The app has since evolved: its current Windows desktop companion adds features beyond that original release and runs through Overwolf. Here’s what the 2021 update changed, what players can use today, and how to decide whether a companion app fits your setup.
What Mobalytics announced in June 2021
The June 3, 2021 announcement described a substantial rebuild, not just a visual refresh. Mobalytics aimed to connect champion information, player profiles, its Live Companion, performance analysis and progress tracking in a more unified product. The company’s stated goal was to make League data useful for a player’s next decision, rather than leaving them to interpret a screen of disconnected statistics. GamesBeat’s announcement coverage reported the update’s emphasis on speed, quality, stability and recommendations.
The rebuilt experience was organized around information before, during and after a match. Mobalytics also upgraded the Live Companion, added ARAM support, and integrated Progress Tracking with its Gamer Performance Index (GPI). The announcement said some older features—including the dashboard, progress analysis and player comparison—would be removed or replaced as the product changed, so returning users should not expect every old screen or label to remain.
How the companion fits into a match
Before the match
At the 2021 launch, the broader product connected players with champion and player information and aimed to surface relevant guidance ahead of a game. The current app goes further: Mobalytics now advertises automatic build and rune recommendations with one-click importing, matchup tips, and champion and opponent scouting. These are current capabilities, not a list of features confirmed in the 2021 announcement.

During the match
The 2021 Live Companion was presented as an upgraded in-game assistant, with an overlay, insights and notifications, better speed and stability, and support for ARAM. Mobalytics’ current feature set also lists jungle timers, live CS and gold-lead information, player scouting, game-state updates, power-spike notifications and in-game goals or challenges. Automatic highlight detection is another current advertised feature; it should not be read as evidence that every listed function was part of the 2021 rebuild.
After the match
Progress Tracking and performance analysis were central to the 2021 product direction. Today, Mobalytics lists automatic post-game reports, detailed statistics, performance rankings, LP tracking and highlight review among the app’s features. Its current League companion page describes the present-day feature set.

What the Gamer Performance Index is meant to show
The GPI is Mobalytics’ framework for looking at performance across multiple categories and presenting strengths, weaknesses and suggestions, rather than treating one number as a complete measure of skill. In the 2021 coverage, the company’s founders stressed that League statistics need context. A strong K/D/A, for example, does not by itself establish good farming, vision, map decisions or team play.
Context matters because the job of a jungler, support and solo laner differs, and the meaning of a stat can shift with champion, matchup, rank, team composition and game state. A single match is also a poor basis for judging a lasting strength or weakness. Treat GPI categories and app recommendations as prompts for reviewing patterns across games—not as a definitive score of a player’s ability.

The practical distinction is between data and guidance: match history and statistics describe what happened; performance interpretation tries to identify a pattern; a recommendation suggests something to try next. Mobalytics provides data-driven guidance, not a human coach or a guarantee of improvement. The available product information does not establish that using the app causes a higher win rate.
What the current app offers—and who it suits
Mobalytics’ current League companion is pitched as a connected workflow for preparation, live information and review. It may suit players who want automatic build and rune imports, matchup preparation, overlay information without frequent alt-tabbing, or performance prompts across multiple games. It can also be useful to newer or returning players who want suggestions alongside their match data.

Those conveniences have trade-offs. A build that is popular in the data is not necessarily right for every matchup, team composition or playstyle. Advice can be less applicable after a major champion or item change, when a player is testing an off-meta approach, or when the player’s situation differs from the population behind the recommendation. Copying a build without understanding why it fits can obscure the decision-making a player is trying to learn.
- Consider a companion if you value automatic imports, live reminders and a single place to review games.
- Skip or limit the overlay if prompts distract you, you prefer learning without automated guidance, or you want to minimize background software.
- Try a website instead if you mainly need builds, matchup data, patch information or match history and do not want a desktop installation.
Download, platform and the move from the older app
Mobalytics describes its current League app as free to download and use. That applies to the app as described on its current League download page; it does not establish that every Mobalytics service or optional feature is free. The page presents a Windows desktop setup using Overwolf, so it is not a browser-only tool and may not fit players on unsupported operating systems or those who avoid that framework.

- Download and install the desktop companion. Mobalytics says the app uses Overwolf.
- Start a League match; according to Mobalytics’ setup description, the companion appears automatically when a match begins.
If you still use the older Electron app, Mobalytics says it no longer receives new features and directs users to the newer Overwolf-based companion. Its desktop upgrade page describes the newer version as bringing improved performance, fewer crashes, a summoner-spell timer, a gold-to-item tracker and a reworked build experience. Those are product claims, not a guarantee that the app will run without performance issues on every computer.

Mobalytics says its current League overlay is designed to comply with Riot’s Terms of Service and Vanguard requirements. That is the company’s statement about its application, not an independent guarantee about every third-party tool or a promise that rules will never change. Review Riot’s current third-party-app rules before installing an overlay, and distinguish game-policy compliance from broader questions such as privacy or account security.
The app can add a background process and an overlay while League is running. If you notice frame drops, stuttering, delayed inputs or a conflict with another overlay, try disabling the companion and comparing how the game behaves, then check the app’s current support guidance. These are sensible troubleshooting checks for desktop overlays, not claims that Mobalytics necessarily causes those symptoms. Review Mobalytics’ current privacy and account-permission disclosures before connecting an account; the product pages cited here do not establish a complete account of data retention or other privacy practices.

The useful dividing line is not which companion promises the best results; it is whether you want coaching-style interpretation, a wide set of data and timers, a build-focused overlay, or no desktop companion at all.
What the 2021 update means now
The June 2021 rebuild marked a shift from presenting League statistics toward connecting data with recommendations and a match-to-match improvement workflow. Mobalytics’ current Overwolf-based app continues that approach, but it is a later product state with a different app framework and additional advertised features. Players evaluating it today should judge the current download, compatibility and feature descriptions—not assume that a 2021 announcement describes the app they will install.
