There is no single best Bleed build in Elden Ring. The right setup depends on whether your weapon’s Arcane scaling actually raises Blood Loss, whether the target can suffer Hemorrhage, and how much range, speed, physical damage and survivability you want. For the current App and Regulation Version 1.17.1, use a DEX/ARC hybrid for flexible multi-hit weapons, ARC/Occult for weapons with innate Bleed, or a Strength-heavy Blood option such as Bloodfiend’s Arm. Keep reliable ordinary damage because some enemies and bosses are immune to Bleed.
What Bleed does—and what Arcane actually changes
Bleed attacks fill a hidden Blood Loss meter. When it fills, Hemorrhage triggers a burst partly based on the target’s maximum HP, then the meter resets; buildup can decay if you stop applying pressure. The effect is especially valuable against high-HP targets, but immunity means no build should rely on procs alone. Mobalytics’ Bleed guide explains the underlying behavior and weapon examples.
Arcane increases Bleed only when the weapon has Arcane scaling that applies to status buildup. Innate Bleed by itself is not enough. Blood affinity adds Bleed and Arcane scaling to compatible weapons, usually trading some base physical attack and changing other scaling. Occult adds Arcane scaling to physical damage and can improve existing innate Bleed, making it a natural choice for weapons that already have the status. Neither affinity is universally superior.
Choose a build path
Dexterity/Arcane: flexible hybrid
This route suits weapons whose physical damage benefits from Dexterity and Arcane, including Eleonora’s Poleblade and Rivers of Blood. A published level-150 template uses 60 Vigor, 25 Endurance, 50 Dexterity and 50 Arcane, with remaining points adjusted for weapon requirements. Treat those figures as a starting template rather than mandatory breakpoints: meet requirements, preserve Vigor, then invest where your selected weapon’s scaling pays off. The guide recommends Samurai as the starting class for this progression.

Arcane/Occult: maximize innate Bleed
Use this path when the weapon already has Bleed and can receive Occult affinity. The published level-150 example uses 60 Vigor, 25 Endurance, 20 Dexterity and 80 Arcane, with requirements and equipment load adjusted for the weapon. Bandit is the suggested starting class. Scavenger’s Curved Sword is a prominent candidate, particularly when powerstanced for repeated hits; Nagakiba offers longer reach and more customization. These are guide templates, not guarantees of the highest damage for every weapon.
Strength-heavy Blood: Bloodfiend’s Arm
Bloodfiend’s Arm is a distinct heavy-attack play style rather than a universal upgrade. It requires 28 Strength, 11 Dexterity and 16 Arcane. Blood affinity supplies status buildup while heavy attacks add a blood-splash effect, giving the weapon high damage and stance pressure at the cost of a slower rhythm and greater Strength investment. The listed requirements and behavior come from the guide’s weapon overview.

Weapons worth building around
| Weapon | Strength | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Reduvia | Early Arcane-scaling dagger; blood projectiles provide ranged pressure. | Short melee range; found near Murkwater Cave in Limgrave. |
| Uchigatana | Innate Bleed, changeable Ashes of War and affinities; Samurai begins with one. | Arcane value depends on the affinity and resulting scaling. |
| Bloodhound’s Fang | Strong early physical damage, innate Bleed, evasive skill and weapon-buff compatibility. | No Arcane scaling, so Arcane does not increase its innate Bleed; favor Dexterity. |
| Hookclaws | Fast paired attacks, innate Bleed and customization. | Very short range demands close pressure. |
| Morning Star | Innate Bleed, Strike damage and useful stance pressure. | Slower approach than rapid multi-hit weapons. |
| Eleonora’s Poleblade | DEX/ARC scaling, physical/fire damage, innate Bleed and multi-hit skill. | Needs hybrid investment and commitment to its skill. |
| Rivers of Blood | DEX/ARC katana centered on Corpse Piler. | Less flexible than a customizable Uchigatana or Nagakiba. |
| Nagakiba | Innate Bleed, exceptional reach and customizable skills/affinities. | Higher requirements than Uchigatana. |
| Scavenger’s Curved Sword | Innate Bleed, fast moveset and Occult compatibility. | Powerstance focus may not suit defensive spacing or one-weapon play. |
| Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear | Long Great Spear reach and Bloodboon Ritual area pressure. | Requires 27 Arcane and 24 Strength; obtained from Mohg’s Remembrance. |
| Bloody Helice | Long thrusts and an evasive skill for deliberate counterattacks. | Slower, more measured rhythm than rapid multi-hit setups. |

How to allocate stats without locking yourself into a bad build
- Pick the weapon first. Check its Strength and Dexterity requirements, innate status, affinity options and whether Arcane scaling applies to buildup.
- Reach requirements, then raise Vigor. The published level-150 examples use 60 Vigor; treat that as a survivability target, not a rule for every level or mode.
- Choose the affinity deliberately. Use Blood when you need to add Bleed to a compatible weapon; use Occult when an innate-Bleed weapon benefits more from Arcane physical scaling.
- Add Endurance for the moveset you actually use. Powerstancing, heavier armor and repeated skills can require more than the example 25 Endurance.
- Keep non-Bleed damage online. Physical, elemental or stance damage determines whether the build remains useful against immune targets.
Match the build to the fight
PvE versus PvP
Patch notes distinguish changes that apply only to PvP from those affecting both modes. Do not treat a PvP adjustment as evidence that a weapon performs identically in PvE. The official Patch 1.17 notes cover PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Steam: Bandai Namco’s Version 1.17 notes.

Enemy susceptibility
Against Bleed-immune targets, favor weapons with strong ordinary physical or elemental damage, stance pressure, reach or ranged skills. A fast proc-focused setup is not automatically the best answer when the meter can never fill.
Range and commitment
- Choose Reduvia for early ranged harassment, but accept dagger range in melee.
- Choose Nagakiba or Bloody Helice when spacing and reach matter.
- Choose curved swords, Hookclaws or Corpse Piler-style skills for repeated close hits.
- Choose Bloodfiend’s Arm when heavy attacks, stagger pressure and a slower tempo fit your timing.
Version 1.17.1 status
