Wevr announced on June 5, 2024, that HTC Corp. and Epic Games had provided $3.5 million in additional investment. The money was intended to expand Wevr’s Virtual Studio cloud tooling and its production of real-time 3D, interactive and spatial experiences. This was a follow-on investment from existing backers—not a newly announced 2026 round, consumer headset or standalone game launch.
What Wevr raised and what remains undisclosed
Wevr’s June 5, 2024 announcement described an additional $3.5 million investment from HTC Corp. and Epic Games, both previous supporters. Wevr’s later funding page also dates the transaction to June 5, 2024 (Wevr). GamesBeat reported the amount, investor statements and planned use of the capital (GamesBeat).
The available announcements do not disclose a valuation, security type, ownership percentage, board rights, tranche schedule or detailed allocation of proceeds. They also do not establish a commercial distribution agreement, exclusivity arrangement or acquisition. “Additional investment” is therefore more precise than assigning the deal a specific Series label.
GamesBeat’s page was updated on June 18, 2025, but the underlying financing announcement is from 2024. Wevr’s own retrospective funding page, published in December 2025, likewise looks back to that transaction. As of 2026, this is historical financing news rather than a newly verified current raise.

What Wevr’s business actually is
Wevr is not simply a conventional game publisher. It is an interactive software studio and creative-production company with platform capabilities. Its work combines:
- VR and XR experiences
- Interactive real-time 3D and spatial applications
- Immersive video and simulations
- Brand and entertainment collaborations
- Development and production tools for shipping interactive projects
The model is hybrid. Wevr undertakes specific productions for brands, entertainment companies and other partners while developing internal tooling that can make those productions easier to build, operate and deploy. GamesBeat reported that the company expected its business to remain primarily tied to particular immersive-content productions rather than functioning as a pure software-subscription company.
Virtual Studio: the platform behind the investment
Virtual Studio is described as a cloud-based development and production platform. Its main role is to provide DevOps automation and related workflow tools for game developers and real-time 3D teams.
Content production
Wevr’s studio creates interactive experiences for brands, IP owners and entertainment partners. That work includes design, engineering, art, technical production and deployment across different devices and venues.

Development tooling
Virtual Studio supports the technical work behind those projects: managing production workflows, automating parts of development and helping teams operate interactive builds. The sources do not establish it as a general-purpose consumer creation app or a self-serve SaaS product with public plans.

Unreal Engine integration
Wevr uses Unreal Engine as a core part of its workflow. GamesBeat reported that Virtual Studio had been updated for Unreal Engine 5.4 at the time of the 2024 announcement. That version reference is historical and should not be read as a statement about Wevr’s current 2026 compatibility.
Why HTC and Epic invested
The investors bring different strategic interests to the relationship.
| Investor | Strategic connection | What was said |
|---|---|---|
| HTC Corp. | VIVE hardware, premium XR and the broader device ecosystem | CEO Cher Wang characterized Wevr as a creative XR company with strong technology capabilities. |
| Epic Games | Unreal Engine and real-time 3D development infrastructure | CTO Kim Libreri pointed to Wevr’s Unreal Engine experience and potential in next-generation spatial experiences. |
Those comments are investor assessments, not independent measurements of market leadership. The strategic fit is nevertheless clear: Wevr supplies specialist creative and technical production, while HTC and Epic have reasons to encourage more high-quality content built for XR hardware and real-time 3D workflows.
Wevr’s track record
The investment followed a history spanning consumer VR, branded entertainment and location-based work. Notable examples include:
- theBlu, an underwater VR experience that helped establish Wevr’s early reputation.
- Gnomes & Goblins, created with Jon Favreau.
- Harry Potter VR, produced with Warner Bros.
- Brand experiences involving Google, Samsung and Universal.
- Projects connected with Deepak Chopra, Run the Jewels and other cultural or entertainment figures.
- Location-based VR work associated with Dreamscape.
These projects demonstrate experience across original immersive storytelling, licensed properties, marketing work and out-of-home installations. They are credentials for the company’s capabilities, not projects identified as being financed by the 2024 investment.

Where Wevr planned to use the money
More production capacity
Wevr planned to expand its ability to deliver real-time 3D and spatial productions for brands, entertainment companies and game developers. In June 2024, GamesBeat described a core group of about six executives, with additional production staff added for individual projects. Some upcoming projects were expected to require more than 50 people; that was a project-staffing estimate, not a promise of 50 permanent jobs.
Virtual Studio development
Capital was also intended to advance the cloud-based Virtual Studio platform and its DevOps automation, allowing Wevr to support more complex productions and improve repeatability across projects.
Business development
Tim Dillon joined Wevr as executive vice president of business development. His background included interactive and immersive media, experiential technology and emerging technologies, with previous work associated with Media Monks and Moving Picture Company. The appointment fits Wevr’s stated aim of signing more brands and IP owners.
Which platforms were in scope
2024 coverage said Wevr was developing spatial products for Apple Vision Pro, HTC Vive, Meta Quest and other devices and screen formats (GamesBeat). That describes the company’s reported platform scope at the time, not a guarantee that every product shipped on every device or that the list remains its complete 2026 compatibility matrix.
Supporting several ecosystems can broaden commercial opportunities but increases engineering work. Teams may need to adapt tracking, input, rendering performance, passthrough and mixed-reality features, comfort constraints, interaction design, store requirements and distribution processes. The announcement did not provide a porting plan, performance targets or feature-parity table.

Studio services versus platform scalability
Project-based production can bring nearer-term revenue from brands and IP owners, but it is labor-intensive and depends on winning and delivering individual engagements. Reusable cloud tooling could improve efficiency and scale if outside teams adopt it, yet that requires continued product investment and developer demand.

The sources provide no revenue, bookings, customer count, active Virtual Studio users, retention data or pipeline value, so the investment cannot by itself establish platform traction.
Brand work and original IP
Brand and licensed-IP projects can provide financing, distribution and audience recognition, while also bringing approval cycles, licensing limits and creative constraints. Original IP gives Wevr more control but carries greater financing and market risk.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the deal says about the XR market—and what it does not
Wevr argued that newer headsets, more capable real-time 3D tools and growing interest from brands and IP owners were opening opportunities across online, out-of-home and game-based experiences. The $3.5 million investment shows that HTC and Epic considered Wevr strategically useful in creative production, technical infrastructure and the commercial bridge between IP owners and XR.
It does not prove that XR has reached mass adoption. Fragmented hardware, expensive content production, limited installed bases, uncertain consumer demand and different platform rules remain substantial constraints. Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest and HTC Vive also serve different price, audience and interaction requirements; support for all three does not imply equal reach or commercial success.

How this compares with earlier financing
Road to VR, citing Crunchbase, reported that the investment brought Wevr’s lifetime funding to roughly $42.3 million and included a reported $25 million Series B in February 2016 (Road to VR). That $42.3 million figure is a third-party database estimate, not an audited or company-confirmed total.
The 2024 announcement itself does not establish how the new money changed ownership, valuation or governance.
Practical implications for developers and buyers
Teams evaluating a production partner
Wevr is most relevant to brands, studios and IP owners seeking specialist help with spatial content, interactive real-time 3D, immersive storytelling or location-based experiences. Public sources do not provide a Virtual Studio price list, plan structure or confirmed self-serve signup path.
Teams choosing an ecosystem
- Unreal Engine is the relevant real-time 3D foundation; licensing depends on usage and sector, so consult Epic’s licensing terms.
- Apple-targeted teams can consult the official visionOS developer resources and Xcode.
- Consumer VR teams can review Meta Quest developer resources.
- Enterprise, premium PC-connected and location-based projects can examine VIVE developer resources and the VIVE ecosystem.
Current hardware prices, store fees and distribution requirements are separate questions and should be checked on each platform’s current official documentation.

Wevr’s $3.5 million financing was a June 2024 follow-on investment from HTC and Epic Games, aimed at combining a specialist XR production studio with cloud-based Virtual Studio tooling. It was a strategic bet on the infrastructure and creative labor needed to make spatial computing useful to brands, entertainment companies and game developers—not evidence of a new consumer product, an acquisition or a mass-market XR breakthrough.
