Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is worth playing if you want a first-person Indy adventure built around exploration, puzzles and improvised action—not a conventional shooter. Its mix of linear story chapters and open-area maps gives you room to search for secrets between set pieces. Whether it suits you depends most on your appetite for first-person exploration and which platform and edition you choose.

What kind of Indiana Jones game is it?

Set between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, The Great Circle puts you in a first-person adventure as Indy. Bethesda describes it as a story of exploration, action and puzzles; the PlayStation listing adds that it alternates between linear, narrative-driven sections and open-area maps filled with secrets, traps and puzzles. Bethesda’s official game page and Sony’s PS5 listing establish that broad structure, rather than promising an entirely open world.

That distinction matters: the appeal is the opportunity to investigate spaces and solve problems as Indy, not simply to move from one firefight to the next. If you prefer third-person action or a tightly guided game with little searching, the first-person viewpoint and exploratory rhythm may be a poor fit.

How do exploration, puzzles and action balance out?

TechRadar reviewer Matt Cabral describes the game as a story-driven adventure with deep exploration, puzzle-solving, collectibles and improvisational combat. That is his assessment, based on his review—not a guarantee that every player will find the balance ideal. His PS5 review, first published in May–June 2025, calls it a strong adventure.

#1 Best Overall
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle | Standard Edition | Xbox Series X|S and Windows Digital Code
  • YOU ARE INDIANA JONES – Live the adventure as Indy in a thrilling story full of exploration, immersive action, and intriguing puzzles. As the brilliant archaeologist – famed for his keen intellect, cunning resourcefulness, and trademark humo
  • A WORLD OF MYSTERY AWAITS – Travel from the halls of Marshall College to the heart of the Vatican, the pyramids of Egypt, the sunken temples of Sukhothai, and beyond. Forging new alliances and facing familiar enemies, you’ll engage with intriguing characters, use guile and wits to solve ancient riddles, and survive intense set-pieces.
  • WHIP-CRACKING ACTION – Indiana’s trademark whip remains at the heart of his gear and can be used to distract, disarm, and attack enemies. But the whip isn’t just a weapon, it’s Indy’s most valuable tool for navigating the environment.
  • THE SPIRIT OF DISCOVERY – Venture through a dynamic mix of linear, narrative-driven gameplay and open-area maps. Indulge your inner explorer and unearth a world of fascinating secrets, deadly traps and fiendish puzzles

Expect action as one part of an adventure that also asks you to look around, work through puzzles and pursue optional discoveries. The official descriptions emphasize those components, but do not quantify how much time any player will spend on each. Go in for an Indy-flavored adventure and hands-on problem-solving; do not choose it expecting a pure shooter.

Which platform should you choose?

Bethesda currently lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch 2 version became available on May 12, 2026, with mouse-control support and motion controls, according to Bethesda’s launch announcement. Its Update 8 notes also document Switch 2 mouse controls. These are official feature descriptions, not independent measurements of performance or image quality.

Cabral reviewed on PS5 Pro and spent several hours with the Xbox Series X version for comparison. He judged the PS5 Pro version the best console version, while saying the underlying game content is identical across Xbox and PC. Treat that as one reviewer’s platform assessment, not a universal performance verdict; the cited review does not settle which version every player should buy.

What accessibility options are documented?

Sony’s PS5 listing names high-contrast visuals, independent audio-volume controls, mono audio, and subtitle and caption options. Cabral also reports adjustable UI size and color, color-vision filters, camera options including motion blur and screen shake, and separate difficulty settings for action and adventure. His observations concern the version he reviewed; check the platform’s current listing and in-game menus for the options available to you.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order of Giants - Xbox & Windows 10 [Digital Code]
  • An all-new story chapter takes Indiana Jones to the ancient streets of Rome where forgotten catacombs twist into something far more sinister. Indy must outwit a dangerous cult and decipher intricate puzzles designed by emperors to uncover the dark legacy of the Nephilim giants.
  • MYSTERIES OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE AWAIT When Indiana Jones encounters Father Ricci, a young priest desperate for help to track down a Roman artifact, a standard treasure hunt soon turns into a perilous journey. Along the way Indy must face the sinister plots of Emperor Nero and his gladiator games, the enigmatic Cult of Mithras, and whatever else lurks in the shadows. Can Father Ricci's cryptic knowledge guide Indy through these treacherous passageways? Only Indiana Jones can piece together this breathtaking mystery.
  • EXPLORE THE SHADOWS OF ROME Danger awaits as The Order of Giants takes Indiana Jones beyond the walls of Vatican City and into a brand new open-area map in the bustling city of Rome. Adventure through the crumbling ruins of the Colosseum to the pristine Vatican Gardens. The mystery will also take you into Rome’s ancient sewer system, the Cloaca Maxima, and deeper below ground to foreboding crypts.
  • A DANGEROUS CULT The secretive, centuries old Cultists of Mithras are everywhere, striking from the shadows. Their dark red robes reflect the blood oaths to their cause, and they’re willing to kill or die to protect the ancient power they serve.

Which edition should you buy?

Edition details and physical availability can vary by region, so check the local platform store or retailer for current price, format and stock. Bethesda’s buy page distinguishes the base game from these additions:

  • Standard Edition: the base game. Bethesda says physical discs are included with Xbox and PS5 Standard Edition purchases where available; physical availability varies by region.
  • Premium Edition: the base game, The Order of Giants story DLC, a digital artbook and the Temple of Doom outfit.
  • Premium Upgrade: The Order of Giants, the digital artbook and the outfit, but not the base game. You need the base game to play the DLC; Bethesda also sells the DLC separately.
  • Collector’s Edition: Bethesda lists an 11-inch globe with hidden storage, an Allmaker relic replica with a digital Premium Edition game code, a SteelBook, an adventure journal, The Order of Giants DLC, a digital artbook and the Temple of Doom outfit. Check the local listing for availability and format.

If you only want the main adventure, compare the Standard Edition with the Premium Edition at your local store. If you already own the game, make sure an upgrade listing does not lead you to expect another base-game copy.

Who should play it?

  • A good fit: players who want to inhabit an Indiana Jones story in first person, explore environments, solve puzzles and mix action with improvisation.
  • Consider another style of game: players who want a conventional shooter, strongly prefer third-person play, or do not enjoy searching through spaces for secrets and clues.
  • Choose by platform: Switch 2 offers documented mouse and motion controls; PS5 advertises DualSense and audio features; PC players can consult Bethesda’s patch notes for listed technical fixes. None of those feature notes alone establishes which version performs best on your setup.
  • Choose by access needs: the PS5 listing and Cabral’s review document a range of subtitle, visual, audio, camera and difficulty options. Confirm specific options on your platform before buying if one is essential.

So, is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle worth playing? Yes, if the idea of exploring and solving puzzles as Indy sounds as appealing as its action, and you are comfortable with first-person play. It is a less obvious pick for someone seeking a nonstop shooter or a different camera perspective. The game is available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS5 and Switch 2; edition extras and platform features should guide the final choice, not assumptions that one version has different core content.
