The Cooler Master MM711 is still a capable, exceptionally light wired gaming mouse, and its PMW3389 sensor, flexible cable and smooth feet remain suitable for FPS play. Its real test is fit: the compact shell suits many small- and medium-handed claw or fingertip players, but can crowd larger hands. Consider it when it is substantially cheaper than newer alternatives and you specifically want its small, perforated shape—not if you need wireless, a sealed shell or Mac-friendly configuration software.
What the MM711 is—and who should consider it
The MM711 is the RGB-equipped sibling of Cooler Master’s lightweight MM710. Both use a compact, symmetrical shell concept; the MM711 adds lighting and a slightly different internal arrangement. The shape is symmetrical, but the two side buttons are on the left, so the controls are arranged for right-handed use. APH Networks discusses the distinction between the shell and button layout.
It makes most sense for someone who wants a lightweight wired mouse for FPS games, prefers a compact body, and is comfortable with a perforated shell. The strongest likely fit is a small or medium hand using claw or fingertip grip. Palm grip can work for people who like compact mice, while a larger-handed fingertip player may also find it usable; dimensions alone cannot predict comfort. RTINGS’ guidance likewise favors small and medium hands with claw or palm grip, with larger hands potentially suited to fingertip grip. RTINGS’ MM711 review provides its independent assessment.
Do not buy it for the maximum DPI figure or RGB alone. Shape, click feel, cable behavior and the condition of the particular unit matter more to everyday use.

Specifications are listed on Cooler Master’s MM711 product page. The 20-million-click figure is a manufacturer rating, not a promise that switches will last that long or a guarantee against double-clicking.
Shape and comfort are the deciding factors
The shell is compact and symmetrical, with a noticeable rear hump. That combination can give a claw grip a clear point of contact while leaving room to make small fingertip adjustments. The low weight also helps with repeated lifting and repositioning in games that call for broad, low-sensitivity swipes.
The trade-off is limited room. Larger hands may find the body cramped, and ring-finger contact with the right edge can vary with hand size and grip. Side buttons are reachable from a right-handed grip, but their placement does not make this a fully left-handed mouse. If possible, try the shape with your hand relaxed: wrist tension, finger crowding or inconsistent aim are better reasons to reject it than any sensor specification is to buy it.
Perforated shell: lighter, but less protected
The honeycomb openings help keep the mouse under 60 g and give it a distinctive look. The open structure also allows dust and crumbs inside, takes more care to clean than a solid shell, and offers less protection from spills. Some people dislike the feel of exposed openings under their fingers.

Build assessments are not uniform. RTINGS found its test unit sturdy, while other coverage has described wobble, creaking or button concerns on some units. Those reports are reasons to inspect the individual mouse, not evidence that every MM711 is defective. See RTINGS’ tested-unit assessment and MMORPG.com’s review.
Gaming performance: still capable, not a modern feature leader
The PMW3389 is more than adequate for ordinary competitive play. The 16,000 CPI maximum is a specification ceiling, not a useful target for most players; tracking consistency and a comfortable in-game sensitivity matter more. The MM711 polls at 1000 Hz, and its sensor, weight and basic performance do not make it an obvious bottleneck for FPS gaming.
RTINGS reports low click latency, a very low lift-off distance and smooth-gliding feet. Those qualities support quick aim corrections and lift-and-reposition movements, though no single test result can make the mouse comfortable if its shape does not suit you. Cooler Master specifies PTFE feet; on a used unit, wear or damage can make glide rough despite the original material.
The mouse has six buttons, Omron-rated main switches and a scroll wheel, but no numerical latency result or quantified switch-force measurement is provided in the cited reviews or manufacturer specifications. Treat the 20-million-click rating as a component specification, not a substitute for checking the clicks and wheel on the actual unit. The mechanical switches can still develop inconsistent actuation or double-clicking.

- Hybrid Wireless Tech: Choose from wired mode, 2.4GHz wireless, or Bluetooth 5.1 to connect multiple devices
- Seamless Lightweight Design: Honeycomb shell housing has been upgraded to a seamless chassis with ambidextrous shape that still keeps the total weight at 59g
- Gaming-Grade Hardware: Pro-grade sensor adjustable up to 19,000 DPI, and optical micro switches rated for 70 million clicks and near-instantaneous input time
- Ultraweave Cable: Super lightweight and engineered in-house to prevent cable snag when swiping and unnecessary cable drag when in battle
- Pure PTFE Mouse Feet for Superior Glide: New-and-improved feet made with PTFE material for low friction and high durability provides a smooth, fast glide without cable pull
Cable and feet
The fixed 1.8 m Ultraweave cable is one of the MM711’s practical strengths: independent reviews describe it as flexible, which can reduce snagging and drag. WePC’s review also discusses the cable. A bungee can further limit cable movement, but cannot make the cable detachable; replacement is less convenient than with a mouse using a removable lead.
For a used or old-stock mouse, inspect the braid for kinks, fraying or exposed sections. Move the cable gently near the mouse and USB connector while checking for disconnects or tracking interruptions. The PTFE feet should sit evenly against the surface: scratches, missing material, adhesive residue or uneven wear can impair glide.
MasterPlus+ and hardware controls
Cooler Master lists MasterPlus+ support and recommends downloading the software and updating firmware for optimal use. Configuration support includes features such as button assignment, CPI settings, polling rate, lift-off distance, lighting and profiles; RTINGS reports that the software is Windows-only. A Mac user can still use the mouse for basic pointer and button operation, but should not assume advanced configuration or firmware updating will be available there. Cooler Master’s product page lists the software support, and RTINGS notes the operating-system limitation.
The manufacturer lists seven selectable hardware CPI levels. RTINGS notes that adjustment in its tested configuration is limited to 100-CPI increments. The evidence here does not establish a current MasterPlus+ menu path, exact button sequence for cycling levels, or the full persistence behavior of onboard profiles, so those details should not be assumed. If precise remapping, RGB control or firmware access matters, confirm that the current software detects the mouse on a supported Windows system before relying on it.

- Lightweight, Ambidextrous Design: Optimized for right-handers with two side buttons and weighs in at 50g without exterior holes that compromise on aesthetics
- Gaming Grade Sensor: Adapt to your game or playstyle with optical sensor adjustable up to 12,000 DPI
- RGB Illumination: Give your victories some flashy good looks with lighting on the logo and the scroll wheel
- Ultraweave Cable: Super lightweight and engineered in-house to prevent cable snag when swiping
- Upgraded Mouse Feet: New-and-improved feet made with PTFE material for low friction and high durability, which provides a smooth, fast glide with maximum responsiveness
RGB is a bonus, not a reason to buy
Cooler Master lists lighting on the wheel and logo/palm area. It adds visual character but does not improve tracking or response. RTINGS observed incorrect or missing colors in a lighting zone on its test unit; treat that as a reported sample issue, not proof of a universal fault. Cycle colors and zones if inspecting a used mouse.
MM711 vs. MM712
The MM712 is the closest comparison because Cooler Master lists the same footprint while replacing the perforated exterior with a solid shell and adding wireless modes. The MM711’s case is strongest when its exact shape and lower purchase cost matter more than those newer conveniences.
| Feature | MM711 | MM712 |
|---|---|---|
| Shell | Perforated | Solid, hole-free |
| Connectivity | Wired | Wired, 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth 5.1 |
| Cable | Fixed 1.8 m Ultraweave | Detachable Ultraweave USB-C cable |
| Weight | Under 60 g without cable, per Cooler Master | Under 58 g on Cooler Master’s current global page; a legacy page describes a 59 g total-weight design |
| Switches | Omron mechanical, rated for 20 million clicks | Optical micro switches, per Cooler Master |
| Published dimensions | 116.5 × 62.4 × 38.3 mm | 116.5 × 62.4 × 38.3 mm |
| Likely fit | Buyer seeking a compact, lightweight wired mouse with open shell | Buyer wanting a similar footprint with wireless modes and a closed shell |
The MM712’s weight description differs between Cooler Master’s current global page and its legacy page, so the figures above are attributed to those pages rather than treated as directly interchangeable. Compare Cooler Master’s current MM712 page and its legacy MM712 page.

What to check before buying an older or used MM711
Because this is an older design, condition and seller terms matter alongside the spec sheet. If buying in person, request a test; for an online purchase, favor a seller with a clear return window. Check:
- All six buttons, including repeated left- and right-clicks, for missed or duplicated input.
- Main-button movement, side-button rattle, scroll notches in both directions, and middle click.
- Shell creaks under normal grip pressure; do not crush or flex it aggressively.
- Cable braid and connector for damage, and whether gentle cable movement interrupts operation.
- Consistent sensor tracking, intact feet and smooth glide.
- RGB zones and colors if lighting matters to you.
- Debris inside the shell, exact model and color, included accessories, warranty eligibility and return rights.
For current stock, firmware support, warranty coverage and replacement parts, verify the specific seller and region rather than assuming that an old listing reflects present availability.
Final recommendation
The MM711 remains a competent lightweight FPS mouse, but its small perforated shell and wired-only design make it a specific preference rather than an automatic bargain. Buy it when its shape suits your hand and its price is clearly below a comparable MM712 or a newer mouse that better meets your needs. If the price gap is modest, or you want wireless, a sealed shell or broader software compatibility, choose a different model.
