What Microsoft changed
Microsoft added mobile game purchasing and Game Pass sign-up to the Xbox mobile app in April 2025. On December 16, 2025, it described a dedicated Store tab for buying games, add-ons and Game Pass, plus wishlist support and add-on search. See the Xbox Wire announcement.
The feature is not a Samsung-only marketplace. Microsoft’s Xbox mobile page presents shopping as part of the Xbox app experience on supported mobile devices, including Android phones and tablets.
What you can buy
- Xbox console games and editions
- PC games sold through Microsoft’s ecosystem
- Downloadable add-ons and other Store content
- Xbox Game Pass plans, where available
These are Microsoft/Xbox account entitlements, not games purchased for installation from the Galaxy Store. Check the platform, edition, region and included benefits on the listing before paying.

How to buy from a Galaxy phone or tablet
- Install or update the official Xbox mobile app.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns your Xbox or PC library.
- Open the Store tab or the app’s shopping area. Labels can vary by app version and region.
- Choose a game, add-on or Game Pass plan.
- Review the platform, edition, price, region and entitlement details.
- Complete checkout using an available Microsoft account payment method.
- Confirm whether the product is intended for Xbox, PC, cloud streaming, remote play or a combination.
A console purchase can then be installed on an eligible Xbox console. A PC purchase depends on the title’s Windows licensing and platform requirements. The app can also support remote installation management for an Xbox linked to the account.
Does buying an Xbox game let you play it on a Galaxy device?
Only in specific cases. Buying a game does not create a native Android version or install a console game as an APK. Use this decision guide:

Microsoft says select games that you own or buy can be streamed from the cloud even when they are not included in Game Pass. Availability still varies by title, plan, platform, region and time; consult the Xbox Cloud Gaming page.

Remote play is a stream from your console to the phone or tablet; it is not the same service as cloud gaming. Microsoft outlines both options on its mobile gaming page.

Requirements for Galaxy cloud play
- Android: Microsoft lists Android 12 or later at the platform level, subject to supported devices and regions.
- Account and entitlement: A Microsoft account is required. Most cloud gaming requires an eligible Game Pass plan; select free-to-play cloud games can be available with a free account in supported regions.
- Connection: Microsoft cites 10 Mbps as a mobile minimum in its cloud-gaming information, while its mobile guidance recommends 20 Mbps or more for some devices and best results. A 5GHz Wi-Fi connection is recommended.
- Controls: Use a compatible Bluetooth or USB controller. Touch controls exist only in supported games.
- Availability: Device, game, plan, region and browser/app support can differ.
Bandwidth does not guarantee smooth play. Latency, congestion, Wi-Fi interference and controller connectivity can matter as much as download speed.
Xbox app, Game Pass app and Galaxy Store: what is the difference?
The current purchasing feature belongs to the general Xbox mobile app, which combines community features, account and library management, shopping and console functions. Samsung’s older support instructions refer to the Xbox Game Pass app for browsing and streaming. Samsung says Galaxy users can search for that app in either the Galaxy Store or Google Play, sign in, choose a game and tap PLAY; its documented setup is at Samsung Support.
Those distribution channels do not make Xbox a competing store for native Android games. The Galaxy Store can provide the app itself; the Xbox Store purchase remains tied to the Microsoft account and its Xbox, PC and cloud licenses.
Buy a game or subscribe to Game Pass?
Buying is better when
- You want an account license rather than access that depends on a subscription catalog.
- You already play on Xbox or PC and want the entitlement attached to your Microsoft account.
- The title is cloud-playable and you expect to keep using it after a subscription ends.
Game Pass is better when
- You want a broad rotating catalog and cloud access where your plan supports it.
- You play enough games that individual purchases would cost more.
- You accept that catalog membership, plan benefits and availability can change.
Game Pass access is not the same as permanent ownership. Microsoft says catalog availability varies by title, region, plan, platform and time.

Common problems and fixes
The game was purchased but has no Play button
The title may not support cloud streaming, your plan may not include the required access, or the game may be unavailable in your region. Verify the game’s cloud designation and entitlement instead of assuming every Xbox purchase is mobile-playable.
The Store tab is missing
Update the general Xbox app, check account and regional availability, and make sure you are not looking at the older Game Pass app. Microsoft’s interface can change by version.
The app cannot be found
Check both Google Play and Galaxy Store, confirm Android version and region, and use Xbox Cloud Gaming in a supported browser when appropriate.
Streaming quality is poor
Move to 5GHz Wi-Fi, reduce network congestion, test latency and reconnect the controller. A faster connection cannot remove every source of delay.

You expected an Android download
Xbox console games generally stream or use remote play on Android. Only a separately published Android edition can be installed locally.
Recurring billing continues
Subscriptions normally use recurring billing unless you cancel before the next billing date. Review the Microsoft account subscription settings after checkout.

The practical benefit is convenience: users can discover a game, manage a wishlist, buy an add-on or change Game Pass access without opening a console or PC. It also gives Microsoft a direct commerce surface on mobile and fits its broader play-across-devices strategy.
Some coverage links the Android rollout to changes in mobile billing rules, but that explanation is context rather than a confirmed Microsoft motive. The documented feature itself is the Store and account integration described by Microsoft.

What Galaxy owners should check before paying
- Is the listing for Xbox console, PC, Play Anywhere, an add-on or a specific edition?
- Is the title marked as cloud-playable in your region and plan?
- Do you own an Xbox console if you intend to use remote play?
- Do you have Android 12 or later, a reliable 5GHz connection and a compatible controller?
- Are taxes, currency, promotional terms and recurring billing clear at checkout?
For most Galaxy owners, the Xbox app is best understood as a mobile storefront and account-management tool with access to streaming options—not as a new Android Xbox game store.
