Best overall: MSI GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER 16G SUPRIM X
The Suprim X is the strongest all-round premium choice. MSI specifies a 2,610 MHz boost clock in Gaming and Silent modes, or up to 2,625 MHz through MSI Center, a 320 W power rating, an 850 W recommended power supply and a 336 × 142 × 78 mm footprint. See the MSI specifications.
#1 Best Overall
- Powered by NVIDIA DLSS3, ultra-efficient Ada Lovelace arch, and full ray tracing
- 4th Generation Tensor Cores: Up to 4x performance with DLSS 3 vs. brute-force rendering
- 3rd Generation RT Cores: Up to 2x ray tracing performance
- OC mode: 2640 MHz (OC mode)/ 2610 MHz (Default mode)
- Axial-tech fans scaled up for 23% more airflow
Its substantial triple-fan heatsink, metal-heavy shroud, dual BIOS and support hardware suit long gaming or rendering sessions. The cooler can allow lower fan speeds than a smaller design, but do not interpret the advertised clock as a proportionate FPS increase. GPU Boost, temperature, power limits, game workload and silicon variation keep differences between 4080 SUPER cards modest.
Choose it when the premium over a TUF, Gaming OC or Founders Edition is modest and you value construction, acoustics potential or appearance. Reject it when the price is hundreds of dollars higher without a better warranty or a specific fit or noise benefit; its dimensions can interfere with front radiators, side panels and adjacent slots.
Best value: ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER
The TUF is the default mainstream recommendation when sold near the lowest reputable RTX 4080 SUPER price. It provides a robust cooler and construction without the typical ROG Strix or Suprim surcharge. Treat “value” as a price relationship, not a permanent ranking: inventory and second-hand prices change.
Compare the exact TUF model with the cheapest credible alternative, including shipping, return period and warranty. If the TUF costs only a little more than a basic card, its larger cooler and build can justify the difference. If it approaches Suprim or Strix money, buy the premium model only for a feature you specifically need.

NVIDIA lists the Founders Edition at 304 mm long, 137 mm wide and three slots thick, with 320 W total graphics power and a 750 W minimum system-power recommendation. The reference specification is documented on NVIDIA’s RTX 4080 family page.
The FE is the most predictable choice for a clean reference-style build, but “compact” needs qualification. NVIDIA’s installation guide calls for clearance equivalent to 304 × 137 × 61 mm, three slots, plus additional room for airflow; reserve about 36 mm of extra space for the power cable and avoid pressing the side panel against the connector. Consult the RTX 4080 SUPER user guide.

- 4th Generation Tensor Cores: Up to 4X performance with DLSS 3 vs. brute-force rendering
- 3rd Generation RT Cores: Up to 2X ray tracing performance
- WINDFORCE Cooling system
- Metal backplate
Availability can be more important than design. Do not pay an inflated marketplace price simply because an FE is scarce; a well-warrantied partner card can be a better purchase.
Best for maximum factory-clocked performance: ASUS ROG Strix OC
The ROG Strix OC is among the highest-clocked and most heavily cooled 4080 SUPER designs. Its appeal is an oversized heatsink, enthusiast BIOS and lighting features, not a dramatic gaming advantage. A high advertised boost does not guarantee the highest measured FPS in every game.
Buy it when you want its cooler, aesthetics, BIOS controls or a favorable price. It is poor value when the premium is large and your goal is simply more frames; a TUF, Gaming OC, Suprim or FE will use the same underlying GPU and usually perform close at stock settings.
Best white RTX 4080 SUPER
Gigabyte AERO OC
AERO is the obvious white-build candidate, but check the exact regional model number before comparing length, thickness, bracket and power requirements. Gigabyte’s family information is at the RTX 4080 SUPER Gaming series page. The white shroud is useful only if its color consistency and design matter enough to justify any premium over a black Gaming OC.
ASUS ROG Strix White OC
The white Strix combines the Strix cooler and enthusiast feature set with a matching finish. Confirm the card’s dimensions, included support bracket, regional warranty and actual seller before paying extra. A white card that blocks a radiator or cannot close the side panel is not a successful aesthetic upgrade.
Best lower-cost, used or open-box choice: PNY XLR8 or Verto
PNY’s XLR8 Gaming EPIC-X RGB and Verto variants can make sense when substantially cheaper than premium models and sold with a dependable return policy or warranty. PNY’s product documentation confirms a standard 16GB RTX 4080 SUPER implementation: PNY’s brochure.

- Chipset: GeForce RTX 4080 Super
- Boost Clock / Memory: 2625 MHz / 23 Gbps
- Video Memory: 16GB GDDR6X
- Memory Interface: 256-bit
- Output: DisplayPort x 2 (v1.4a) / HDMI x 2 (2.1a)
Do not assume every PNY version has identical cooler capacity or acoustics. For a used card, condition, connector health, serial-number documentation and warranty are more important than a small factory-clock difference. Prefer an authorized seller, a clear return window and a card that has not been disassembled or BIOS-modified.
What changes between RTX 4080 SUPER brands?
Every RTX 4080 SUPER uses the same basic GPU specification: 10,240 CUDA cores, 16GB of GDDR6X on a 256-bit bus, 23 Gbps memory, PCIe 4.0, a 320 W reference total graphics power and a 2.55 GHz reference boost. It supports hardware ray tracing, DLSS 3.5 features, AV1 encoding, three DisplayPort outputs and one HDMI output. NVIDIA documents those specifications at its RTX 4080 family page.
Board partners mainly change the cooler, fan-stop behavior, BIOS, power limit, VRM and PCB, factory clock, dimensions, lighting, software, accessories, warranty terms and price. At stock settings, those changes normally produce a modest performance spread. Spend extra for lower noise, fit, support or design—not for MHz alone.
Cooling, size and installation
A competent triple-fan cooler is the sensible baseline for this 320 W GPU. Larger heatsinks can reduce temperature or fan speed, but add weight, sag risk, shipping stress and installation difficulty. Exact dimensions matter more than names such as Gaming, OC, X, Suprim, Strix or AERO.
Recommended Free Tools
- Check the case’s maximum GPU length against the exact SKU.
- Check thickness in slots and millimetres, including occupied expansion slots.
- Subtract space consumed by a front radiator, front fans or drive cages.
- Measure side-panel clearance around the 16-pin connector and cable bend.
- Leave airflow space above and below the card.
- Install a support bracket on especially long or heavy cards.
Use a native compatible 12VHPWR or 12V-2×6 cable when your power supply provides one. Otherwise, use the supplied adapter with separate PCIe cables as directed; NVIDIA specifies three PCIe 8-pin cables through the adapter or one compatible 450 W-or-greater PCIe Gen 5 cable for the FE. Seat the connector fully and do not sharply bend it immediately at the plug.
Power-supply requirements
NVIDIA’s FE guidance is a 750 W minimum system power recommendation, while partner cards can specify 850 W or more. MSI lists 850 W for the Suprim while also noting 750 W as a minimum in its specification table. Account for CPU draw, overclocking, other devices and PSU quality rather than choosing by wattage alone. An ATX 3.x unit from a reputable manufacturer with an appropriate native GPU cable is preferable to an unbranded high-wattage supply.

Does 16GB of VRAM limit the card?
Sixteen gigabytes remains practical for most current 4K gaming, but it is not a guarantee for every future workload. Heavy texture mods, 4K or 8K video, large 3D scenes, local AI models and professional compute can exceed it or benefit from a newer platform. The 4080 SUPER’s memory specification is listed by NVIDIA.
RTX 4080 SUPER versus RTX 5080 in 2026
The RTX 5080 uses NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture, 16GB of GDDR7, newer DLSS and ray-tracing features, a 360 W reference total graphics power and an 850 W recommended system power. See NVIDIA’s RTX 5080 specifications.

NVIDIA’s marketplace listed the RTX 5080 at $999 but showed it out of stock when crawled. PC Gamer observed approximately $1,289.99 at Best Buy, $1,399.99 at Walmart and $1,478.99 at Amazon on August 14, 2026; those are retailer observations, not guaranteed prices. The price-watch report provides the date and retailers.
- Buy a 4080 SUPER when it is meaningfully cheaper, especially used, refurbished or open-box with warranty.
- Buy an RTX 5080 when prices are close, because its newer architecture and feature runway are worth the difference.
- Do not pay a scarcity or collector premium for a 4080 SUPER.
- Include the cost of any PSU or case change in the comparison.
AMD alternative: Radeon RX 9070 XT
The RX 9070 XT is worth considering for rasterized gaming value, FreeSync systems and open display connectivity. AMD lists 16GB GDDR6, a 256-bit interface, up to 640 GB/s bandwidth, DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b on its official specifications page.
It is not a universal replacement for CUDA applications, NVIDIA Studio, DLSS-dependent games, CUDA-optimized AI or NVIDIA encoding and Broadcast workflows. Choose it when those NVIDIA-specific requirements are not important.
New, open-box and used buying checks
- Match the complete model number, not merely the family name.
- Confirm length, thickness, power connector and included bracket.
- Check the seller’s return period and whether the manufacturer warranty transfers in your region.
- Inspect photos for connector damage, corrosion, missing screws, dust and signs of disassembly.
- Ask whether the BIOS is original and whether the card was used for sustained high-load work.
- For marketplace purchases, verify serial information and avoid unusually cheap listings.
For an older high-end GPU, seller quality and warranty can outweigh a small difference between coolers.
Verdict
Buy the least-expensive reputable RTX 4080 SUPER that fits your case and comes with acceptable support. Choose the MSI Suprim X for a premium all-round package, the ASUS TUF when it is near the market floor, the Founders Edition when its reference dimensions solve a build problem, and Strix or white models only when their specific design benefits justify the premium. If the final price approaches an RTX 5080, choose the newer card instead.
