Sony ended the beta and launched Portal Cloud Streaming on November 5, 2025, in the United States and other supported markets. The service is limited to eligible titles, adult accounts, supported regions, a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription and a reliable broadband connection—it is not unrestricted access to every PS5 game.
Sony’s launch announcement explains the service and its support for selected digital PS5 games that owners bought from PlayStation Store.

What changed on PlayStation Portal
Portal launched in November 2023 primarily as a Remote Play screen for a user’s own PS5. Sony announced a beta on November 19, 2024, initially covering selected PS5 games in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. The official launch on November 5, 2025 expanded the service to selected digital PS5 games in a subscriber’s library and ended the beta.
As of August 2026, Cloud Streaming is a live feature, but eligibility still depends on the game, account, region, subscription and network. Sony can change the supported list over time.

Cloud Streaming and Remote Play are different

Cloud Streaming runs the game remotely, so the console can be switched off or used by another account. Remote Play still needs a paired PS5 that is available to stream. Neither mode installs games locally on Portal.
What you need
- A PlayStation Portal with current system software.
- An adult PlayStation Network account. Sony does not support Cloud Streaming for child accounts.
- An active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. Essential and Extra do not unlock Portal Cloud Streaming.
- A country or region where Sony supports the service.
- Broadband Wi-Fi. Sony lists 5 Mbps to start a session, 7 Mbps for 720p and 13 Mbps for 1080p as minimum thresholds. Sony’s broader PlayStation Plus guidance describes 15 Mbps as recommended for a better 1080p experience.
- An eligible game.
These bandwidth figures are technical minimums, not promises of low latency or consistent picture quality. Wi-Fi interference, congestion, router placement, latency and distance from Sony’s servers can matter more than a speed-test result.
Which games can Portal stream?
PlayStation Plus catalog games
Premium members can stream selected PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and selected titles in the Classics Catalog. Catalog membership is not permanent: a game can leave the catalog, and not every catalog title is available through Portal.
Digital PS5 games you purchased
Sony also supports selected digital PS5 games purchased through PlayStation Store. Ownership alone is not enough. The title must be on Sony’s current cloud-eligible list, and eligibility can vary by region and change over time. A physical disc does not create a cloud-streaming entitlement, and owning a PS4 version does not guarantee access to a PS5 cloud version.
Examples and the live list
Sony’s launch examples included Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V and Resident Evil 4. Catalog examples included Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, Sword of the Sea and The Last of Us Part II Remastered. Treat these as examples, not a permanent catalog. Check Sony’s live US cloud-streaming category before buying a game or subscription.

How to start a cloud game
- Install the latest Portal system software and sign in with an adult PlayStation account.
- Buy or activate PlayStation Plus Premium on the PlayStation website, PlayStation App or a PS5. Portal cannot purchase or manage the subscription.
- Connect Portal to broadband Wi-Fi.
- Open the Cloud Streaming tab on the home screen.
- Use Search or browse the available games, then select an eligible title and start streaming.
The current home screen has Remote Play, Cloud Streaming and Search tabs. Use the L1 and R1 buttons to switch between them. Search can identify titles that support Cloud Streaming.
PlayStation Plus Premium cost
In the United States, Sony listed these Premium prices on August 18, 2026:

These are recurring subscription prices and can change. Premium also includes the Game Catalog, Classics Catalog, game trials, online multiplayer, cloud storage and monthly games. See Sony’s US pricing page and membership details before subscribing.
Where it is available
Sony supports Portal Cloud Streaming in the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom and numerous European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Portugal and Ireland. Availability is not worldwide; check Sony’s country and requirement page for your account region.

The Cloud Streaming tab is missing
- Confirm that the account is an adult account.
- Verify that the account region supports the service.
- Check that Premium, not Essential or Extra, is active.
- Update Portal software and reconnect to broadband Wi-Fi.
- Sign out and confirm that Portal uses the account with the Premium entitlement.
In an unsupported country or with a child account, Sony says Portal shows only the Remote Play home screen.

A purchased game does not appear
The title may not be cloud eligible, may be available only in another region, may have left the catalog, or may be owned on a different account. Confirm that you purchased the digital PS5 version from PlayStation Store and check Sony’s current list. A disc purchase is not a cloud license.
The stream looks poor or feels delayed
Test the connection close to the router, reduce competing traffic, prefer a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi signal where available, and avoid congested public or hotel networks. Meeting 13 Mbps does not remove latency; fast competitive games are less forgiving than turn-based or slower games.
Is Portal Cloud Streaming worth it?
A good fit
- Portal owners who want to play while their PS5 is occupied or switched off.
- People who already value Premium’s catalog, trials, cloud storage and multiplayer benefits.
- Players with stable, low-latency Wi-Fi who want to avoid downloads and PS5 storage use.
- People without a PS5 who are satisfied with Sony’s eligible-game list.
A poor fit
- Players expecting every PS5 game or their entire digital library to work.
- Competitive players whose priority is the lowest possible input latency.
- Families that need child accounts.
- Anyone unwilling to pay the recurring Premium price.
- Buyers seeking local installation, offline play or a standalone PS5 handheld.
Portal hardware is sold through Sony’s official store, and its capabilities are described on the product page. Hardware pricing and promotions can change.
The Bottom Line
PlayStation Portal’s PS5 Cloud Streaming is already available, but it is a Premium-only streaming service for selected games—not a portable PS5. Check the live eligibility list, your region and your network before paying for Portal or Premium.
