Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Most gamers do not need ten expensive accessories. A sensible collection covers ten equipment categories, then stops when your actual bottleneck is fixed. Start with a suitable display and primary controls; add audio, storage, networking, power protection, charging, comfort equipment, and a platform-specific specialist accessory only when they solve a real problem.
“Essential” here means equipment that lets you play, improves control or comfort, prevents a common limitation, improves communication, protects the setup, or provides a broadly useful quality-of-life benefit. RGB lighting, decorative stands, premium desk mats, expensive chairs and high-end DACs are usually enhancements, not requirements.

Official compatibility catalogs are the safest starting point: PlayStation’s accessories page separates controllers, audio, monitors, cameras and storage, while the Xbox accessories catalog lists controllers, headsets, expansion cards and adaptive devices.
Choose your upgrade path
- PC: Fix display performance, keyboard-and-mouse comfort, storage and network stability first.
- PlayStation 5: Keep the included DualSense unless you need a second controller or specific features such as paddles or adjustable triggers; check PS5 storage rules before buying a drive.
- Xbox Series X|S: Check whether storage is an official expansion card before purchasing. A normal USB drive is not a substitute for directly playable Series games.
- Handheld: Prioritize grip comfort, battery life, a compatible charger, a case, screen protection and supported microSD storage.
- Streaming or recording: Add a microphone, webcam, lighting and capture card only after the playing setup works well.
1. Display: the foundation for image and motion
Monitor or television?
A monitor is generally easier to place at a desk, offers more ergonomic adjustment and often provides high refresh rates, DisplayPort on PC and low-latency modes. A television makes more sense for a living room, a larger viewing distance, integrated speakers and, in some models, stronger HDR.
#1 Best Overall
- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50 MM DRIVERS — Our cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows—producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides, with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240 g, the headset features thicker headband padding and memory foam ear cushions with leatherette to keep gaming in peak form during grueling tournaments and training sessions
- WORKS WITH WINDOWS SONIC — Make the most of the headset’s powerful drivers by pairing it with lifelike surround sound that places audio with pinpoint accuracy, heightening in-game awareness and immersion
Match the screen to the system. A 4K panel is not automatically worthwhile if the PC or console cannot render games near 4K. A 240 Hz monitor is useful only when the system and the particular games can produce frame rates high enough to use it. PlayStation currently promotes monitors with QHD, HDR, refresh rates up to 240 Hz and VRR, but those modes are not guaranteed in every game or on every platform (official PlayStation accessories information).
Specifications that matter
- VRR: FreeSync and G-SYNC can reduce tearing and stutter, but support depends on the GPU, console, HDMI version, display input and game implementation.
- Panel: OLED generally delivers very high contrast and fast response. LCD can cost less and may be preferable where static-image retention is a concern. Longevity and retention depend on the specific model and use.
- Size and distance: A larger screen is not better if you sit close enough to see individual pixels or cannot comfortably scan it.
- Inputs: Check the exact HDMI or DisplayPort input for the resolution and refresh combination you intend to use.
Buy this if: your current screen is too slow, too small, lacks the output mode your system can use, or causes eye and neck discomfort. Do not buy yet: if your current display is responsive, comfortable and matched to your frame rate.
2. Primary input device
PC keyboard and mouse
For most PC games, the minimum is a keyboard and mouse. Mouse shape, weight, sensor behavior, click feel, polling rate, wireless latency and software quality matter more than a headline DPI number. For keyboards, compare layout, switch feel, stabilizers, latency, remapping, detachable cables and operating-system support. Mechanical switches are a preference, not a universal performance requirement.
Console and handheld controls
The controller included with a console is sufficient for many players. Built-in handheld controls can also be enough. Prioritize comfort, stick and button quality, battery life, docking compatibility and repairability before buying a replacement.
Buy this if: your controls are uncomfortable, unreliable or unsuitable for your games. Do not buy yet: when the included controller already fits your games and hands.

- 【Wide Compatibility with Gaming Devices】Setup the perfect entertainment system by plugging in 2.4G USB. The convenience of dual USB work seamlessly with your PS5,PS4, PC, Mac, Laptop, Switch and saves you from swapping cables.
3. Secondary or genre-specific input
A second input method is valuable only when a game benefits from it: a controller for PC platformers, racing, fighting and sports games; keyboard and mouse for supported console shooters; a fight stick, racing wheel, flight stick, adaptive controller or switch interface for a particular player.
Premium console controllers can add paddles, trigger stops, replaceable sticks and remapping. Those features help only when your games and habits use them. The Xbox catalog includes both conventional and adaptive devices, including the Logitech Adaptive Gaming Kit and AbleNet switches (Xbox accessories catalog), so accessibility should be treated as a core buying requirement when relevant, not an afterthought.
US Xbox catalog observations around August 16, 2026 showed basic wired controllers at approximately $29.99–$49.99, the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 Core at $149.99, and premium wireless models commonly around $139.99–$209.99. These are volatile catalog prices, not permanent recommendations.
4. Headset or other audio solution
Audio becomes close to essential for multiplayer, competitive play and late-night sessions, but a premium headset is not mandatory. Choose based on comfort, microphone clarity, connection, latency, battery, sidetone and platform support.
| Connection | Strength | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| 3.5 mm wired | Simple, inexpensive and usually low-latency | Cable management |
| USB wired | Easy computer setup and often useful controls | Platform and port compatibility |
| 2.4 GHz wireless | Usually designed for gaming latency and chat | Dongle, charging and platform restrictions |
| Bluetooth | Convenient across phones and general devices | Latency and compatibility vary |
| Open-back | Natural soundstage | Leaks sound and offers little isolation |
| Closed-back | Isolation and microphone privacy | Can feel warmer over long sessions |
A detachable or boom microphone is generally more reliable for voice chat than a cheap built-in microphone. Dedicated PlayStation headsets and earbuds are positioned for communication and spatial audio, but branded spatial-audio processing is not a guaranteed competitive advantage (PlayStation accessories).

Buy this if: you need clear chat, isolation or private listening. Cheaper alternative: a good wired headset or ordinary headphones with a compatible microphone. Do not buy yet: an expensive wireless or audiophile model when you play occasionally and speakers already work.
5. Storage expansion
Storage is one of the highest-value upgrades for large digital libraries, but platform rules are decisive.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
PlayStation 5
PlayStation’s official accessories information says compatible internal M.2 SSD storage can expand PS5 storage by up to 8 TB. Officially licensed external SSDs can provide up to 2 TB for storing PS5 and PS4 games; PS4 games can be played directly from supported external storage, while PS5 games generally must be moved to compatible internal storage to play. Verify the current console and firmware requirements before installation (PlayStation accessories).
Xbox Series X|S
Series consoles use proprietary Storage Expansion Cards for directly expanding current-generation game storage. The official US catalog lists 512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB and 4 TB Seagate and WD_BLACK cards, with observed prices from roughly $79.99 to $549.99 around August 16, 2026. Availability and price change frequently (Xbox accessories).
PC and handheld
For PC, compare NVMe SSD, SATA SSD and hard-drive capacity, free-space headroom, M.2 size, motherboard interface, heatsink clearance and whether the drive is for active games, media or backups. A newer PCIe generation does not automatically produce proportionally faster game loading; capacity and random-access behavior often matter more.

- Enjoy expansive cinematic sound. Big 50 mm audio drivers deliver an incredible sound experience
- Hear Enemies From All Sides. DTS Headphone:X 2.0 surround sound(1) lets you hear enemies sneaking behind you, special ability cues, and immersive environments. It’s positional clarity that can make the difference between victory and defeat. Experience three-dimensional audio that goes beyond 7.1 channels to make you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action. (1) DTS Headphone:X 2.0 requires Logitech G HUB Software.
- Be Heard Loud and Clear. The big 6 mm boom mic makes sure you’re heard by gaming partners and mutes when flipped up.
- Use One Headset For Most Game Platforms. Your headphones work with your PC or Mac via USB DAC or 3.5 mm cable, mobile devices with 3.5 mm cable or with gaming consoles including PlayStationⓇ 5 and PlayStationⓇ 4 (USB wireless stereo sound only), Nintendo Switch (wireless stereo sound when docked)
- Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
Handheld microSD capacity, format and speed support vary by device. Check the manufacturer’s limits before buying. Physical fit alone does not prove that an SSD or card is electrically, thermally or firmware-compatible.
6. A reliable network connection
Bandwidth is how much data a connection can move; latency is delay; jitter is variation in that delay; packet loss is data that fails to arrive; bufferbloat is a latency spike when the connection is saturated. A high idle speed test does not prove that online games will be stable.
- Use Ethernet when practical.
- On Wi-Fi, place the access point sensibly and reduce distance and interference.
- Use router traffic-management or QoS features only when you can configure and test them.
- Test while the problem is occurring, including latency under load.
Mesh Wi-Fi can improve coverage but may add wireless hops. A wired access point or Ethernet backhaul is often preferable where cabling is possible. A gaming router cannot fix distant servers, poor ISP routing or packet loss outside your home.
7. Safe power equipment
Use a properly rated surge protector for a stationary setup, but do not confuse it with a UPS battery backup, voltage regulator or whole-home protection. A UPS is useful during frequent outages, long downloads or firmware updates, or when you want time to save work and shut down a desktop, router or modem safely.
- Check the load rating and replace damaged or worn units.
- Do not daisy-chain power strips.
- Understand that no consumer surge protector guarantees protection against every electrical event; results depend on the device, installation, event and warranty terms.
8. Charging and cable management
A controller dock, rechargeable battery pack, spare USB-C cable, cable clips, under-desk routing, powered USB hub or handheld dock can remove daily friction. Check that the dock includes the correct battery or adapter, supports charging while stored, and supplies the required power and video output.

USB-C describes a connector shape, not guaranteed charging speed, video output or data-transfer capability. Confirm cable length, flexibility, power delivery and data standards. Do not buy a proprietary charging accessory when a safe standard cable already solves the problem.
9. Ergonomic workstation equipment
For desk-based play, an adjustable office or task chair is usually a better starting point than a racing-style chair without fit and support. Look for adjustable seat height, a suitable seat pan, adjustable armrests, stable recline and adequate back support. Also set desk height, monitor position, viewing distance, wrist angle and foot support, and change position regularly.
Price does not guarantee comfort: a chair can be expensive yet wrong for your body or desk. Persistent pain, numbness, weakness or other symptoms warrant advice from an appropriate health professional.
10. Creator, backup or family accessory
The tenth category is deliberately conditional rather than universal.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchPC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11| If you are… | Useful addition | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A streamer | Capture card, USB microphone, webcam and lighting | Recording and broadcasting gameplay |
| A competitive player | Spare controller, replacement sticks, mouse skates or backup cable | Reliability during long sessions or events |
| Sharing a family setup | Second controller, charging dock, splitter or child-safe volume control | Convenience and safer shared use |
| Data-conscious | External backup drive or cloud backup | Protecting saves, recordings and personal files |
| A handheld player | Case, screen protector, power bank and compatible microSD card | Portability, protection and endurance |
A capture card adds cabling, software and possible HDCP, HDR and passthrough complications. Verify console compatibility, resolution, refresh rate and software support. Microphone placement and room acoustics can matter as much as the microphone itself.
Buy in this order
- Fix a limitation: solve inadequate storage, a poor display, unreliable controls or unstable networking.
- Improve comfort and reliability: address audio comfort, charging, cable routing, power protection and seating.
- Add convenience: choose a dock, backup or second controller.
- Add specialized performance equipment: consider a wheel, fight stick, premium controller or creator hardware for a defined use case.
- Add aesthetics last: RGB and decorative upgrades should not displace functional equipment.
A premium headset will not create storage, and a new mouse will not fix low frame rates. If the current setup is comfortable, responsive and spacious enough, buying nothing is the correct recommendation.
Build by budget
- Under $100: buy the item that removes the biggest bottleneck—a wired headset, controller, charging kit or platform-compatible storage.
- Around $250: combine a quality headset or controller with practical storage, charging or desk improvements.
- Around $500: choose a display plus audio and storage, or refresh a complete PC peripheral set.
- Premium: spend only after identifying a specific requirement such as OLED contrast, wireless mixing, adaptive control, tournament reliability or streaming.
Use current prices as checkpoints rather than timeless promises. The Xbox figures above were US catalog observations around August 16, 2026; promotions, stock, region and revisions can change them.
Quick Recap
Compatibility and failure checklist
- Headset works on PC but not console: check USB support, wireless-dongle mode, console licensing, chat mixing and whether 3.5 mm must connect through the controller.
- SSD fits but is unsupported: verify interface, speed, firmware, heatsink clearance, thermal behavior and console certification.
- HDMI mode is missing: connect the source directly to the display, use the correct HDMI port, confirm the resolution-refresh combination and remove switches or receivers while testing.
- Wi-Fi is fast but games lag: investigate server distance, packet loss, jitter, congestion, bufferbloat and ISP routing—not just download speed.
- Charging dock is slow: inspect the battery pack, contacts, adapter rating, cable, dock compatibility and battery age.
- Premium controller changes nothing: verify that paddles, trigger stops or replaceable parts actually match your games; also account for firmware, drift, battery and replacement-part risks.
- Chair causes discomfort: adjust it and the desk, then reassess fit; “gaming chair” is not a standardized ergonomic specification.
Final buying checklist
- Confirm the platform and exact model.
- Identify the game genres and current bottleneck.
- Check connection type, software and console licensing.
- Verify storage format, capacity and direct-play rules.
- List the cables, batteries, adapters and stands already included.
- Check warranty, replacement parts and return policy.
- Compare a budget, midrange and premium option.
- Buy only the category that solves a real problem.
