a cloud-streamed game
- Install the latest Portal system software.
- From the Portal Home screen, select the Cloud Streaming tab in the options at the top left.
- Choose a supported title from Cloud Streaming with PlayStation Plus Premium, Streaming Games in PlayStation Plus, or an eligible digital PS5 game in your library.
- Select Stream and wait for the game session to begin.
- Press and hold the Create button to take a screenshot.
- Press the Create button twice to start recording a video clip. Press it twice again to finish the recording.
The controls come from Sony’s announcement and apply to Cloud Streaming. Do not assume that the same shortcuts or limitations behave identically in ordinary Remote Play.

Where the files go—and the 14-day limit
Portal does not present this workflow as a conventional local Media Gallery or removable-storage process. Captures made while cloud streaming are automatically uploaded to Sony’s cloud service. In the PlayStation App, open Library > Captures to view, download, or share them. Sony says they remain available for 14 days after creation, so download anything you want to keep before it expires.
What you need before trying it
- A PlayStation Portal signed in to a PlayStation account and running current software.
- An active PlayStation Plus Premium membership.
- An adult account; Sony does not allow child accounts to use Cloud Streaming on Portal.
- A supported country or region. Availability is not worldwide and can exclude overseas territories.
- An eligible PS5 game. Not every title in a PlayStation account or catalog is streamable; eligibility varies by game, entitlement, region, and service.
- A broadband connection that meets Sony’s published minimums.

These figures are streaming thresholds, not a guarantee of smooth play or instant upload. Sony says stream resolution adjusts automatically to internet quality, and congestion, latency, or unstable Wi-Fi can still affect the session and how quickly a capture appears in the app. Check Sony’s Cloud Streaming support page for current regional and game-eligibility details.

Cloud Streaming is different from Remote Play

Cloud Streaming lets Portal launch supported games without connecting to a running PS5. Remote Play instead displays a game being executed on your console. The capture feature described here is specifically documented for Cloud Streaming, so reports about one mode should not be treated as proof about the other.
What still does not work during Portal Cloud Streaming
Capture support is not the same as full broadcasting or social-feature support. Sony lists these functions as unavailable while streaming games on Portal:

Portal Cloud Streaming is also centered on eligible PS5 games. Sony’s current support documentation does not make PS3 or PS4 cloud games part of this Portal experience. A purchased game is not automatically eligible merely because it appears in your library; Sony supports select digital PS5 titles, with availability varying by country and region.

The Create button does nothing
- Confirm the Portal is updated to current system software.
- Verify that you are inside a Cloud Streaming session, not at the Home screen or in another Portal mode.
- Check that PlayStation Plus Premium is active and the account is an adult account.
- Confirm the game is eligible in your country or region.
Sony specifically advises updating Portal software when Cloud Streaming is unavailable or fails to launch.

A capture is missing from the PlayStation App
Captures are uploaded rather than guaranteed to appear instantly. Make sure the app is signed in to the same PlayStation account, open Library > Captures, and allow time for the upload. If the item is more than 14 days old, Sony’s stated retention period may have elapsed.

Review the title’s eligibility, your country or region, the digital PS5 edition you own, and your Premium entitlement. A catalog game, disc ownership, or another version of a title may not qualify for Portal Cloud Streaming.

You expected live streaming
Use the Create shortcuts for saved screenshots and clips only. Sony’s support page lists broadcasting, Share Screen, and Share Play as unavailable in this mode.
How this compares with PS5 capture
Sony’s PS5 capture guide documents a broader console workflow: screenshots, recent-gameplay saves from 15 seconds to one hour, recordings up to one hour, and settings for resolution, format, microphone audio, and voice-chat audio. Portal Cloud Streaming documentation confirms screenshots and video clips, but does not establish that all of those PS5 controls or recording lengths are available on Portal. Treat the Portal feature as basic capture for a streamed session, not as a replacement for a full PS5 recording setup.
Is Portal cloud capture useful?
It is useful when you want to save a moment from a supported cloud-played PS5 game without owning, turning on, or taking over a PS5. The trade-off is a cloud-mediated workflow: you need Premium, a supported title and region, a reliable connection, and the PlayStation App—and you must retrieve important media within 14 days. It makes Portal a more capable cloud-gaming client, but not a standalone handheld with local game installs, permanent local capture storage, or built-in broadcasting.
Bottom line: PlayStation Portal Cloud Streaming has supported screenshots and video clips since system software 5.0.0 in April 2025. Hold Create for a screenshot, double-press it to start or stop a clip, then retrieve the upload in PlayStation App > Library > Captures before the 14-day window closes.
