To get Whisper of the Worm, complete The Whisper activity in Destiny 2. Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 places the activity in Pinnacle Ops and says its Exotic reward is granted when the activity is completed. The associated quests have been deprecated, so older walkthroughs that describe a separate quest chain or reward steps no longer reflect Bungie’s current official guidance. How to start The Whisper
- Open Destiny 2’s Director and look in Pinnacle Ops for The Whisper. Bungie’s current notes identify it as part of Pinnacle Ops, but do not specify the exact menu label or navigation path. Follow the live Director listing and its activity objective display.
- Launch The Whisper and complete the activity. Bungie says the Exotic reward is awarded on completion; the reward is Whisper of the Worm, an Exotic sniper rifle.
The April 4, 2024 announcement described The Whisper as a reprised Exotic mission and identified its reward as a Power-slot Exotic sniper rifle. That announcement also described follow-up quests and crafting options, but those associated quests were later deprecated in Update 9.7.0. See Bungie’s Into the Light announcement.

What has changed in the walkthrough
Older guides may direct you to an Into the Light node, describe a timed traversal route and Taken encounters, or include Oracle puzzles, chests, collectibles and a sequence of weapon-upgrade quests. Those instructions describe earlier versions of the activity and are not confirmed as current steps by Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 notes. Use the live activity listing and objectives rather than relying on an old launch route or reward checklist.
Bungie’s current notes do confirm that mission secrets remain completable for their associated Triumphs. They do not specify the present encounter order, timer, route, difficulty choices, or individual reward substeps, so this walkthrough does not treat legacy details on those points as current instructions.

What Whisper of the Worm does
Bungie’s item definition says: “Missing a shot has a chance to return ammo directly to the magazine.” The weapon also has a Whisper Catalyst socket; Bungie describes the catalyst as upgrading the weapon to a Masterwork. View the Whisper of the Worm item definition.

The Whisper and Whisper of the Worm were unavailable when Destiny 2’s Year 4 content vault changes began on November 10, 2020, according to Bungie’s Destiny Content Vault help page. That is historical information, not the current status: Bungie’s later Update 9.7.0 notes place The Whisper in Pinnacle Ops. Read Bungie’s Destiny Content Vault explanation.
