Make a Burger in Grow a Garden by cooking 1 Pepper, 1 Corn, and 1 Tomato in the Cooking Pot or Cooking Kit. Start the recipe, follow the timer displayed by your current game version, and collect the Burger when cooking finishes.
Quick Burger recipe
The commonly reported starter combination is:
- 1 Pepper
- 1 Corn
- 1 Tomato
This combination is the practical first attempt when you want a Burger without spending rare crops. Put exactly those crops into the available cooking station and begin cooking.
Step-by-step: cooking the Burger
- Get the ingredients. Harvest or otherwise obtain one Pepper, one Corn, and one Tomato.
- Open the cooking station. Use the Cooking Pot or Cooking Kit on your plot, or the cooking station currently available in the event or game area.
- Add the crops. Place all three ingredients into the recipe slots.
- Start cooking. Confirm the recipe and watch the timer shown in your game.
- Collect the result. When the timer ends, claim the cooked food and check that it is a Burger.
How long does a Burger take to cook?
Use the live in-game timer as the authority. Published references disagree: the Grow a Garden Wiki lists a seven-minute base time (2026 crawl), another cooking-recipes guide reports about 10.5 minutes (2026 crawl), and Grow a Garden Box reports 10 minutes 32 seconds (2026 crawl).
| Reference | Reported time | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Grow a Garden Wiki (2026 crawl) | 7-minute base time | Version-dependent reference |
| Grow a Garden Cooking Recipes guide (2026 crawl) | Approximately 10.5 minutes | Version-dependent reference |
| Grow a Garden Box (2026 crawl) | 10 minutes 32 seconds | Version-dependent reference |
Updates, event settings, or recipe changes can account for the difference, so do not plan around an external number when the station displays a different countdown.

Why you might get Soup instead
Recipes can overlap, and random combinations commonly produce Soup. If the three crops do not return a Burger, open the Recipe Book and check Chris P.’s active craving before using more ingredients. The Recipe Book becomes useful after you have cooked a food at least once, helping you confirm known combinations rather than relying on random trials.
Ingredient roles and possible alternatives
The game’s food reference groups Burger ingredients into bread, meat, and leafy roles. These broader lists describe the recipe system, but they are alternatives for experimentation—not a replacement for the specific Pepper-Corn-Tomato starter recipe.

| Role | Reported crop options |
|---|---|
| Bread | Cauliflower, Corn, Banana, Violet Corn, Sugarglaze |
| Meat | Glowshroom, Bell Pepper, Cactus, Eggplant, Tall Asparagus, Mushroom, Pepper, Taco Fern, Venus Fly Trap, Ember Lily, Bone Blossom |
| Leafy | Artichoke, Onion, Jalapeno, Tomato, Avocado, Bamboo, Taro Flower, Bell Pepper, Pineapple, Grand Tomato, Sunflower |
Because several crops can fit more than one role and recipes overlap, substituting ingredients can change the result. Test alternatives only after checking the current Recipe Book and Chris P.’s craving.
How to pursue a higher-rarity Burger
Higher-rarity crops—and especially Bone Blossom—are reported as ways to pursue higher-rarity food, but community tables are not fully consistent across versions. Start with the Pepper-Corn-Tomato Burger, then verify the current higher-rarity combination in the Recipe Book and against Chris P.’s active craving before committing scarce crops. No specific rarity or reward is guaranteed without confirmation in the current game version.

What to do with a cooked Burger
A cooked Burger can serve several in-game purposes:
- Meet a crafting requirement that calls for cooked food.
- Restore a pet’s hunger.
- Sell it at the Sell Stand.
- Feed it to an NPC during a birthday event for rewards.
Reward amounts are not stable enough to state as a fixed payout, so check the current event or NPC screen for the value shown in your game.
Quick Recap
Choosing between a cheap starter and an upgrade attempt
| Approach | Ingredients | Crop risk | Rarity expectation | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter Burger | 1 Pepper + 1 Corn + 1 Tomato | Uses ordinary, targeted ingredients | Do not assume a higher rarity | First Burger, pet food, crafting, selling, or NPC feeding |
| Upgrade attempt | A Recipe Book combination using higher-rarity crops or Bone Blossom | Higher; may consume scarce crops | Possible, but version-sensitive and not guaranteed | Only after confirming the current recipe and craving |
Burger troubleshooting checklist
- Wrong food: Check the Recipe Book and Chris P.’s current craving; overlapping combinations can produce Soup.
- Timing looks different: Trust the countdown in your Cooking Pot or Cooking Kit rather than an older published estimate.
- Trying for rarity: Confirm the recipe in the current version before using Bone Blossom or another scarce crop.
- No Burger yet: Make sure all three starter ingredients were added before starting the cook cycle.
