12 Flagship Devices That Were Great for Gaming in 2025

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There was no single best gaming device in 2025: a phone built for competitive mobile play, a tablet for a large-screen session, and a handheld PC solve different problems. These 12 devices were available, relevant, or still current during the year—not all launched in 2025. The picks below are organized by what you play and how you want to play it, with regional availability and practical drawbacks called out.

How to choose a flagship gaming device

“Flagship” is relative to the category. A premium phone is not a substitute for a PC handheld, and an iPad Pro does not provide the same local PC game library as a Steam Deck or Legion Go S. The useful questions are whether a device can sustain performance, whether your games support its screen and controls, and whether the software and warranty work in your region.

These recommendations account for gaming performance, display and controls, heat and battery behavior, game-library access, and everyday value. Peak chip speed alone does not decide the ranking. Frame rate can depend on the game, graphics settings, device temperature, and whether that title supports high-refresh output at all. A 185Hz screen does not make every game run at 185 frames per second.

The list covers competitive mobile games such as Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG Mobile, Genshin Impact, and Wuthering Waves; premium iOS and Android games; emulation; cloud and remote play; tablet games; and locally installed PC games. Those are distinct workloads, so the best pick for one is not automatically best for another.

Gaming phones

1. ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro — best dedicated gaming phone

The ROG Phone 9 Pro is the most complete choice here for people who play demanding mobile games for long sessions. Its Snapdragon 8 Elite platform, 185Hz AMOLED display, AirTrigger controls, gaming software, two USB-C ports, and 3.5mm headphone jack are features designed around play rather than simply inherited from a general-purpose flagship. ASUS’s review coverage discusses its performance, display, and thermal behavior in more detail at Android Central and Tom’s Guide.

The 185Hz panel is useful only in games that support high refresh rates and can render at them. For everyone else, the benefit is less consequential than the phone’s controls, tuning, and accessory ecosystem. ASUS’s gaming-phone feature overview is at Digital Trends.

  • Choose it for: Competitive mobile games, wired audio, shoulder-control input, and sessions where gaming ergonomics matter.
  • Consider another phone if: Camera quality, compact size, lower cost, or mainstream-phone polish matter more than gaming features.

The phone is expensive and bulky, and its cameras are not class-leading. Performance can also generate substantial heat. Configuration and availability vary by region; check local carrier compatibility and warranty before buying.

2. REDMAGIC 10 Pro — best performance-focused value

The REDMAGIC 10 Pro pairs a Snapdragon 8 Elite platform with a built-in active cooling fan, a high-refresh AMOLED display, gaming triggers, and performance modes. It is aimed at buyers who put sustained gaming performance ahead of camera quality or a conventional phone design. Pocket Tactics’ review covers the device, while TechRadar’s comparison sets it against the ROG Phone 9 Pro.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Its appeal is value relative to premium gaming-phone rivals, not a guarantee that it wins every game or benchmark. The trade-offs include a weaker camera system, a less polished software experience, potential fan noise, and regional warranty or carrier limitations. Check the exact software-update policy, network bands, and local service terms for the version you are considering.

3. Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra — best all-round Android flagship

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is the easiest gaming recommendation for someone who also wants a top-tier everyday Android phone. In relevant markets it uses Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy and pairs it with a 6.9-inch high-resolution AMOLED display, S Pen functionality, and broad accessory support. It suits large-screen mobile games, controller play, and emulation while retaining the camera and productivity features a gaming phone may sacrifice.

There are no built-in shoulder triggers or active cooling fan, and the phone is large and costly. Regional chipset configurations can differ, so buyers should confirm the model sold locally. Samsung’s long software-support commitment is a useful everyday advantage, but it does not make every game compatible with high-refresh play.

4. iPhone 16 Pro Max — best iOS gaming phone

Still relevant during 2025 despite not being a 2025 launch, the iPhone 16 Pro Max combines Apple’s A18 Pro with a strong premium-game ecosystem, high-quality display, and broad controller and remote-play compatibility. Apple’s specifications list USB 3 transfer speeds up to 10Gbps and Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W: Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max technical specifications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is a strong fit for Apple Arcade, iOS-exclusive games, and players already using Apple devices. Its general battery performance can be excellent, but that should not be confused with gaming endurance: a PhoneArena comparison found the iPhone ahead in general browsing endurance while the ROG Phone performed strongly in 3D gaming tests (PhoneArena comparison).

Not every game supports high refresh rates, and the phone lacks built-in gaming triggers. iOS also offers fewer emulator and system-customization options than Android. It makes more sense as a premium iPhone that games very well than as a dedicated gaming phone.

5. OnePlus 13 — best mainstream Android value

The OnePlus 13 delivers Snapdragon 8 Elite performance, a large 2K LTPO OLED display, and a battery-and-charging focus in a conventional flagship phone. It is a good fit for someone seeking near-top Android gaming performance without paying the highest Samsung or Apple prices. International availability expanded in early 2025; regional configurations and sales vary.

It lacks active cooling and built-in triggers, so it is less purpose-built for long competitive sessions than the ROG Phone. Camera consistency and software-support priorities may also point some buyers toward Samsung or Apple. A comparison with ASUS positions the ROG as the gaming-first choice and OnePlus as the balanced phone: Tech Advisor’s comparison.

6. iQOO 13 — best for performance buyers in supported markets

The iQOO 13 is a Snapdragon 8 Elite performance-oriented phone with a high-refresh AMOLED display and gaming-focused hardware. It is most sensible in markets where it is officially sold and supported; it is not a universal U.S. recommendation.

Import buyers should verify LTE and 5G bands, VoLTE and carrier certification, Google Play availability, warranty location, NFC payments, charging compatibility, firmware region, and software language before paying. A strong specification sheet cannot compensate for unreliable carrier service or a warranty that cannot be used locally.

7. Xiaomi 15 Ultra — best camera-and-gaming hybrid

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is for buyers who want flagship photography and enough performance for demanding Android games in one device. Its gaming case is less compelling than the dedicated ROG or REDMAGIC options, but it adds a camera emphasis that those phones do not match.

Availability, warranty, software, network bands, charging standards, and app behavior differ by market and imported version. There is no sound basis here for quoting a universal U.S. price or claiming official U.S. availability; buy only after checking the exact local sales and service arrangements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

8. HONOR Magic7 Pro — best battery-and-display alternative

The HONOR Magic7 Pro is another high-end Snapdragon phone suited to demanding Android games, with a premium large display and battery-oriented design. It is worth considering in supported European, Asian, and other markets for buyers who value battery and screen quality as much as gaming.

U.S. availability may be limited or absent depending on the sales channel. Accessories, gaming community support, warranty, and software experience are not as universal as for mainstream Samsung or Apple phones, so verify the local version rather than assuming import models are equivalent.

Tablets for large-screen gaming

9. iPad Pro M4 — best premium tablet for gaming

The M4 iPad Pro has substantial CPU and GPU headroom, an OLED display on the relevant current-generation models, and access to Apple Arcade, premium iPad games, controllers, remote play, and cloud-gaming clients. The larger screen works particularly well for strategy, RPG, simulation, and controller-based games, especially when the tablet rests on a stand.

It is expensive once storage and accessories are added, and many iPad games do not fully exploit the hardware. iPadOS is not macOS and does not turn the tablet into a general PC gaming machine. Apple’s current iPad Pro product page is here.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

10. Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra — best large Android gaming tablet

The Tab S10 Ultra’s very large AMOLED screen is suited to local multiplayer, cloud or remote play, and large-screen strategy or role-playing games. Android also provides access to a broad mobile game and emulator ecosystem. It works best on a stand, in a lap, or at a desk as a gaming-and-media station.

Its size makes prolonged handheld play uncomfortable, serious play benefits from a controller, and game optimization for tablets varies. Choose it as a large Android tablet that can game, not as a portable console. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S product page is here.

Handheld PCs

11. Lenovo Legion Go S — best for Windows flexibility

The Legion Go S is a 2025 handheld-PC contender for players who want access to PC storefronts and applications. Depending on the configuration, it offers a 120Hz display and modern AMD handheld hardware. Windows makes Steam, Epic, GOG, Game Pass PC, and other PC uses possible, but individual games and settings still matter.

Windows handhelds can require driver updates, launcher management, controller mapping, notification cleanup, and manual graphics or power adjustments. Battery life depends heavily on the game and power mode. Do not treat SteamOS and Windows Legion Go S versions as the same product: the APU, memory, storage, operating system, and resulting value can differ. See Lenovo’s Legion Go product listings and 2025 handheld coverage from Tom’s Guide.

12. Steam Deck OLED — best console-like PC handheld

The Steam Deck OLED is the pick for Steam-library owners who prioritize an approachable, controller-first interface, OLED screen, suspend-and-resume convenience, and a mature community. It is often easier to use like a console than a Windows handheld, making it particularly appealing for indie titles, older PC games, emulation, and Steam games verified for the Deck.

Its performance is behind newer Ryzen Z1 Extreme- or Z2-class handhelds, and some Windows-only or anti-cheat games are incompatible or need workarounds. It is not the best choice for the newest AAA games at high settings, and the OLED model is not a new performance generation. Steam Deck coverage contrasts its console-like polish with Windows devices’ broader compatibility at Windows Central; Valve’s official OLED page is here.

When another gaming device makes more sense

Nintendo Switch 2 for Nintendo games

Switch 2 belongs in a different category: it is a console platform whose defining draw is Nintendo software and console-style simplicity, not open PC storefront access. It should not be compared with phones or PC handhelds by raw specifications alone. Consider it for Nintendo exclusives and local multiplayer, not Steam, Windows games, or an open emulation workflow. Its distinct place among 2025 handhelds is also reflected in PC Gamer’s handheld coverage. Nintendo’s product page is here.

Match the device to the games you actually play

  • Competitive Android games and long sessions: ROG Phone 9 Pro for controls and gaming features, or REDMAGIC 10 Pro if performance-focused value matters more.
  • One phone for games, photos, work, and media: Galaxy S25 Ultra or OnePlus 13 for Android; iPhone 16 Pro Max for iOS and Apple ecosystem users.
  • iOS premium games or Apple Arcade on a bigger display: iPad Pro M4, with a controller or stand for longer sessions.
  • Large-screen Android play: Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, ideally with a stand and controller.
  • Locally installed PC games: Legion Go S if broader Windows storefront access is the priority; Steam Deck OLED if ease of use with a Steam library matters more.
  • Nintendo exclusives: Switch 2, as a console alternative rather than a general-purpose device.

For cloud gaming or remote play, the network is part of the setup. Wi-Fi latency, router congestion, cellular throttling, server distance, compression, and input delay can dominate the experience; buying a faster device cannot remove those limits.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check these details before buying

  • Verify the game, not just the screen specification. Check whether your exact title supports the device’s high-refresh mode and whether its graphics settings can sustain the desired frame rate.
  • Think about comfort and controls. A tablet may need a stand and gamepad; a phone may need a clip-on controller, whose fit can be affected by cases. A handheld PC already has integrated controls but is heavier than a phone.
  • Separate general battery life from gaming endurance. Demanding 3D games, screen brightness, heat, and power settings affect runtime. Fast charging or bypass charging can help with plugged-in sessions, but features vary by model.
  • Account for platform limits. iOS, Android, SteamOS, and Windows have different storefronts, emulator options, controller mapping, anti-cheat support, and game compatibility. On Windows handhelds, expect more desktop-style setup.
  • Confirm local support for imports. Check carrier bands and certification, warranty location, payment features, firmware, language, and update policy for the precise regional variant.
  • Budget for the usable setup. A controller, case, stand, dock, or cooling accessory may be helpful, but none is necessary for every buyer. Add only what your preferred games and play style require.

Prices and promotions change, and regional configurations can differ. Check the seller’s current price, return terms, and warranty rather than treating an undated launch price as a current deal.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
