1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsNW-102307-3 means the PS5 encountered a communication error while connecting to PlayStation. It is not proof of a DNS failure or faulty console. Check PlayStation Network status, restart the PS5, run its connection test, and compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet before changing advanced settings.
Quick-fix checklist
- Check the live PlayStation Network status page.
- Turn off the PS5 completely, then restart it.
- Open Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection.
- Power off the modem and router for at least five minutes, then restart them.
- Try an Ethernet cable if one is available.
- If you stay on Wi-Fi, move the console closer to the router and remove obstructions.
What NW-102307-3 means
Sony describes NW-102307-3 as “a communication error” while connecting to PlayStation. The code does not identify one cause. A PS5 can show an internet connection yet fail to sign in to PSN, and other devices may still browse normally. Possible sources include PSN maintenance, wireless interference, router settings, ISP restrictions, DNS or IP configuration, and a temporary communication failure.
Changing DNS is therefore not a guaranteed solution, and the error alone does not establish that the console hardware is defective.
1. Check whether PSN is having an outage
Open Sony’s live service-status page before changing network settings. It separates account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Store, PlayStation Video, and PlayStation Direct.

- If all services are shown as running, continue with local troubleshooting. The page is a point-in-time check and may not reflect every regional or account-specific problem.
2. Restart the PS5 and test each connection stage
Perform a normal restart
- Press the PS button.
- Open the power menu and choose Turn Off PS5.
- Wait until the console is fully off, then turn it on again.
Sony lists a normal restart as an initial remedy; Safe Mode and resets are not appropriate first steps for this code.
Run the built-in test
Go to Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. Sony documents this path in its PS5 connection-test guidance.
- Obtain IP Address: whether the router assigned the PS5 a local address.
- Internet Connection: whether the console can reach the internet.
- PlayStation Network Sign-In: whether it can reach and authenticate with PSN.
- NAT Type: context for multiplayer and router restrictions, not a complete diagnosis by itself.
- Connection speed: useful context, but speed alone does not prove stability.
3. Use Ethernet as a diagnostic test
Sony recommends a wired connection where possible. Connect a LAN cable from the router or gateway to the PS5, then open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection > Set Up Wired LAN > Connect. Run the connection test again. This menu path is confirmed in Sony’s internet-connection guide.

- Ethernet works but Wi-Fi fails: investigate signal strength, interference, distance, Wi-Fi band, or router wireless settings.
- Both fail: investigate PSN status, router or ISP restrictions, IP/DNS configuration, and software.
Ethernet is a comparison test; you do not have to use it permanently.
4. Improve a Wi-Fi connection
Temporarily move the PS5 closer to the router, keep it out of a closed cabinet, and remove large obstructions. If the router exposes separate networks, test each available Wi-Fi band. Pause large downloads or streaming on the same network, then reconnect through Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection. Sony’s setup guide explains selecting saved or available Wi-Fi networks and configuring them manually.
5. Power-cycle the modem and router
- Turn off the PS5.
- Power off the modem and router; unplug them only as permitted by their manufacturer.
- Wait at least five minutes.
- Start the modem first and wait for it to reconnect to the ISP.
- Start the separate router, if present, and wait for Wi-Fi or LAN service.
- Restart the PS5 and test again.
Do not press the router’s factory-reset button. A factory reset can erase Wi-Fi names, passwords, port rules, parental controls, and other configuration.

- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
6. Reconfigure the PS5 network
Open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection, select the saved Wi-Fi network or wired connection, re-enter the Wi-Fi password if requested, and choose the default or easy configuration first. Test the connection afterward. If you previously entered manual IP, DNS, MTU, or proxy values, return them to automatic unless your ISP or network administrator supplied specific values.
PS5 advanced settings include IP address, DHCP host name, DNS, MTU, proxy, and (on supported PS5 models with compatible routers) Multi-Link Operation. Sony explains these options in its connection guide.

DNS: a targeted experiment, not a universal fix
DNS translates domain names into IP addresses. A manual DNS setting can sometimes help when the ISP’s DNS service is unreliable, but it cannot repair a PSN outage, weak Wi-Fi, damaged hardware, or incorrect router rules. Record the original values, change DNS only after the basic tests, and avoid treating any public DNS pair as an official Sony fix for NW-102307-3. Availability, privacy policies, and performance vary by location.

Static IP or DHCP reservation
Sony suggests trying a manually configured static IP from Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection. Do not copy random IP numbers from a video or forum. The address, gateway, subnet mask, and DNS must match your network, and an address already used by another device creates conflicts.
- Log in to the router.
- Find the PS5 in the connected-device list.
- Create a DHCP reservation for its MAC address, if the router supports reservations.
- Reconnect the PS5 and test.
Use manual PS5 values only when necessary. Ask the ISP, router manufacturer, or network administrator if you are unsure.
IPv4 and IPv6
Sony states that PS5 supports IPv6 but not an IPv6-only network. If a new router or ISP gateway is set to IPv6-only, change it to provide IPv4 as well, using the manufacturer’s or ISP’s instructions.

Firmware, filtering, and managed networks
Update the router firmware and ask the ISP or network administrator whether port filtering is blocking PSN traffic. Router labels differ by model. Parental controls, guest-network client isolation, VPNs, corporate firewalls, and managed school, hotel, workplace, apartment, or public networks can also interfere. Captive portals may require browser sign-in that a console cannot complete normally. Do not disable the entire firewall or open ports blindly; Sony’s NW-102307-3 page does not provide a universal port list. A related Sony page, NW-102650-4 guidance, contains port information for that different error.

8. Update software without risking your data
Check Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software. An outdated system is not the assumed cause of every NW-102307-3 occurrence, but updating removes a possible compatibility issue. Sony’s system-software support page also documents Safe Mode and USB update procedures.
Use Safe Mode only for related system problems
Safe Mode is for broader startup, storage, update, or system-feature issues—not the normal first-line fix for this network code.
- Turn off the PS5 by holding the power button for three seconds.
- Hold the power button again and release it after the second beep, about seven seconds after the first.
- Connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.
Useful non-destructive options can include Update System Software, Clear Cache and Rebuild Database, or Repair Console Storage when those symptoms exist. Do not choose Reset PS5 or Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) merely for NW-102307-3: Sony warns that reset and reinstall options can delete data. See the Safe Mode instructions before proceeding.
