The Intel models combined 12th-generation Core H-series processors, GeForce RTX 3050-class graphics, 16GB of DDR5 memory and a 16-inch 2560×1600 165Hz display. Chinese launch pricing started at ¥6,299, with full-channel sales scheduled for July 27, 2022. A Ryzen 5 6600H edition followed in September. This is a historical China-market launch, not a newly released 2026 laptop or a product with a verified U.S. MSRP.
What Xiaomi announced
Redmi, Xiaomi’s consumer brand, introduced the Redmi G 2022 as a family of gaming laptops rather than one fixed configuration. The Intel version entered Chinese pre-sale on July 21, 2022, and was due to reach full-channel sales at midnight on July 27. Xiaomi later announced a separate Ryzen edition on September 16.
The official product page remains available at Xiaomi’s Redmi G 2022 product page, but an official U.S. launch, U.S. price or current regional availability is not established.
Intel models and Chinese launch prices

These prices were reported for the July 2022 Chinese launch, not as current prices or U.S. equivalents. The i5-12450H and i7-12650H also should not be confused with the higher-core-count Core i5-12500H and i7-12700H. Launch coverage specifically noted that the Redmi configurations had fewer efficiency cores than those alternatives (IT之家 configuration and pricing report).

The baseline memory and storage details for the Intel models come from IT之家’s launch report. A second storage slot was reported, but the available material does not establish that the RAM or SSD is user-upgradable in every regional configuration.
Display: unusually ambitious on paper
The panel was one of the Redmi G 2022’s strongest selling points for its period: a 16:10 2560×1600 resolution, 165Hz refresh rate and quoted 3ms response time. Xiaomi’s launch specifications also listed up to 500 nits brightness, 10-bit color, 100% sRGB coverage, Delta E below 1.5, about 91% screen-to-body ratio, G-Sync support and TÜV Rheinland low-blue-light certification.

The Ryzen announcement additionally cited HDR 400 and 1.07 billion colors (Ryzen-edition report). These are manufacturer or launch specifications, not independent measurements of brightness uniformity, ghosting, color accuracy or HDR behavior.
What RTX 3050-class graphics mean for gaming
RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti laptop GPUs were entry-level to lower-midrange gaming parts even in 2022. They support hardware ray tracing and DLSS, and Xiaomi advertised a direct-discrete-GPU output mode, but the available launch material contains no standardized benchmarks for this laptop.

- Esports and older games are the most realistic targets for high refresh rates.
- Many demanding games may require reduced settings, a lower render resolution or DLSS rather than native 2560×1600 at maximum quality.
- Actual results vary with GPU power limits, cooling, drivers and the game itself, so the 165Hz panel should not be read as a promise that every title can feed 165 frames per second.
Ports, wireless and physical design
Reported Intel-model connectivity included Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1, Mini DisplayPort 1.4, an SD card reader, USB-A ports, wired Ethernet and a combined headphone/microphone jack. The machine was described as having a “warship gray” finish, a metal A-cover, a full-size keyboard with three-level backlighting and Xiaomi’s Hurricane Cooling 3.0 system. Wi-Fi 6 was also listed (Intel launch specifications).
The Ryzen model’s reported layout was different: full-function USB-C with up to 100W USB Power Delivery, three USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, one USB-A 2.0 port, Mini DisplayPort 1.4, 2.5Gb Ethernet, HDMI 2.1, SD card slot, DC input, a 3.5mm audio jack and Wi-Fi 6. Xiaomi described that edition as using a new metal-A-cover chassis mold and an updated Hurricane cooling system (Ryzen-edition specifications). Do not assume Thunderbolt 4 or an identical port arrangement on the AMD version.

Cooling-system names and chassis materials describe the design Xiaomi advertised; they do not prove particular temperatures, fan noise, sustained clock speeds or long-term durability without testing.

The later standard Redmi G model used an AMD Ryzen 5 6600H with an RTX 3050. Its introductory Chinese price was ¥6,299, compared with a reported regular price of ¥7,299. It retained the 16-inch 2560×1600 165Hz display and added the AMD-specific port configuration above.

This standard Ryzen machine should not be merged with the separately mentioned Redmi G Pro Ryzen line, which occupied a higher position in Xiaomi’s range.
Availability outside China
The documented launch was for China. No supplied source verifies broad official U.S. distribution, a U.S. MSRP or current official stock. An imported unit can also involve a Chinese keyboard layout, Chinese Windows installation or localization work, incompatible power plugs, limited local warranty coverage, customs costs and difficult returns. The existence of an accessible product page does not prove that new inventory or warranty service is available in 2026.
Should you buy one now?
In 2026, the Redmi G 2022 makes sense mainly as discounted old stock, a used laptop or a carefully checked import. Judge the individual listing rather than the historical ¥6,299 headline price.
- Confirm the exact CPU and GPU: i5-12450H/RTX 3050, i7-12650H/RTX 3050, i7-12650H/RTX 3050 Ti or Ryzen 5 6600H/RTX 3050.
- Check battery health, charger and plug type, keyboard layout, operating-system language and warranty terms.
- Ask for the GPU power limit and cooling condition; RTX 3050-class performance differs substantially between laptop implementations.
- Verify the return policy and test the display, ports, storage and wireless hardware.
- Budget for more storage if 512GB is too small for your game library, and verify the exact model before buying an internal SSD.
A newer gaming laptop is generally the safer choice when you need current driver support, stronger graphics performance and a standard regional warranty. Compare total price and GPU tier, not the Redmi’s 165Hz specification alone.
Verdict
The Redmi G 2022 was notable in China for pairing a premium-looking 16-inch 1600p/165Hz display and modern 2022 platform features with RTX 3050-class graphics at an aggressive launch price. Its limitations were equally clear: midrange GPU headroom at the native resolution, relatively leaner Intel CPU configurations, only 512GB of baseline storage and substantial import risk. Today it is a historical model whose value depends on a genuinely low asking price and the condition, configuration and support attached to the specific unit.
