Spoiler-free hints for Connections #575

Try these in order. Each hint reveals a little more, without giving away the complete groups.

  1. First hint: One group is about breathing hard; another is about broad or all-encompassing things.
  2. Stronger hint: Two groups use familiar expressions: one describes something easy, and one contains words for a rear end that have each lost their final letter.
  3. Word-level hint: Look for four ways to describe forceful breathing, four words that can mean broad or comprehensive, four expressions meaning easy, and four shortened rear-end synonyms.

Purple SYNONYMS FOR REAR END MINUS LAST LETTER ARS, BOOT, BUT, RUM

Why the purple group works

The purple category asks you to take a synonym for “rear end” and remove its last letter. ARSE becomes ARS, BOOTY becomes BOOT, BUTT becomes BUT, and RUMP becomes RUM. The resulting words are the four purple answers.
