VAL 43 is best treated first as a temporary Riot Client, login, or connection problem—not automatically as a Vanguard failure. Check Riot’s service status, fully restart the Riot Client and Windows, then repair the network path before considering reinstalls. Riot does not currently publish an indexed English article that defines VAL 43 specifically, so the steps below separate Riot-documented general troubleshooting from practical diagnostic tests.
Last checked: August 18, 2026. Riot’s error meanings, support pages, and interface labels can change. VALORANT is also available on console, but the Command Prompt, Windows Firewall, AppData, clean-boot, and Vanguard procedures here are for Windows PC unless noted.
First, check whether Riot is having an outage
Open Riot’s official service-status page, select VALORANT, your geographic region, and the relevant platform where applicable. If Riot lists an active incident or maintenance, wait for the incident to be resolved and retry. Reinstalling cannot repair a server-side outage.
If many players receive VAL 43 at the same time, a service-side problem becomes more likely. If only your account or PC is affected, continue with local troubleshooting. Do not assume Riot is currently up or down without checking the status page at the time you see the error.

What VAL 43 means
Players commonly see VAL 43 while the client is connecting, authenticating, or retrieving game services. Riot’s currently indexed support material does not provide a dedicated VAL 43 definition, so the code should not be treated as proof of one specific cause.
Possible causes include:
- a temporary Riot service interruption;
- a stuck Riot Client session or interrupted authentication request;
- DNS, firewall, router, or ISP connectivity problems;
- corrupt local client or configuration data; or
- an incomplete or partially applied update.
VAL 43 is not the same as a VAN error. Codes such as VAN 9001, VAN 9002, or VAN 9005 belong to Vanguard troubleshooting. If the displayed code changes to a VAN code, use Riot’s installation and technical-support category instead.
Fix VAL 43 in the safest order
1. Fully restart VALORANT and the Riot Client
- Exit VALORANT.
- Exit the Riot Client from its notification-area (system-tray) icon.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- If Riot or VALORANT processes are still running, end only those related processes. Process names and labels can vary by client version; do not terminate unrelated Windows processes.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Riot Client, sign in, and launch VALORANT.
A normal window close can leave a client session running. A complete restart is the fastest low-risk test for a stale session, although it does not prove that a stale session was the root cause.
2. Test the connection and another network
Confirm that ordinary websites and other services work, restart the router if practical, and temporarily connect the PC to a phone hotspot. If VALORANT works on the hotspot, investigate your normal network:

- router filtering, parental controls, or security settings;
- DNS resolution;
- ISP routing; and
- local firewall or traffic-filtering software.
If VAL 43 occurs on both your usual connection and the hotspot, a network-only explanation is less likely. A VPN is not a default fix: it can add latency, change routing, create authentication problems, and complicate support diagnosis.
3. Renew the IP address and flush DNS
Riot’s connection guidance recommends renewing the IP address and clearing the DNS cache for persistent connection failures.
- Close browsers and other applications that use the network.
- Open Command Prompt. Administrator rights may be requested by Windows.
- Run each command separately:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns- Restart Windows.
- Reopen Riot Client and test VALORANT.
The same Riot guide lists public DNS examples—Google DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) and Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1). Changing DNS is an optional diagnostic, not a required VALORANT setting and not a remedy for a Riot outage. Avoid disabling IPv6 as a first-line fix; if you test any protocol change, make it reversible and restore the original setting if it does not help.
4. Check firewall and security software
Riot identifies firewall interference as a possible cause of VALORANT and Vanguard connection failures. In Windows Firewall and any third-party antivirus or firewall, check that the Riot Client, VALORANT, and Vanguard components have appropriate allow rules.

Prefer allow rules over permanently disabling protection. If you briefly disable third-party security software for diagnosis, do so only long enough to test, then re-enable it immediately. Never download unofficial “VAL 43 fix” executables, registry cleaners, or driver-updater tools.
5. Rename relevant local cache or configuration folders
Riot’s launch-troubleshooting guidance includes clearing game-related local data for certain launch failures. Treat this as a controlled diagnostic, not a guaranteed VAL 43 fix.
- Close VALORANT and the Riot Client, then confirm no related processes remain.
- Follow Riot’s current instructions for the specific Riot Games and VALORANT folders under
%LOCALAPPDATA%. - Rename a relevant folder (for example, add
.old) before deleting anything. This creates a rollback option. - Launch Riot Client again and allow it to recreate required data.
Removing configuration data can reset settings. Do not delete the entire AppDataLocal directory or unrelated Riot game and account files.
6. Use a Windows clean boot for interference testing
A clean boot is useful when VALORANT works immediately after a reboot but fails later, or when the problem began after installing or updating an overlay, antivirus, RGB utility, VPN, monitoring tool, or another launcher. Riot lists clean boot among its launch-troubleshooting steps.

Use Windows’ System Configuration tools to start with non-Microsoft services disabled, test VALORANT, and then restore normal startup afterward. A clean boot is a diagnostic state, not a permanent recommended configuration.
7. Reinstall only after the earlier checks
Riot’s escalation path places reinstalling VALORANT and Vanguard after connection, local-data, firewall, clean-boot, and other launch troubleshooting. Reinstallation consumes time and bandwidth, may require settings to be restored, and cannot fix an outage, account-session problem, or bad network route.
Reinstall Vanguard only when the actual symptom indicates a Vanguard installation problem or Riot specifically instructs you to do so. Do not reinstall it merely because the screen says VAL 43.

Console players
Do not apply Windows-only commands or firewall and AppData instructions to a console. Restart the console and router, test another network where possible, check the relevant platform’s service status, and use Riot Support if the error persists. The PC Vanguard reinstall path does not transfer directly to console.

When to contact Riot Support
Submit a ticket through Riot Support when VAL 43 continues after checking status, restarting, testing the network, reviewing firewall rules, and trying appropriate local cleanup. Contact support sooner if the issue affects one account across multiple networks, or if other Riot services work while VALORANT does not.
Include:
- your Riot ID, region, Windows version, and PC specifications;
- the approximate start time with time zone;
- the exact error text and a screenshot;
- whether one account, one PC, or multiple players are affected;
- whether a phone-hotspot test worked;
- recent Windows, driver, antivirus, VPN, or router changes; and
- logs collected with Riot’s Riot Repair Tool if support requests them.

Is VAL 43 proof that my account is banned?
No. The code alone does not establish a suspension. Use Riot Support for account-specific confirmation.
Should I reinstall VALORANT immediately?
No. Check Riot status, restart the client and PC, test the network, review firewall rules, and try appropriate local cleanup first.
Will changing DNS always fix VAL 43?
No. DNS changes are an optional network diagnostic and cannot repair a Riot service outage.
Why does VALORANT work on a hotspot but not my home internet?
