For a low-end PC, start with Low settings, 720p or 900p, and a locked 30 or 60 FPS target. Stable frame pacing is more important for FC 25 than an uncapped FPS counter. If your hardware is substantially below EA’s minimum specification, software tweaks may improve playability but cannot guarantee a smooth match.

FC 25 launched on PC on September 26, 2024. This guide separates safe changes from experimental fixes and shows how to identify whether the limit is your GPU, CPU, memory, thermals, or network.

Can your PC run FC 25?

EA lists the following official requirements. The 16 GB memory recommendation below is practical advice for modern Windows, not an EA requirement.

Component Minimum Recommended Practical interpretation
Operating system Windows 10 64-bit Windows 10 64-bit Keep Windows updated.
CPU Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Intel Core i7-6700 or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X CPU performance affects crowds, simulation, menus and frame-time consistency.
Memory 8 GB RAM 12 GB RAM 16 GB is a sensible modern Windows target when the system supports it.
GPU NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti or AMD RX 570 NVIDIA GTX 1660 or AMD RX 5600 XT The GPU largely determines resolution and visual headroom.
DirectX Version 12 Version 12 Your GPU must support the required feature level.
Storage 100 GB 100 GB An SSD is preferable for loading, but EA does not state that it is mandatory.

See EA’s official requirements and the Steam listing, which also notes EA App, EA Account, online activation and anticheat requirements.

Check the real bottleneck

  • Confirm FC 25 is using the dedicated GPU, not integrated graphics.
  • Check total RAM and whether memory is single- or dual-channel.
  • Play while plugged into AC power, especially on a laptop.
  • Monitor CPU/GPU temperatures, clock speeds and utilization during a match.
  • Leave reasonable free space on the system drive.
  • Separate rendering problems from connection problems: smooth offline play with online teleporting or delayed animations indicates network trouble, not necessarily low FPS.

Set a baseline before changing anything

Record resolution, display mode, refresh rate, FPS cap, V-Sync state, GPU and CPU usage, RAM usage and temperatures. Run the same offline Kick-Off test using the same stadium, weather, camera and match length. Observe the opening camera, normal play, corners, replays and crowded scenes, then test online separately. Change only one or two settings at a time and judge 1% lows and frame pacing, not just the average FPS.

Best low-end FC 25 settings

These are safe starting profiles, not tested guarantees for every driver, patch or PC.

Profile A: minimum-class hardware, 30 FPS

  • Resolution: 1280×720 or 1600×900
  • Display mode: test fullscreen and borderless
  • Preset and rendering quality: Low
  • Crowd, grass and cloth quality: Low
  • Hair or strand-based hair: Off
  • Ambient occlusion: Off or Low
  • Motion blur: Off
  • Anti-aliasing: Low or Off if available
  • Dynamic resolution: use only if fixed resolution cannot hold the target
  • Cutscene and replay quality: Low or reduced
  • Frame limit: 30 FPS

Profile B: low-end hardware, 60 FPS

  • Resolution: 1280×720, 1600×900 or 1920×1080, depending on headroom
  • Preset: Low; test Medium rendering only after 60 FPS is stable
  • Crowd and grass: Low
  • Hair effects: Off
  • Cloth: Low; ambient occlusion: Off; motion blur: Off
  • Cutscene and replay quality: Reduce it if menus or replays spike
  • Frame limit: 60 FPS

Lower settings in this order

  1. Resolution or render scale
  2. Rendering quality
  3. Crowd quality
  4. Grass quality
  5. Hair effects
  6. Ambient occlusion
  7. Cloth quality
  8. Anti-aliasing
  9. Motion blur

Keep textures higher when VRAM allows; they usually preserve image clarity better than lowering crowd, grass, hair, shadows and ambient effects. Dynamic resolution can protect motion smoothness by lowering internal resolution in demanding scenes, but it produces a softer, changing image and may not be labelled identically in every FC 25 build. Do not copy FC 26 settings guides; franchise search results can mix the two games (Steam community announcements).

FPS caps, V-Sync and frame pacing

  1. Set the monitor to its native refresh rate in Windows.
  2. Choose 30 FPS for severely limited hardware or 60 FPS when the system can sustain it.
  3. Test FC 25’s own limiter first.
  4. If delivery is uneven, test a driver-level cap.
  5. Test V-Sync on and off, keeping the smoother, lower-latency result.

V-Sync can remove tearing but add latency or uneven behavior when FPS falls below refresh rate. V-Sync off can reduce latency but allows tearing. Uncapped FPS can increase heat and frame-time variation. Community reports disagree about the ideal NVIDIA profile, so treat V-Sync, caps and low-latency options as controlled experiments rather than universal fixes (EA forum report; another EA report).

Windows optimizations

  • Install pending Windows and GPU-driver updates.
  • Close browsers, recording software, launchers and unnecessary background tasks.
  • Use a performance-oriented Windows power mode while plugged in.
  • Open Windows Graphics settings, add the FC 25 executable and select the high-performance GPU on hybrid systems.
  • Disable Xbox Game Bar, Discord, Steam, EA, NVIDIA or AMD overlays one at a time.
  • Clean vents and verify that fans work.

Game Mode and “Optimizations for windowed games” can help some systems and hurt others; test them with your chosen display mode. Do not disable security features, services or antivirus protection as a first-line FPS tweak, and avoid registry cleaners, debloat scripts and “FPS booster” applications.

NVIDIA settings

Use NVIDIA Control Panel → Manage 3D settings → Program Settings and select FC 25 rather than changing global profiles.

  • Power management mode: test Prefer maximum performance.
  • Max Frame Rate: match 30 or 60 FPS.
  • Vertical sync: test On and Off.
  • Low Latency Mode: test Off, On and Ultra separately.
  • Texture filtering – Quality: use Prefer performance only if reduced image quality is acceptable.
  • Preferred refresh rate: Highest available where appropriate.
  • Shader Cache Size: leave at driver default unless specifically troubleshooting shader behavior.

Restart the game after meaningful changes and revert anything that fails to improve frame pacing. Reports conflict on Ultra low latency, maximum performance and shader-cache changes; they can increase power use or heat (EA community discussion; community optimization discussion).

AMD settings

Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition → Gaming → Games → FC 25. Start with a 30 or 60 FPS cap, then test Wait for Vertical Refresh, Radeon Anti-Lag, Enhanced Sync, Radeon Chill and texture-filtering quality individually. One community report suggests V-Sync on, a 60 FPS target, Anti-Lag off and Enhanced Sync off for one stuttering setup, but it is not an official universal profile.

Repair, cache and shader troubleshooting

Repair the installation

  • EA App: open FC 25’s menu and choose Repair.
  • Steam: open Properties and use the file-verification option.
  • Restart the launcher after repair.

Clear the EA App cache

  1. Open Start and select All Apps.
  2. Open the EA folder.
  3. Select App Recovery.
  4. Choose Clear Cache.

EA says this can help with offline launcher states, failed downloads, stuck updates or missing games; it does not fix server outages. Follow the current EA cache instructions.

Rebuild shader data safely

  1. Back up save and configuration files.
  2. Repair FC 25 and clear the EA App cache.
  3. Use Windows Disk Cleanup to clear DirectX Shader Cache.
  4. Restart Windows.
  5. Launch FC 25, allow assets to rebuild and retest.

Forum users have reported improvement after shader-cache or settings resets, but these are anecdotal (EA forum report). Renaming or deleting the local settings folder can reset graphics and may affect local career-related data. Back it up first; never delete unknown files from AppData or Documents blindly. Avoid downloaded .ini files, read-only configuration tricks and unproven driver rollbacks.

Diagnose stutter, low usage and input delay

GPU-bound

GPU usage near 95–100%, high temperature or power draw, and a large FPS gain after lowering resolution indicate a graphics limit. Reduce resolution, rendering quality, crowd, grass, hair and ambient effects.

CPU-bound

Low GPU usage, little change after lowering resolution, and stutters in crowds, replays or simulation-heavy scenes point to the CPU. Close background work, use a stable cap, reduce crowd settings, check temperatures and consider a platform upgrade.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Thermal-bound

If performance starts well and worsens after several minutes while clocks fall, improve ventilation, clean cooling hardware and use a laptop stand. Do not apply excessive power-limit tweaks.

Low GPU usage is not automatically a fault

Check wrong-GPU selection, power-saving mode, thermal throttling, frame caps, V-Sync, background applications and presentation mode before concluding that FC 25 is malfunctioning.

Input delay

Test a lower stable cap, V-Sync on and off, fullscreen versus borderless, disabled overlays, wired versus wireless controller and the display’s refresh-rate settings. NVIDIA Ultra and AMD Anti-Lag are not guaranteed fixes.

Integrated graphics, RAM and laptops

Integrated graphics should be treated as a 720p/30 FPS experiment, not a guaranteed result. Dual-channel memory can materially help integrated GPUs. If the PC has 8 GB, upgrading to 16 GB is practical when compatible, but it will not turn a substantially below-minimum GPU into a 60 FPS system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Laptop users should verify the dedicated GPU, AC power, manufacturer performance mode, charger or dock wattage, temperatures, clock speeds, fan condition, memory channel configuration and external-display refresh rate. Thermal limits and power limits often explain performance that is initially good and then declines.

When an upgrade is justified

Upgrade Good fit What it cannot fix
RAM to 16 GB 8 GB system, heavy Windows usage or integrated graphics borrowing memory GPU or CPU below practical needs; soldered memory
SSD Game on a hard drive, slow loading, asset-streaming delays or nearly full system drive Does not create GPU or CPU performance
Dedicated GPU GPU below GTX 1050 Ti/RX 570, near-full utilization and major gains from lower resolution CPU bottlenecks, thermal throttling or inadequate power supply
CPU/platform Low GPU usage with CPU saturation after software cleanup Cannot solve a genuinely GPU-bound workload

Use the official minimum class—GTX 1050 Ti/RX 570—and recommended class—GTX 1660/RX 5600 XT—as comparison points. Check compatibility, power supply, laptop replaceability and live pricing before buying.

Failure recovery checklist

FC 25 will not launch

  1. Restart Steam, EA App and Windows.
  2. Repair or verify files.
  3. Clear the EA App cache.
  4. Update or reinstall the graphics driver.
  5. Disable overlays.
  6. Confirm EA App, account and activation services work.
  7. Run the launcher normally before trying administrator mode.
  8. Reinstall only after these steps fail.

Stuttering after an update

Compare offline and online play, repair files, clear DirectX Shader Cache and EA cache, lock 30 or 60 FPS, test V-Sync and caps separately, and check thermals before considering a driver change.

Quick checklist

  • Meet or understand the official requirements.
  • Select the dedicated GPU and plug in the laptop.
  • Start at Low, 720p/900p and a locked 30 or 60 FPS.
  • Reduce crowd, grass, hair, rendering quality and ambient occlusion first.
  • Test V-Sync and frame caps methodically.
  • Disable overlays and close background tasks.
  • Repair files and clear EA cache before deleting configuration data.
  • Back up settings and saves before any folder reset.
  • Use offline Kick-Off to separate rendering from network problems.
  • Upgrade RAM, SSD, GPU or CPU only after identifying the bottleneck.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can FC 25 run with 8 GB RAM?

Yes, 8 GB is EA’s official minimum, but Windows and background applications leave less headroom. A compatible 16 GB upgrade is practical when memory pressure causes stutter.

Is an SSD required?

No. EA specifies 100 GB of storage, not an SSD. An SSD can improve loading and some asset-streaming behavior, but it cannot replace GPU or CPU performance.

Should I use V-Sync?

Test it both on and off with a stable 30 or 60 FPS cap. Keep the combination with the smoothest frame times and acceptable input latency.

Do FPS booster apps work?

Avoid them. Background cleanup, correct GPU selection, sensible caps and verified game files are safer and more reversible.

Why is offline gameplay smooth but online play delayed?

That pattern points toward ping, packet loss or server conditions. Network delay is separate from rendering FPS and requires connection troubleshooting.
