Error 315306 does not prove that you never bought Diablo IV. It can reflect a temporary login or authentication problem, the wrong account, a platform-store entitlement issue, or game-sharing restrictions. First check for a service notice, then follow the steps for the platform where you bought the game. Don’t buy Platinum or repeatedly reinstall as a first response.
What error 315306 means
Diablo IV checks that the account and platform launching the game have the required entitlement. Which account matters depends on where you play: Battle.net on its PC version, Steam ownership and its linked Battle.net account on Steam, or the PlayStation Network or Microsoft account that owns the console copy. A secondary profile or game-sharing setup can add another entitlement check.

The message alone does not establish that your purchase is missing. Blizzard has documented historical cases involving temporary authentication problems, PlayStation licensing reports, and Xbox game sharing. Those explanations describe specific incidents and cases, not a universal cause for every current error. See Blizzard’s historical 315306 discussion, its PlayStation licensing notice, and its account and Xbox game-sharing guidance.
Check for a service problem first
Before changing accounts or reinstalling, look for a notice in the Battle.net launcher and check the Blizzard Diablo IV support hub and official Diablo IV forum announcements. Check whether other players on your platform are reporting the same error. Simultaneous reports across platforms point more toward a service-side authentication problem than a damaged local installation, although they do not identify the cause by themselves.

- Diablo IV is the next-gen action RPG experience with endless evil to slaughter, countless abilities to master, nightmarish Dungeons, and legendary loot.
- Embark on the campaign solo or with friends, meeting memorable characters through beautifully dark settings and a gripping story, or explore an expansive end game and shared world where players can meet in towns to trade, team up to battle World Bosses, or descend into PVP zones to test their skills against other players - no lobbies necessary - with cross-play and cross-progression on all available platforms.
If the error appeared during a queue, maintenance, launch, or update period, close the game and wait before trying again. During a 2023 beta incident, a Blizzard representative described 315306 as being used to throttle queues during server-performance problems and advised waiting 5–10 minutes. That was historical guidance for that incident, not a guaranteed fix for later errors. Read Blizzard’s forum response.
Quick checks for any platform
- Fully quit Diablo IV. Exit Battle.net or Steam rather than leaving it minimized; on console, quit the game from the system menu.
- Restart your PC or console and confirm it can connect to the internet and its platform service.
- Check that you are signed into the account that purchased the game, or the account authorized to use that purchase through the platform’s sharing rules.
- Launch Diablo IV from the platform where you bought it, and install any pending game or platform updates.
- If there is a service disruption or queue, pause briefly and retry rather than repeatedly reinstalling.
Do not unlink and relink accounts as a general troubleshooting step. If the purchase is confirmed but the error remains, use the platform-specific checks below.
PC: Battle.net version
Verify the account and purchase
- Open the Battle.net app and check the account name and email. If either is not the account you used to buy Diablo IV, sign out and back in to the correct account.
- Check whether Diablo IV appears in the account’s Games & Subscriptions area.
- Review Transaction History for the purchase and any refund, failed payment, chargeback, or edition upgrade that could affect the entitlement.
Blizzard’s account guidance specifically points Windows players to these checks. If the game or transaction is missing, contact Blizzard rather than assuming a reinstall will restore ownership. Blizzard account and transaction guidance.
Test the Battle.net region setting
Blizzard’s PC license-error support article has directed players to test the app region. Sign out of Battle.net, select the gear or settings icon on the login screen, choose the appropriate region shown in your app, then sign in and try the game. Treat this as a troubleshooting test: changing the app region does not transfer ownership or bypass regional licensing restrictions. Labels may vary by app version.

Update or repair the client
- Select Diablo IV in Battle.net and choose Check for Updates.
- If the option is available, run Scan and Repair.
- When it finishes, restart Battle.net and try launching the game again.
This can address an incomplete update, but cannot create a missing entitlement or resolve a service-side authentication failure. Blizzard’s historical discussion includes reports that Scan and Repair did not resolve the error during an incident. Historical incident discussion.

PC: Steam version
- Confirm that the signed-in Steam account owns Diablo IV; a Battle.net purchase does not automatically grant the Steam version.
- Launch Diablo IV from Steam, not an unrelated shortcut, and let its Battle.net sign-in or account-linking flow finish.
- Check that the Battle.net account linked in that flow is the one you intend to use.
- In Steam, use the game’s properties to verify its installed files, then restart Steam and Battle.net and try again.
If Steam does not show the purchase, contact Steam about the store entitlement. If Steam ownership is present but the Battle.net account or linking flow is the problem, contact Blizzard. Do not repeatedly unlink accounts in an attempt to make an entitlement transfer.
PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
Check the purchasing PSN account
Sign into the PlayStation Network account that bought Diablo IV. Check its game library or store transaction history for the purchase. If you are playing from another profile, confirm that the console’s sharing settings allow that profile to use the game, then test from the purchasing profile.
Refresh licenses and update the console
Use the console’s current Restore Licenses setting; the menu path can differ by PS4/PS5 system software. Then install pending Diablo IV and system updates, fully shut down and restart the console, and launch from the owning profile. License restoration can refresh local entitlement information, but cannot fix a purchase on a different PSN account, a failed or refunded transaction, a mismatched Battle.net link, or a Blizzard authentication outage.

Blizzard acknowledged invalid-license reports on PlayStation during the 2023 launch period. Community reports also describe errors after changing the Battle.net account linked to a PlayStation account. These are historical reports, not proof that either issue explains every case. If the error began after a link change, stop unlinking and relinking; gather account and purchase details and contact support. Blizzard’s PlayStation notice and a community account-link report.
Do not buy Platinum or another add-on to repair 315306. Some players reported that buying Platinum temporarily coincided with a successful license check during a 2023 incident, but this was an anecdotal workaround, not an official or dependable fix. It can charge you for an unrelated item. User workaround report; another historical report.

Confirm the Microsoft account owns the game
Sign into the Xbox profile that purchased Diablo IV and check Microsoft Store order history. Confirm the purchase is present and install pending game or console updates. If you are using a secondary profile, test from the purchasing profile first.
Check Home Xbox and game sharing
If you play from another profile or console, review the purchasing account’s current Home Xbox and sharing configuration. Temporarily test without relying on game sharing to determine whether the purchase is recognized directly by the owner’s profile. Blizzard has identified game sharing as a typical cause in some Xbox cases, but it is not the cause of every 315306 error. For store purchase-history problems, Blizzard directs console users to Microsoft because Blizzard cannot access console purchase records. Blizzard’s guidance.
Restart the console before reinstalling
Quit Diablo IV completely, restart the Xbox, then sign out and back into the purchasing profile. Reinstall only after confirming ownership and trying updates and a restart. Avoid deleting local saved data as a routine license fix; the error concerns entitlement or authentication, and deleting data can create separate problems.
Why common “fixes” are unreliable
- Buying Platinum: Based on anecdotal reports from a historical PlayStation incident; it is not an official fix and may simply cost money.
- Reinstalling repeatedly: May replace damaged or incomplete client files, but cannot correct a missing store purchase or server-side authentication failure.
- Changing your password: Relevant only if you have evidence of an account-access problem; it does not refresh a platform purchase by itself.
- Unlinking and relinking Battle.net: Can complicate an account-link issue. A user report links a PlayStation error to a changed Battle.net connection, so do not keep switching accounts without support guidance. Account-link report.
- Assuming cross-progression means cross-platform ownership: Battle.net account services and platform store entitlements are distinct. Do not assume a purchase on one platform licenses the game on another.
When to contact support
Use Blizzard support when the Battle.net PC entitlement is absent or the account authentication/linking problem is Blizzard-side. Contact PlayStation or Xbox support when their store purchase history, console profile sharing, or platform entitlement is the issue. For Steam, start with Steam if its account does not show ownership; contact Blizzard for a Battle.net sign-in or linked-account issue. The Blizzard Diablo IV support hub is the starting point for Blizzard-side help.
Include the details that let support distinguish ownership from authentication:
- Platform and console model or PC launcher (Battle.net or Steam).
- BattleTag and, where relevant, PSN ID or Xbox gamertag.
- Exact error text and code, plus when it began.
- Purchase receipt or order number and purchase date.
- Whether another profile or account can launch the game.
- Whether the error started after an update, purchase change, or Battle.net account-link change.
- Screenshots of the platform purchase history and Battle.net entitlement, with payment details redacted.
If ownership is confirmed and the error persists after the relevant account and service checks, escalation is more useful than another reinstall.
