Yes—GeForce NOW works directly on select LG and Samsung TVs, as well as NVIDIA SHIELD TV, supported Android TV and Chromecast devices, and specific Amazon Fire TV Stick models. If your TV is not supported, you can connect a compatible streaming device or computer by HDMI. TV gameplay requires a compatible gamepad, and the games you play must be supported by GeForce NOW and available through a store or subscription you can access. Device compatibility below reflects NVIDIA’s listed support as of August 18, 2026.
What you need to play GeForce NOW on a TV
- A TV with the official GeForce NOW app, or a supported streaming device connected to an HDMI input.
- A stable internet connection. NVIDIA recommends wired Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center.
- A GeForce NOW account and access to a supported game.
- A compatible gamepad. NVIDIA says a supported controller is required to play games on TVs; keyboard and mouse can help navigate the app but are not a substitute for TV gameplay.
GeForce NOW runs supported games on NVIDIA cloud hardware and streams the video to your screen. It is not a subscription that automatically gives you every PC game. You generally link a supported store or service, such as Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, or PC Game Pass, and play eligible titles you own or can access there. A game must be in the supported catalog or available through a supported cloud-install option. NVIDIA advertises more than 4,500 PC games, but the catalog changes; check the GeForce NOW game and service page before buying a game for TV play.
Which TVs and streaming devices are supported?
NVIDIA’s system requirements list model years and device generations, not blanket support for every product made by a brand. Availability can also depend on the exact model, region, firmware, and app-store listing.
| Platform | NVIDIA-listed support | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| LG TVs | Select 2020–2025 TVs with current webOS firmware and updated TV-browser software | Not every model from those years is necessarily supported. The requirements page does not establish universal support for 2026 models. |
| Samsung TVs | Select 2020–2025 TVs | Check the exact model, region, software, and app-store availability. |
| NVIDIA SHIELD TV | Supported | Ultimate is required for 4K and HDR on SHIELD TV. |
| Android TV and Chromecast | Android 7.0 or later, at least 1 GB available memory, and OpenGL ES 2.0 or higher | NVIDIA lists requirements up to 1080p/60 fps for this category; its current page does not list the same 4K support as for SHIELD TV or Smart TVs. |
| Amazon Fire TV Stick | Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (1st gen), Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st or 2nd gen), and Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd gen), with the required Fire OS version | Not every Fire TV device is listed. See the exact generations and OS versions below. |
| Other TV | Use an officially supported HDMI streaming device or a computer connected to the TV | The TV itself does not need to run the app, but the connected device does need to be supported. |
Check the exact TV or Fire TV model
For an LG or Samsung TV, search for “GeForce NOW” in the TV’s app store and install available TV software updates. A supported model year alone does not guarantee that a particular model has the app. For Fire TV, NVIDIA lists these combinations:

- Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, first generation: Fire OS 8.1.6.0 or later.
- Fire TV Stick 4K Max, second generation: Fire OS 8.1.6.0 or later.
- Fire TV Stick 4K Max, first generation: Fire OS 7.7.1.1 or later.
- Fire TV Stick 4K, second generation: Fire OS 8.1.6.0 or later.
Do not assume that another Fire TV model is compatible just because it runs Fire OS. Likewise, avoid treating an arbitrary Android TV box as supported: sideloading an app onto an uncertified device is not NVIDIA’s official installation path and may not work reliably.
How to install GeForce NOW on a supported smart TV
- Connect the TV to the internet and install available TV firmware and app-store updates.
- Open the TV’s app store and search for GeForce NOW.
- Install the official NVIDIA app, then open it.
- Sign in to an existing account or create one.
- Pair a supported controller with the TV before starting a game.
- Link the relevant game-store accounts when prompted.
- Choose a supported game and launch it. If it is missing, check the game catalog and confirm that you have access to the correct PC version or subscription.
Menu names and sign-in steps can vary by brand, region, firmware, and app version. NVIDIA’s download page lists the service’s supported platform categories and directs users to current requirements.
How to use GeForce NOW through an HDMI device
For a TV without the native app, the streaming device runs GeForce NOW; the TV acts as its display. The controller usually pairs with the streaming device, although the available pairing method depends on the device.
- Connect a supported SHIELD TV, listed Fire TV Stick, or compatible Android TV/Chromecast device to an HDMI input.
- Switch the TV to that HDMI input.
- Connect the streaming device to Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
- Install GeForce NOW from the device’s official app store.
- Sign in, pair a supported controller, and launch a game.
Choose a device based on both compatibility and the resolution you want. SHIELD TV is the listed option for 4K/60 streaming with Ultimate; supported Smart TVs have their own 4K requirements. NVIDIA’s Android TV/Chromecast figures extend to 1080p/60, while the listed Fire TV devices have 720p/60 and 1080p/60 bandwidth requirements. If you already own a supported device, try it before buying another. A computer connected to HDMI is another option when you need keyboard-and-mouse support or broader app flexibility.
Which controller works, and is one required?
Yes, plan on using a gamepad: NVIDIA requires a supported controller for TV gameplay. Its listed options include NVIDIA SHIELD controllers, Microsoft Xbox controllers, Sony PS5 DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers; NVIDIA also lists the Amazon Luna controller for Fire TV. Other controllers may work but can require firmware updates, drivers, or other software. Pair the controller with the TV or streaming device before launching the game.

If a controller is detected by the device but not by the game, update its firmware, disconnect and reconnect Bluetooth, restart the GeForce NOW app, and pair it directly to the streaming device if possible. A wired connection can help if Bluetooth range or interference is an issue and the device supports wired input. Keyboard and mouse may be useful for navigating, but do not count on them as the way to play TV games.
Internet speed, latency and stream quality
NVIDIA’s TV-related requirements give these minimum bandwidth figures for the listed stream targets:
| Stream target | Listed minimum bandwidth and platform qualification |
|---|---|
| 720p at up to 60 fps | 15 Mbps for Android TV/Chromecast, SHIELD TV, and listed Fire TV devices |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 25 Mbps for Android TV/Chromecast, SHIELD TV, and listed Fire TV devices |
| 1080p at 120 fps | 35 Mbps for SHIELD TV |
| 4K at 60 fps | 40 Mbps for SHIELD TV and Smart TV |
| 4K at 120 fps | 45 Mbps for Smart TV |
These are NVIDIA’s stated bandwidth requirements, not a guarantee of smooth play. The system requirements also recommend latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center. Latency, jitter, packet loss, Wi-Fi congestion, your distance from a data center, router placement, and other household traffic can all affect responsiveness. A fast internet-plan headline speed cannot tell you by itself whether a game will feel responsive.
- Use Ethernet for a fixed TV or streaming box where possible.
- If Ethernet is not practical, use 5 GHz Wi-Fi and place the device near the router.
- Test at the location and time you intend to play, with ordinary household internet use.
- If the picture stutters, try a lower stream resolution or frame rate as a troubleshooting step; it will not fix persistent network instability.
Memberships, 4K and current price signals
NVIDIA offers Free, Performance, and Ultimate memberships, plus a 24-hour Day Pass for Ultimate-level access. The membership choice affects more than image resolution: queue priority, session length and playtime rules, interruptions, access to higher-performance cloud hardware, and RTX features can differ. Review the current membership comparison for the benefits and limits attached to your account and region.
NVIDIA’s TV requirements say Ultimate is required for 4K on Smart TVs and for 4K and HDR on SHIELD TV. The current Android TV/Chromecast section lists requirements through 1080p/60 fps, so do not assume that an Android TV dongle offers the same resolution ceiling. A 4K television alone does not make the entire app-and-device path capable of 4K.

Official NVIDIA material reviewed on August 18, 2026, signaled U.S. prices of $9.99 per month or $49.99 for six months for Performance, and $19.99 per month or $99.99 for six months for Ultimate. NVIDIA also offers a Day Pass, but its amount should be checked at checkout. These are dated pricing signals, not a promise that every region, account, billing period, or checkout session will show the same price; verify the live U.S. membership page before paying. NVIDIA’s FAQ notes that playtime rules changed for memberships after January 15, 2026; subscribers with grandfathered unlimited playtime retain that treatment until the first billing date after that date. Check the current playtime FAQ for the rule that applies to your membership.
For occasional play, testing the Free tier can establish whether your TV and network work before you commit. Performance may suit a 1080p setup when its queue and session terms fit your needs; Ultimate is the relevant tier if you specifically want the listed 4K/HDR capabilities on a supported TV platform. Neither membership replaces game ownership or access through a supported storefront.

Why a game may not appear
GeForce NOW does not make every PC game available to stream. A title can be absent because it is not supported, the publisher has changed availability, you own a different storefront edition, the game requires another launcher login, or you lack the subscription that grants access. Check NVIDIA’s catalog, confirm the connected store account, and verify that you have the correct PC edition before troubleshooting the TV itself. NVIDIA describes support for Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, PC Game Pass, Ubisoft Connect, and other services, but store support does not mean every game in that store is playable through GeForce NOW.
Troubleshooting common TV problems
The app is missing from the TV’s app store
- Install available TV firmware updates, then restart the TV and app store.
- Search again for the exact name, “GeForce NOW.”
- Check NVIDIA’s current requirements for the TV model, model year, and region.
- If the TV is not listed or the app remains unavailable, use a supported HDMI device or a computer connected to the TV.
The game is missing or sign-in will not complete
Confirm the title is supported and that you own the correct PC edition or have an active subscription that provides access. Check the linked storefront account and complete any separate publisher or launcher login the game requests. If a login repeats, restart the app and verify account linking rather than assuming the TV model is at fault.
The game stutters or the picture looks poor
Check whether the device is on congested 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi instead of 5 GHz, whether other household traffic is using the connection, and whether the router is poorly placed. Check latency and packet loss as well as bandwidth. Try Ethernet before paying for a faster internet plan; if the connection is stable but the stream still struggles, lower the stream resolution or frame rate and confirm the device and membership support your desired quality. TV motion smoothing or other picture processing can also affect how motion looks.
The controller is visible but does not control the game
- Update the controller firmware.
- Disconnect and reconnect Bluetooth, or pair the controller directly with the streaming device.
- Restart the GeForce NOW app and relaunch the game.
- Try a controller NVIDIA lists for your device, such as a supported Xbox or PlayStation controller.
- Check whether the game is waiting for a keyboard, mouse, or separate launcher login.
The TV app works, but the expected resolution is unavailable
Check the platform’s own limits, the membership tier, and the stream target: NVIDIA’s listed Android TV/Chromecast requirements do not show 4K, and 4K on Smart TV or SHIELD TV requires Ultimate. Also confirm that the TV, streaming device, and any connected AV equipment support the selected signal. A 4K panel by itself does not establish that the complete setup can stream at 4K.
Quick Recap
Is GeForce NOW on a TV worth it?
- Good fit: You already own supported PC games, have a compatible TV or streaming device, and can provide a stable low-latency connection. It can bring supported PC games to the living room without a gaming PC attached to the TV.
- Try native TV support first: If your Samsung or LG model offers the official app, it avoids buying another streaming device. Start with a compatible controller and test the connection before upgrading a membership.
- Consider SHIELD TV: It is a sensible route when a dedicated box and the listed 4K/60 and HDR capabilities matter enough to justify the hardware and, for those features, Ultimate membership.
- Consider a listed Fire TV or Android TV device: This can be a practical HDMI route if you already own a compatible generation and 1080p gaming is sufficient. Confirm model and software support first.
- Look elsewhere if you want a bundled game library: GeForce NOW streams eligible games you can access; it is not an all-inclusive catalog subscription. Compare a catalog-based service if you do not own or subscribe to supported PC games.
- Use a PC connection for keyboard-and-mouse games: A computer attached to the TV offers greater flexibility than relying on TV gameplay controls.
