From there, you can set per-game controls and, where available, power, display, lighting, and other options. The exact menu labels and features depend on your Armoury Crate SE version and device.
What a Game Profile can change
An Armoury Crate SE Game Profile is a set of options associated with an individual game or application. It is broader than a button-remapping layout. Depending on your software version and hardware, it can include:
- Gamepad or Desktop control mode, button and trigger mappings, and rear-button functions.
- Keyboard, mouse, shortcut, or system-function assignments where supported.
- Joystick response or sensitivity, plus haptic or vibration behavior.
- An operating mode, FPS limit, and selected GPU options.
- Aura Sync lighting, a GameVisual display preset, and game-library artwork.
ASUS documents per-game control modes, mappings, stick settings, and other Game Options in its Armoury Crate SE support guide. ASUS’s guides also describe operating modes, FPS limiting, supported GPU settings, lighting, GameVisual, and artwork as possible profile options. Not every Ally or software release exposes every setting.
Before you create the profile
- Make sure Armoury Crate SE is installed and opens normally, and that the game appears in its Game Library.
- Update Armoury Crate SE, ASUS components and firmware, and Windows if you are troubleshooting missing or unreliable options.
- Check your installed version in Armoury Crate SE → Settings → About. ASUS also shows the service version there. Interfaces have changed over time, so labels may differ.
- Decide whether the game should use Gamepad Mode or Desktop Mode. Gamepad Mode suits games that recognize a controller; Desktop Mode is useful for mouse-and-keyboard-style games, launchers, and some older titles.
- For the most reliable profile activation, launch the game from its Armoury Crate library entry.
A new game profile generally inherits the applicable global customizations in place when the profile is created. Later changes to global mappings do not automatically update an existing game profile, as ASUS’s ROG guide explains. Edit the individual profile or apply a suitable template when you want to bring it up to date.

Add a game that is missing from the library
- Open Armoury Crate SE and go to Game Library.
- Choose Manage Library or the add-game option shown in your version.
- Browse to the game’s executable or launcher and add it to the library.
- Highlight the new entry, then open Game Options or press X.
If a profile does not activate, try adding the actual game executable rather than only a shortcut to its launcher. A launcher may start a separate gameplay executable, and the library entry can otherwise target the wrong program.
Create and configure the profile
- Press the Armoury Crate button to open Armoury Crate SE, then select Game Library.
- Highlight the game you want to customize.
- Press X on the Ally controller, or open that entry’s Game Options menu.
- Choose Game Profile.
- Select Gamepad Mode or Desktop Mode, as appropriate for the game.
- Open Key Mapping or the control-configuration screen. Select a button, trigger, stick, rear button, or shortcut, then choose an available action.
- Save or apply the mapping. Configure any other options you need, such as stick response, haptics, operating mode, FPS limit, lighting, GameVisual, or supported GPU settings.
- Launch the game from its Armoury Crate entry and test each changed control in gameplay.
ASUS documents highlighting a game and pressing X to reach its profile options in its ROG Ally remapping guide. On another interface version, use the on-screen Game Options command instead.

Choose a template or adjust individual mappings
You can start from an existing layout instead of configuring every control from scratch. In the game’s profile, open Select Template—described by ASUS as being in the upper-right area—choose a suitable game or mapping template, and apply it. Then inspect and change the controls that do not fit your game.
Pay particular attention to whether a mapping is a primary action or is set as a Secondary Function. A secondary assignment is an additional action associated with the relevant modifier behavior; it may not happen when you press the control by itself. If you want the new action to work directly, check whether the secondary-function option should be disabled.

Templates can carry assumptions you do not want, including Gamepad versus Desktop Mode, rear-button conventions, keyboard layout, or secondary assignments. Check each control before relying on an imported layout. ASUS describes exporting a created button-mapping template through the gear icon in its Game Library guide: open Select Template, find the saved template, choose its gear icon, and export the mapping file. This is a button-mapping export, not a confirmed backup of every setting in the game profile.

Depending on the device and software, a Game Profile may offer an FPS limiter, GameVisual preset, or selected GPU features. ASUS’s Ally and Ally X Game Library guide describes these kinds of options, including AMD Fluid Motion Frames on supported configurations. Their presence is not universal: check the options available on your own device rather than assuming a feature or setting is available for every game.

Armoury Crate SE does not replace every graphics or input menu. You may still need to configure resolution, textures, ray tracing, and other game-specific graphics inside the game. AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, Windows display settings, and Steam or another launcher’s overlay and input settings are separate places to check when relevant.
Customize lighting and library appearance
Some profiles can associate a game with an Aura Sync lighting behavior or GameVisual preset, and Armoury Crate SE can display custom game artwork in the library. These options affect presentation or display behavior; they are separate from button mappings and from a game’s internal graphics menu. Availability and menu placement vary by software version and device.
Troubleshoot a profile that does not behave as expected
| Problem | Checks and recovery |
|---|---|
| The game is missing | Use Game Library → Manage Library to add it manually. If needed, add the actual game executable, remove duplicate or incorrect entries, then reopen Armoury Crate SE. |
| The profile does not activate | Launch from the Armoury Crate entry; verify that the profile belongs to the correct game and that the entry points to the right executable. Check the selected control mode and any launcher remapping layer. |
| A mapping works in menus but not during gameplay | Check whether the game is using Gamepad Mode or Desktop Mode as expected, review the game’s own controller setup, and check for Steam Input or another launcher remapping the same controls. A game running with elevated privileges may also affect remapping, but this is not a guaranteed cause. |
| A global mapping change did not appear in the game | Edit the game’s individual profile or apply a template with the desired mapping; existing profiles do not automatically inherit later global changes. |
| A remap seems to do nothing | Confirm the correct mode is active and inspect whether the assignment is set as a secondary function rather than a primary action. |
| An imported template behaves strangely | Inspect Gamepad/Desktop assumptions, button and rear-button assignments, keyboard keys, and secondary functions. Restore your saved known-good mapping if needed. |
| An option is unavailable | Check the Armoury Crate SE version, firmware, Ally model, power state, and whether the specific feature is supported by the installed software. |
If the game starts through Steam, Epic Games, Xbox, Ubisoft Connect, or another launcher, more than one input layer may be active. Confirm the correct executable, test from Armoury Crate, and check the launcher’s input settings. If the conflict is unclear, temporarily disable overlays or other remapping layers and test again; avoid assigning the same control in several systems unless necessary.
For broader software checks, open Armoury Crate SE → Settings → About to identify the installed version, update Armoury Crate SE and ASUS components, and restart Armoury Crate SE or Windows. If the entry still targets the wrong program, remove it and add the correct game executable again. ASUS announced Armoury Crate SE 1.5 on July 22, 2024, with expanded Game Profile customization; that historical release does not establish which version is current on your device. See the ASUS announcement and check About for your installed version.

Quick Recap
Keep profiles manageable
- Use a per-game profile only when a game needs different controls or behavior; use global settings for choices you want everywhere.
- Keep a known-good mapping template before importing or changing a layout.
- Test one change at a time so you can identify which setting caused a problem.
- Avoid stacking remappers for the same controls unless the game requires it.
- Recheck affected profiles after major Armoury Crate SE or firmware changes.
