Yes—PlayStation Portal can now stream some PS5 games without a PS5 console. Sony launched the feature on November 5, 2025 (November 6 in GMT), and it is now a live service rather than a beta. You need a PlayStation Portal, an adult PlayStation account, PlayStation Plus Premium, a supported region and a reliable broadband connection. The important limitation is that only selected PS5 games qualify, including selected digital purchases in your PlayStation Store library; owning a game does not automatically make it streamable.
What changed on PlayStation Portal?
Portal still supports its original Remote Play function, but it now has a second network-based mode: cloud streaming from Sony’s servers. Sony’s November 2025 update also added streaming access for selected digital PS5 games that subscribers own, moving beyond the earlier catalog-only beta. See Sony’s announcement at PlayStation Blog.
| Mode | Where the game runs | PS5 required? | Premium required? | What you can play |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Remote Play | Your paired PS5 | Yes | No, not solely for Remote Play | Games installed or otherwise available on that console |
| Cloud streaming with PlayStation Plus | Sony’s servers | No | Yes | Eligible games in the Game Catalog and Classics Catalog |
| Cloud streaming from Your Library | Sony’s servers | No | Yes | Selected digital PS5 games you own |
Portal therefore is not a local handheld. It has no downloaded games or offline mode for this feature; both of its play modes depend on a network connection.
What you need
- PlayStation Portal.
- An adult PlayStation account (child accounts cannot use Portal cloud streaming).
- An active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.
- A supported country or region.
- Broadband internet: Sony lists 5 Mbps to start a session, 7 Mbps for 720p and 13 Mbps for 1080p on its Portal cloud-streaming support page.
Those figures are minimum thresholds, not a guarantee of smooth play. Wi-Fi congestion, latency, packet loss, router distance and ISP routing can matter as much as download speed. A stable 5 GHz connection close to the router is generally preferable to relying on a speed-test number alone.

U.S. cost
Prices below are U.S. figures displayed on August 18, 2026. Portal’s recommended retail price is $249.99, effective April 2, 2026, according to Sony’s price-change announcement. Premium is $19.99 monthly, $54.99 for three months or $159.99 for 12 months on the U.S. PlayStation Plus page. A new buyer choosing the annual plan is therefore committing at least $409.98 before tax, games and accessories. Premium renews until canceled at the then-current price.
Which games can Portal stream?
PlayStation Plus catalogs
Premium subscribers can stream compatible PS5 titles in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and selected Classics Catalog games. Catalog availability changes by country, licensing and time, and a game can leave a catalog. Portal’s compatibility rules also exclude unsupported entries.
Your digital library
Sony supports selected digital PS5 games purchased for your account. This is not an unlimited cloud locker: every title is checked individually. A physical disc does not establish eligibility for this feature, and buying a digital PS5 game does not guarantee that it can be streamed.
Rank #2
- Sony PSP 3000 International Console, Fully Technician Tested.
Sony-published examples have included Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Resident Evil 4 and Grand Theft Auto V. Treat those as a time- and region-specific snapshot, not a permanent list; check the title’s current cloud eligibility before relying on it.
Unsupported generations and entitlements
Sony’s current Portal documentation says PS3 and PS4 games cannot be streamed on the device. Ineligible games in the Game Catalog, Classics Catalog or Your Library will be omitted or marked as unavailable. Do not assume that Monthly Games, which can be streamable on other PlayStation devices, automatically work on Portal.
How to start a cloud-streaming session
- Turn on Portal and sign in to the adult PlayStation account with Premium.
- On the Home screen, select the Cloud Streaming tab in the upper-left area.
- Choose a title under Cloud Streaming with PlayStation Plus Premium, Streaming Games in PlayStation Plus or an eligible game in Your Library.
- Select Stream and wait for the server session to connect.
The interface lets you switch between Remote Play, Cloud Streaming and search. If a game is missing or labeled unavailable, Portal cannot stream it under the current account, region and licensing rules. Sony says subscriptions cannot be purchased or managed directly on Portal; use a PS5, the PlayStation App or the PlayStation website instead. Interface details are documented in Sony’s accessories support information.

What you cannot do while cloud streaming
Sony currently lists these restrictions for Portal cloud sessions:
| Unavailable function | Effect |
|---|---|
| PS3 or PS4 streaming | Those generations are not supported on Portal cloud streaming. |
| System voice chat and messages | You cannot use the system-level chat and messaging functions. |
| Groups, parties and friend management | Inviting players to groups or parties and managing friends through the system UI are unavailable. |
| Trophy checking | You cannot check trophy availability during the stream. |
| Broadcasting, Share Screen and Share Play | These sharing features are disabled while streaming. |
The November 2025 update also added 3D Audio support for Remote Play and cloud streaming in supported games when compatible audio hardware is used. It does not mean every game or headset supports 3D Audio.
Where cloud streaming on Portal is available
Sony’s current U.S. support page lists Canada, the United States, Japan, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Overseas territories belonging to a listed country may be excluded. Availability can change, so readers elsewhere should check their local PlayStation support page. Markets that use PlayStation Plus Deluxe instead of Premium may not include this benefit.

Is Portal plus Premium worth it?
A strong fit
- You want a dedicated PlayStation screen when the household TV is unavailable.
- You already pay for Premium or also value its Game Catalog, Classics Catalog and trials.
- You have stable Wi-Fi and mainly play titles confirmed as eligible.
- You want to play supported digital PS5 purchases without downloading them to a console.
A weak fit
- You expect every PS5 purchase—or games on physical discs—to work.
- You need offline play, PS4 or PS3 streaming, or a full local handheld library.
- Your connection is unstable or suffers from high latency and congestion.
- You already own a PS5 and only need a second screen; Remote Play may meet that need without Premium.
- You rely on parties, system messaging, Share Play, Share Screen or broadcasting while playing.
For an existing Premium subscriber, Portal is a more compelling dedicated client because cloud and Remote Play sit in one interface. For a new buyer without a PS5, it can provide a curated way into selected PS5 games, but it is not a replacement for a PS5’s complete library. The deciding checks are your region, Premium cost, the eligibility of the games you care about and the quality of your home or travel connection.
The bottom line
PlayStation Portal is now a legitimate PS5 cloud-streaming client: selected games can run from Sony’s servers without a PS5. It remains a streaming-only device, requires PlayStation Plus Premium, excludes many titles and has social and sharing restrictions. Buy it for the dedicated hardware and an eligible catalog—not for the promise of streaming every PS5 game you own.
