If your PS5 shows both PS5 and PS5 Beta for Throne and Liberty, select PS5. That is the live product; PS5 Beta is the older test client. Highlight the game, open the three-dot menu, choose Select Version, pick PS5, and let it finish updating.
This was a reported launch-transition problem in October 2024, mainly affecting people who had installed a beta. It is not evidence that every PS5 player is affected, nor that the beta remains an active service in 2026.

What happened on PS5?
Players who had downloaded the Throne and Liberty closed or open beta could retain that application after the live release arrived. The PS5 interface could then expose two products: PS5 and PS5 Beta. Starting the latter opened pre-release software instead of the live game. Contemporary coverage reported the warning from the official Throne and Liberty status account on October 6, 2024 (Tech Times report).
This was a client-selection problem, not necessarily a faulty update or corrupted save. People who never installed a beta generally had no beta client to select.

The beta periods were time-limited: the closed beta supported PS5 and ran April 10–17, 2024 (official closed-beta details), and the open beta ended July 24, 2024, at 10 a.m. PT/5 p.m. UTC (official open-beta notice). The version mix-up was tied to the transition to the live release, not a newly verified 2026 outage.
How to confirm which client is running
- Highlight Throne and Liberty on the PS5 home screen or in Game Library.
- Open the three-dot menu and look for Select Version.
- If the list contains both PS5 and PS5 Beta, the beta installation is present.
- An old title screen, pre-release content, or behavior unlike the live release can be a clue, but the version selector is the decisive check.
Menu wording can vary slightly with PlayStation region, account state, and system software. Do not confuse this product selector with the PS4/PS5 selector for another game.
The quick fix: choose the live PS5 product
- Highlight Throne and Liberty on the PS5 home screen or in Game Library.
- Press the controller’s Options button, or select the three-dot menu beside the title.
- Choose Select Version.
- Select PS5 (sometimes displayed as PS5 Product).
- Do not select PS5 Beta.
- Choose Play Game and allow the live client to download any required update before signing in.
Selecting PS5 identifies the live product; it does not guarantee that every current patch is already installed. Check for an update if the game still looks old.

Remove the beta entry after the live game works
Deleting the obsolete beta application is optional. First verify that the live PS5 version launches and reaches the current game. Then:

- Press Options.
- Choose Delete and confirm removal of the application.
Keep the live PS5 installation. Deleting the game application is different from deleting saved data; do not remove saved data unless official support specifically tells you to.
If “PS5” is missing or the live client will not start

1. Check for a game update
Highlight the game, press Options, and choose Check for Update. PlayStation documents this path in its application-update instructions (PlayStation update support).
2. Restart and check system software
Restart the PS5 normally, then install any pending console system-software update. Confirm that the console has enough free storage for the patch or a fresh installation.

For a locked, missing, or unrecognized entitlement, use Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. PlayStation states that restoring licenses does not affect console data (PlayStation license support).

4. Reinstall the game application
If the live product remains unavailable or its files appear incomplete, delete and reinstall the application from Game Library or the PlayStation Store. Reinstallation removes the application and requires another download; it is not the same as deleting saved data. Check storage and bandwidth before starting.
5. Use Safe Mode only after simpler steps
Safe Mode’s Clear Cache and Rebuild Database tools can help with persistent indexing or launch problems. They are not required for a simple version-selection mistake. Do not choose Reset PS5 or Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) as routine troubleshooting: those options can erase user data. See PlayStation’s Safe Mode guidance (PS5 Safe Mode support).

PlayStation’s download-troubleshooting guidance covers account, transaction, status, software, license, and storage checks (downloaded-game support). A regional Store listing or a different PSN account can explain a missing or locked product without any beta being involved.

When to contact support
Contact Throne and Liberty support or PlayStation Support after the update, restart, license, and reinstall checks fail. Include:
- PS5 model and PSN account region;
- whether the beta was previously installed and under which account;
- the exact entries shown under Select Version;
- the full error code and a screenshot, if available;
- whether the live client was updated or reinstalled; and
- the approximate time of any outage or maintenance message.
That information distinguishes a leftover beta client from an entitlement, regional, storage, network, or server problem. The currently available official known-issues page does not establish that the specific beta-selection incident remains widespread (known-issues page).
