If Candy Crush Saga will not open, freezes, gets stuck loading, cannot connect, or seems to have lost your progress, start with the least risky checks: test your connection, close and reopen the game, restart your device, then check for updates. The right fix depends on the symptom. Before clearing app data or reinstalling, confirm that your progress is linked to the King or Facebook account you used before.
First, identify what is not working
“Candy Crush is not working” can describe several different problems. Match yours to the closest symptom before trying more disruptive steps:
- The app will not open or crashes: check for a temporary device issue, an update, low storage, or an unsupported operating system.
- The loading screen hangs or the game freezes: restart the game and device, then check for updates and available storage.
- The game says it cannot connect: test your internet connection and account session; Facebook play may also be affected by browser settings.
- The game opens at level 1 or progress is missing: check that you signed in using the same account and method as before.
- The store, a purchase, reward, or event fails: the rest of the game may work while that online feature or account session does not.
- The game will not update: confirm you are updating Candy Crush Saga, then check your device’s operating-system compatibility.
These instructions are for Candy Crush Saga. Candy Crush Soda Saga, Friends Saga, and other King games are separate apps, and their support guidance may differ.
Try these low-risk fixes first
- Check whether the internet works elsewhere. Open a website or another app. If those fail too, address the device or network connection first.
- Switch networks. Try Wi-Fi instead of mobile data, or mobile data instead of Wi-Fi. King Community guidance suggests this for connection and store problems; it is a diagnostic step, not a guaranteed fix. If other services are also offline, restart your router.
- Reset the connection briefly. Turn Airplane Mode on, wait a moment, turn it off, and reopen Candy Crush. If you use a VPN, private DNS, restrictive firewall, or ad-blocking configuration, temporarily disable it to test whether it is interfering with the connection.
- Force-close and reopen the game. On iPhone or iPad, open the app switcher and swipe Candy Crush away. On Android, open recent apps and swipe it away. Then launch it again.
- Restart the device. A full restart is a low-risk next step if the game still crashes or freezes.
- Update Candy Crush Saga. On iPhone or iPad, open the App Store, search for Candy Crush Saga, and tap Update if shown. On Android, search for it in Google Play and tap Update if available. Make sure you have selected Saga, not another Candy Crush title.
King’s guidance for a documented Win Streak reward freeze also recommends restarting, checking the connection, updating the game, and freeing storage; those steps may help with other freezes but are not a guaranteed fix: King’s notice about Win Streak reward freezes.

If Candy Crush will not open, crashes, or freezes
Check available storage
Low storage can interfere with downloads, updates, temporary files, and stability. Remove or move large videos and photos, uninstall apps you no longer use, and empty the recently deleted folder if your device has one. King’s freeze guidance identifies low storage as a possible contributor. A King Community reply has suggested keeping at least 2 GB free, but that is community advice—not a universal official minimum requirement: King Community Android login discussion.
Check for an operating-system update
King lists iOS 15 and Android 5 as the minimum operating-system versions for the game on its update support page. If your device is below the relevant minimum, an update may not be available or the game may not run properly; an older device may not support a newer OS. On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings → General → Software Update. On Android, try Settings → System → System update; manufacturer menus vary. Check King’s update and compatibility guidance for its stated requirements.
Check whether the problem is wider than your device
There is not enough information in the symptoms alone to confirm a game-wide outage. Compare what happens on Wi-Fi and mobile data, whether other apps and websites work, and whether Candy Crush fails on a second device. If ordinary levels work but a store, event, or reward does not, the issue may be limited to that feature or your account session. Check King’s official help or community channels for a notice about a specific issue; do not assume the game is down without an official confirmation.
If Candy Crush cannot connect
Account synchronization, events, stores, rewards, and purchases may need an active connection even if part of the game appears to load offline. After switching networks or resetting your connection, close and reopen Candy Crush.

If Candy Crush will not update
First check the App Store or Google Play listing for Candy Crush Saga, not Soda Saga or another variant. If the store shows no update but the installed game still fails, check the device’s OS version using the paths above. King says newer game versions may not support older operating systems and currently lists iOS 15 and Android 5 as its minimums. If the device cannot run a compatible OS, repeated attempts to update the game may not resolve the problem.
If you play through Facebook or a browser
A Facebook login failure can come from Facebook authentication, cookies, browser extensions, or Facebook gaming settings rather than the game installation. Check whether Facebook itself loads, then try signing out and back in. On a phone, update the Facebook app. In a browser, clear cache and cookies, temporarily disable extensions that block scripts, cookies, or pop-ups, or test a private window or another browser. Check Facebook’s gaming setting
King says Facebook’s non-social gaming option can prevent playing or connecting to Candy Crush through Facebook. King’s documented recovery path is on desktop Facebook:

If progress has disappeared or the game starts at level 1
Do not play extensively on the new profile or reinstall yet. A different sign-in method can open a separate account, making the old progress appear missing. King says logging in helps save and restore progress and synchronize it across devices; offline or unlinked progress may not be recoverable after changing devices. Check which method you originally used—King, Facebook, Apple, or another email address—then sign out and use that same method and account. Stay online and leave the game open on the map for a few minutes to allow synchronization.

King specifically notes that signing in with Apple after previously using King or Facebook can create a new profile; returning to the original login can restore the earlier progress and gold bars. Its Apple-login guidance is at “I signed in with Apple and lost my progress”. A localized article mentions versions before 1.168 in that historical login scenario and recommends version 1.168 or later; that version note is not a current general compatibility requirement: King’s localized Apple-login article. Clear temporary data carefully
Android: clear cache, not storage or data
On many Android devices, go to Settings → Apps → Candy Crush Saga → Storage → Clear cache. The labels and location vary by manufacturer. Clear cache removes temporary files; Clear storage or Clear data is more disruptive and can remove local app information. Do not use those options as a first step, especially if you have not confirmed that progress is linked to your account.

iOS generally does not offer the same per-app cache-clearing control as Android. Force-closing and restarting are safer first choices. You can also look under Settings → General → iPhone Storage (or iPad Storage) → Candy Crush Saga → Offload App, where available. Offloading is not a guaranteed fix, so confirm your account before using it.

Store or purchase stuck on “connecting”
Try switching networks, updating and restarting the game, then checking whether you are signed into the intended King or Facebook profile. If a purchase is pending, do not immediately buy again: save the receipt or transaction details and check whether the original purchase completes before attempting another.
An event disappeared
King says special events are time-limited and may disappear when their timer expires. If one vanishes before you expected, check that you are signed into the right King or Facebook profile; King also notes that an event may sometimes be removed because of a technical problem. A reward did not appear
A weak connection or an overlapping pop-up can delay or obscure a reward. Restart the game and check again later; if it remains missing, contact support with the details. King’s Crushable FAQ covers delayed or missing rewards.
Reinstall only after checking your progress
Reinstalling can help if the installation itself is damaged, but it is a later step—not the first response to a crash or connection problem. Before deleting Candy Crush, confirm your original King or Facebook login, sign in, and give the game time to synchronize. If you have played without linking an account, unsynchronized progress may not return. Local boosters, lives, daily bonus progress, and other temporary items may also be affected; a King Community response warns that deleting the app can lose saved extras, while purchased items may need Player Support: King Community reinstall warning.
If you proceed, reinstall only from the official App Store, Google Play, or the relevant official platform store. Open the game, sign in with the same account and method used before, and remain online on the map while it synchronizes. Avoid APK downloads, unofficial “fixed” versions, and third-party game-modification tools.
When to contact King Player Support
If the steps for your symptom do not help, send King the information that can distinguish a device, account, and game issue:
- Device model, operating-system version, and Candy Crush version.
- The exact symptom and any error message.
- Whether it happens on Wi-Fi, mobile data, or both, and whether another device works.
- Approximately when it began, plus a screenshot or screen recording if possible.
- Purchase receipt or transaction details for a payment issue.
- Your Player ID.
To find the ID, open Candy Crush and select the pink gear icon → Account & Help; King says the ID appears at the top and can be copied. The interface may differ by platform or version. See King’s Player ID instructions. Contact support through the game or King’s official help channels, not through unofficial phone numbers or third-party support sites.
