Funstock Retro’s UK pre-order listing was reported in April 2016 at £219.99, with May 6 given as a projected release or shipping date—not a confirmed manufacturer launch. That offer is long past; the available evidence does not establish current stock or support.
What the JXD S192 was
The S192 was best understood as an Android tablet designed around handheld gaming, not as an NVIDIA-made console. Its landscape-oriented body combined a touchscreen with two analog sticks, a D-pad, four face buttons, shoulder buttons and triggers. It was also intended for ordinary Android uses such as media playback and tablet apps, with Google Play access reported at the time. The controls made games built for physical inputs more convenient, but the fixed landscape layout and bulky controller housing made it less adaptable as a general-purpose tablet. SlashGear’s contemporary coverage also noted that support for mapping controls in touchscreen-first Android games was unclear.

Why NVIDIA was associated with it
NVIDIA’s role was the Tegra K1 system-on-chip inside the JXD device. Contemporary product descriptions identified a quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 CPU running at around 2.0 GHz and a Kepler-based GPU with 192 CUDA cores, paired with 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. That made the chip an ambitious feature for an Android handheld in 2016. It did not make the S192 an NVIDIA SHIELD product, nor does the available evidence establish access to the full SHIELD ecosystem. Android Community and SlashGear described the Tegra hardware; the safer distinction is JXD hardware using NVIDIA silicon.
Reported specifications
Contemporary reports agree on the core platform, though not every detail was presented consistently. This table separates the repeatedly reported figures from specifications that need more caution.

| Component | Reported description | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | NVIDIA Tegra K1 | Consistent across contemporary reports. |
| CPU | Quad-core ARM Cortex-A15, around 2.0 GHz | Product-description figure, not an independent measurement. |
| GPU | NVIDIA Kepler graphics, 192 CUDA cores | Reported in multiple contemporary accounts. |
| Memory | 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM | Consistently reported for the original S192. |
| Display | 7-inch; most reports say 1920×1200 | One contemporary Spanish account says 1920×1080, so the resolution is not uniformly reported. |
| Storage | 32 GB | Appears in a detailed report; not as consistently documented as the core hardware. |
| Battery | 10,000 mAh | Reported capacity; promotional runtime claims were estimates, not independent test results. |
| Cameras | 5 MP front; 13 MP rear | Repeatedly reported in product coverage. |
| Wireless | Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi | Wi-Fi support was reported, but the exact specification is not established here. |
| Audio and ports | Dual speakers; HDMI output reported | Exact HDMI version and output resolution are not established. |
| Expansion | microSD support reported | Maximum supported capacity is not established. |
| Operating system | Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean | Listed in contemporary coverage; no verified upgrade path is established. |
The 1920×1200 screen is the better-supported figure, but reports conflict: SlashGear and other coverage gave that resolution, while Xataka described it as 1920×1080. “Retina” appeared as marketing language; screen size and pixel count are more useful objective descriptions.
What it could play—and what that claim means
The S192 was promoted for Android games and a wide range of emulators. Contemporary lists named PlayStation, Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, MAME and other arcade systems, Neo Geo, Atari, NES, SNES, Game Boy family systems, Sega Master System and Mega Drive/Genesis, CPS1/CPS2, Amiga, Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum. Some reports also mentioned PSP. These were advertised platform lists, not independently verified compatibility results. They do not establish that every title ran accurately or smoothly, or that input mapping, frame pacing and audio worked well in every emulator.
Emulator software and copyrighted game files are separate things. Reports of preloaded emulators or support for many systems do not prove that copyrighted games were included legally. Anyone using emulators should obtain game images and any required BIOS files lawfully under the rules that apply in their region.
The Tegra K1 made the S192 more promising for demanding Android games and emulation than many low-cost handheld chips of its era. But 2 GB of RAM and Android 4.2.2 sharply limit its usefulness by modern standards. The available evidence does not establish current app compatibility, security updates, Google Play certification status or a supported Android upgrade.

Reports published in April 2016 said Funstock Retro had listed the JXD S192 for UK pre-order at £219.99, approximately $315–$316 at the time. May 6, 2016 was given as the projected UK release or shipping date. That date should be treated as a retailer-stated estimate: Android Headlines reported that JXD had not firmly confirmed the exact timing. Contemporary accounts include Droid Life and Notebookcheck. This is historical pricing, not a current offer.
Battery claims and practical trade-offs
Product material cited roughly six hours of gameplay from the 10,000 mAh battery, alongside longer estimates for less demanding activities. Those figures were promotional estimates rather than independently measured results. Actual runtime would depend on screen brightness, game workload, emulator settings, wireless use and the condition of the battery today.
- Why it was appealing in 2016: integrated controls, a large screen, a substantial stated battery capacity, Google Play access and a powerful-for-its-class Tegra chip in one device. HDMI output was also reported, though its exact capabilities are not established.
- What tempered the appeal: Android 4.2.2 was already an old platform for a new pre-order, 2 GB of RAM left little headroom, and the high-resolution screen asked more of the GPU than a lower-resolution retro handheld display. Physical bulk also compromised tablet comfort.
Do not confuse the S192 with the S192K
The later JXD S192K was a different configuration, not simply another name for the Tegra model. Reports describe the S192K with a Rockchip RK3288 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, versus the original S192’s Tegra K1 and 2 GB of RAM. Notebookcheck’s S192K report distinguishes the models. Check the exact model and processor in any used listing rather than relying on a shared S192 name.
Is the JXD S192 worth buying now?
As of 2026, the S192 is better treated as a collector’s item or tinkering project than as a practical new handheld recommendation. The historical pre-order does not establish current availability, warranty coverage, parts supply or seller support. No verified current official firmware download, factory-reset procedure, safe recovery image or supported upgrade path is established in the cited material, so a buyer should not assume a modified unit can be restored easily.

For a second-hand unit, inspect it in person where possible and test the features that age or fail first:
- Confirm the battery charges and holds capacity, and check whether the original charger is included.
- Test the full touchscreen, both analog sticks for drift or poor centering, and every D-pad, face, shoulder and trigger button.
- Check microSD and HDMI ports if those functions matter to you.
- Ask whether the device is modified, what firmware it runs, and whether Google Play works; do not assume it can be upgraded or safely recovered.
- Verify whether it is the original Tegra K1 S192 or the Rockchip-based S192K, and confirm condition and return rights before paying.
Readers seeking a supported handheld for PC games can check the current ASUS ROG Ally range; those prioritizing a large screen and detachable controllers can review the Lenovo Legion Go Gen 2. These are different, newer product categories, so check official pages for current configurations, pricing and availability rather than comparing them to the S192’s 2016 price.
