The listed Logitech prices are US snapshots observed August 16, 2026, not guaranteed current prices. A camera’s advertised PC resolution or frame rate does not establish that Xbox will recognize it or use that mode.
What makes a webcam a sensible direct-to-Xbox choice?

Logitech describes PC streaming use; its product page does not formally guarantee Xbox Series S compatibility. User reports are mixed, including reports of failure and color problems. Treat the C922 as the first serious candidate to test, not a confirmed console accessory.
Logitech C920S: a budget trial
The C920S offers 1080p video and a physical privacy shutter. Its lower price can make it a more comfortable experiment if you are unsure whether you will keep streaming, but the C920 family also has mixed Xbox reports and no formal Series S compatibility confirmation in the cited official material. Razer Kiyo X: an alternative, not a compatibility upgrade
Razer lists the Kiyo X with autofocus, 1080p30 and 720p60 modes, plus computer software customization. Those features may suit a PC webcam buyer, but the official Kiyo X page does not establish direct Xbox compatibility. A camera’s computer settings may also be unavailable when it is connected to a console.

The original Kiyo’s integrated ring light can be useful in a dim room, although built-in lighting cannot fix an unsupported camera format, and a small ring light may create harsh reflections. Newer Kiyo V2 models are more clearly PC-oriented: Razer’s US store listed the Kiyo V2 at $149.99 and Kiyo V2 X at $99.99 when observed. Why 4K usually is not worth paying for on a native Xbox stream
Elgato describes Xbox Series X|S built-in Twitch streaming as reaching up to 1080p at 30 fps. That makes a 4K webcam a poor value if its only job is to appear in a native console broadcast: the higher capture resolution does not automatically raise the stream’s output quality. Resolution is only part of image quality. In a fixed seated setup, a soft light placed slightly above eye level and in front of you can matter more than moving from a basic 1080p webcam to a 4K model. Avoid sitting with a bright window behind you; backlighting can leave your face dark. Autofocus is useful if you move around, but for a steady position it is less important than lighting and framing.
How to connect and test a webcam on Xbox Series S
Dashboard and broadcasting-app labels can change, so use the current on-screen wording rather than relying on an old menu path. Xbox also maintains a USB port support page.
- Install offered Xbox system and Twitch or broadcasting-app updates.
- Connect the webcam directly to a USB port on the Series S. For the first test, leave out hubs, extension adapters, and other devices.
- Open the Xbox broadcasting workflow and check whether the camera preview appears.
- Use the broadcast controls to enable the camera, if it is detected.
- Run a private or otherwise low-stakes test stream, then view it on another device to check framing, color, exposure, and synchronization.
- Test audio separately: confirm whether the webcam microphone is available, whether your headset mic is being used, and whether game audio and party chat are present as intended.
Do not assume that a working camera also supplies the stream’s microphone. Webcam mic selection, party chat, and synchronization can vary by configuration; a headset connected to the controller or console is the safer voice-audio choice for native broadcasting.

If Xbox does not detect the camera
Work through simple causes before deciding the webcam is unusable:
- Unplug and reconnect the camera, then try another Xbox USB port.
- Remove any hub or adapter and restart the console fully rather than relying only on standby or resume.
- Confirm the webcam itself works on a PC. Check whether basic video requires a manufacturer driver or configuration utility.
- Make sure the camera is enabled in the broadcast controls. If possible, try a standard mode such as 1080p30 or 720p30 rather than a high-resolution or unusual mode.
- Test with the webcam microphone disabled and a headset in use; this helps distinguish a video-detection problem from an audio-routing issue.
- If the camera is detected but looks washed out, oversaturated, or too dark, improve the room lighting. The console may not expose the camera’s usual PC controls for exposure, color, or white balance.
- If it still fails, the issue may involve the camera, broadcast-app state, account, or dashboard version. Use the seller’s return policy and consider a simpler webcam instead.
When to use a PC and capture card instead
Native Xbox streaming is the simpler, lower-cost route: no capture card or PC is needed, but camera controls and production options are limited, and direct webcam compatibility is uncertain. It suits a streamer who mainly wants gameplay and a face camera without building a production setup.
A PC-and-capture-card setup makes sense if you want OBS or comparable software, more control over scenes, overlays, alerts, audio routing, recording, and camera adjustments—or if you want to use a premium webcam that will not connect directly to Xbox. The basic arrangement is:

- Connect the Xbox Series S to a capture card.
- Feed the capture card’s signal to a PC.
- Connect the webcam to the PC, not the Xbox.
- Build and run the stream in OBS, Streamlabs, or another computer application.
Elgato says its current capture devices support capturing Xbox Series X|S gameplay; see its Xbox Series X|S compatibility guidance. In this arrangement, Elgato Facecam models become possible PC-camera choices even though Elgato lists them as incompatible with a direct Series S connection.
Buying rule
For native Xbox streaming, spend as little as practical on a returnable, standard USB webcam and put remaining budget toward a soft light or dependable headset audio. Try the C922 first if you want a more capable mainstream camera, or the C920S if a lower-cost trial matters more. Choose premium 4K or software-heavy cameras only when a PC is part of the plan; do not buy an Elgato Facecam for direct connection to the Series S.
