PlayStation Plus Premium is Sony’s highest US subscription tier. It lets you claim monthly games, download eligible PS4 and PS5 titles, stream supported games on PS5 and PS4, use the PlayStation Plus PC app, access selected Classics and Game Trials, and—where currently supported—cloud-stream games on PlayStation Portal. You do not permanently own catalog games: access depends on an active membership and a title remaining in the service.
This US-focused guide explains which tier fits, where to find each game category, how downloading and streaming work, what happens to saves and DLC, and how to fix common access problems.

What Premium includes
Premium includes every Essential and Extra benefit, plus the features in the table below. Availability, catalog contents and some device features vary by country, game, account age and current Sony policy.

US prices and choosing between tiers
The following recurring prices were checked on the US PlayStation Plus page on August 16–18, 2026. Taxes, promotions and renewal prices can change, so verify the live checkout page before paying.

Choose Essential if multiplayer and monthly games are your priority. Choose Extra if you will download modern catalog games but do not need Premium-only features. Premium makes sense when you will actually use cloud streaming, Classics, Game Trials, or streaming on PC or supported Portal configurations. In markets without cloud streaming, Sony may offer a Deluxe tier instead of Premium.
Find the right kind of game
Monthly Games
On PS5, go to Games home → PlayStation Plus → Benefits → Monthly Games, choose a title and select Download. On PS4, open Function screen → PlayStation Plus → Monthly Games, select the game, then choose Add to Library → Download. Adding a monthly game to your library is an entitlement, not a purchase.

On PS5, use Games home → PlayStation Plus → Benefits → Game Catalog. On PS4, use Function screen → PlayStation Plus → Game Catalog. A listing may offer Download, Stream, or both. Check its removal date and platform version before starting.

Classics Catalog
On PS5, open Games home → PlayStation Plus → Benefits → Classics Catalog. On PS4, open Function screen → PlayStation Plus → Classics Catalog. Availability and play method vary; some older games download, while certain PS3 titles are streaming-only. See Sony’s Classics Catalog support page.
Game Trials
Premium trials provide limited access to selected games before purchase. They are not the same as full Game Catalog access. The eligible title, duration and renewal behavior are shown in the offer’s terms; Sony’s service page is here.

Use Sony’s live PS Plus games page and its Cloud Streaming Game Finder where available. On a console, the game’s listing must show a Stream button. Catalog size and streamability change, so static lists quickly become outdated.
Download games on PS5
- From the Games home screen, select PlayStation Plus.
- Open Benefits.
- Choose Monthly Games, Game Catalog or Classics Catalog.
- Select an eligible title and choose Download.
- Launch it from Games home or Game Library after installation.
- PS5 versions can be downloaded only to a PS5. A PS4 version, if offered, is a separate selection.
- The game remains entitlement-controlled even if it stays installed after leaving the catalog.
- Downloading is preferable for offline play, lower latency and features that streaming disables.
Download games on PS4
- From the function screen, scroll to PlayStation Plus.
- Select Game Catalog, Classics Catalog or Monthly Games.
- Highlight the game.
- Select Download. For a monthly game, select Add to Library → Download.
A PS5 game cannot be downloaded to a PS4. Confirm the platform shown on the listing.
Stream Premium games
PS5
- Open PlayStation Plus.
- Go to Benefits, then open Game Catalog or Classics Catalog.
- Select a title that displays Stream.
- Select Stream and wait for the session to launch.
PS4
- Open PlayStation Plus from the function screen.
- Choose Game Catalog or Classics Catalog.
- Select a supported title and choose Stream.
Sony requires at least 5 Mbps broadband for streaming and lists 15 Mbps as the minimum for 1080p when the game supports that resolution. A connection below the applicable level can reduce picture quality. Streaming runs the game on Sony’s servers; it is not Remote Play, which streams from your own console. Windows PC
- Download and install the official PlayStation Plus PC app.
- Launch it and sign in with an adult PlayStation account.
- Connect a compatible controller.
- Select a supported Premium game and start streaming.
Sony lists 5 Mbps as the minimum and recommends a wired connection. Keyboard and mouse may navigate the app, but a compatible controller is required for gameplay; third-party XInput devices are not guaranteed. Sony’s page currently lists Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 requirements, so check that page again before installation because operating-system support can change. PC streaming is restricted to adult accounts and content can vary by age.

PlayStation Portal
Cloud streaming is available on supported Portal configurations and in regions where Sony offers the feature. It is distinct from Remote Play: supported Premium games can run from the cloud without being installed on your PS5. Portal is not required for Premium, and membership management is handled through a PS5, the PlayStation App or the PlayStation website. Verify current firmware, region, account-age and catalog restrictions in Sony’s Portal support information.
Downloading versus streaming

Save data when switching methods
Downloaded games save on the console. Streamed games save in PlayStation’s streaming storage. Progress does not automatically appear when you switch between a streamed and downloaded version of the same game. Use cloud storage to move it, following Sony’s save-transfer instructions.
- Copy the streamed game’s save to online/cloud storage.
- On the console, download that save to console storage.
- Launch the downloaded version and confirm that it recognizes the save.
Menu labels differ between PS5, PS4 and PC streaming, so follow the device-specific path on Sony’s support page.
When Premium ends or a game leaves
Monthly games you claimed become unavailable when the membership ends, then become playable again if you resubscribe under the applicable terms. Game Catalog and Classics Catalog titles can be removed while you are subscribed. An installed game may remain on the drive but become locked because the entitlement is gone. Buying it separately restores purchase-based access.

DLC and add-ons depend on access to the base game and matching account and region. If catalog access ends, related add-ons may stop working; Sony also states that DLC and add-ons are not supported during streaming.
Sharing, online play and cloud storage
Selected benefits can be shared on one PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled and on one activated primary PS4. This does not transfer every Premium entitlement to every account or device. All three tiers include online multiplayer where a game requires PS Plus, while free-to-play games can be exempt. All tiers also include 100 GB of cloud storage for PS5 and PS4 saves; it is backup space, not game streaming.

No Download or Stream button
- Confirm the active tier under account subscriptions.
- Check Sony’s live catalog for removal status, platform and streamability.
- Verify the correct account, region and age or parental-control settings.
- Check whether you selected a PS5 version on a PS4.
- Restore licenses, restart the console or app, check PlayStation Network status and install system updates.
Download will not start
- Open Downloads/Uploads from the PS5 control center.
- Pause and resume the item.
- If necessary, cancel and delete it.
- Find the game in Game Library and retry.
- Check storage, network status and system software.

Poor streaming quality
- Test the connection against Sony’s 5 Mbps minimum.
- Use Ethernet where possible; otherwise try 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Stop other high-bandwidth activity and reduce wireless interference.
- Enable TV Game Mode if available.
- Download the game instead when that option exists.
Save missing after downloading
The save may still be in streaming storage. Transfer it through cloud storage using the process above.
Is Premium worth it?
- Online-focused player: Essential is usually the logical starting point.
- Modern catalog downloader: Extra may provide nearly everything you use at a lower price.
- Classic-game fan: Premium is the tier with the Classics Catalog.
- PC or Portal player: Premium is the relevant tier for supported cloud streaming, provided your region, account and connection qualify.
- Frequent sampler: Premium’s trials can help you test selected games, but they are time-limited.
- Small, permanent library: Buying favorite games individually avoids catalog removals and subscription dependence.
Premium is not universally the best value. Its extra cost is justified when you will use streaming, Classics or Trials; if you only download a few modern games to a PS5, Extra is often the more targeted choice.
Limits to check before subscribing
- Catalog contents and removal dates vary by region and change over time.
- Streaming is title-specific, not a guarantee for every Premium game.
- Child accounts and parental controls can restrict content and network functions; PC streaming requires an adult account.
- Cloud streaming can have queues, variable latency and unavailable features.
- US Premium prices and benefits should not be generalized to markets that use Deluxe.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play every Premium game offline?
No. Downloaded games may support offline play subject to entitlement checks, but streamed games require a continuous internet connection.
Can I stream every Premium game?
No. Streaming is available only for supported titles, devices and regions; look for the Stream button.

Can I use Premium on PC without a PlayStation console?
You can stream through the PlayStation Plus PC app with an adult account, compatible controller and supported region; a PS5 is not required for that cloud-streaming route.
Can I download PS5 games to PS4?
No. A PS5 game requires a PS5; select a separately listed PS4 version when one exists.
Do I keep catalog games after canceling?
No. Monthly games and catalog entitlements require an active, qualifying membership; purchased games are separate.
Does Premium include online multiplayer?
Yes, for games that require PS Plus. Free-to-play games may not require membership.
Can I share Premium with family?
Selected benefits can be shared through one PS5’s Console Sharing and Offline Play or one activated primary PS4, but not every entitlement transfers universally.
