Short answer: For a balanced 2024 Counter-Strike 2 system, the GeForce RTX 4070 Super is the safest all-round choice, especially for native 1440p and high refresh rates. For budget 1080p, choose a Radeon RX 7600 or GeForce RTX 4060. The Radeon RX 7800 XT is the strongest 1440p value option. At 4K, start with an RTX 4070 Super or RX 7800 XT and move to an RTX 4080 Super or RX 7900 XT for high-refresh headroom.
CS2 is often CPU-limited at 1080p competitive settings, so the fastest graphics card is not automatically the best upgrade. Match the GPU to your resolution, refresh-rate target, processor, power supply and the other games you play. These recommendations describe the US 2024 market; GPU generations and street prices have changed since then.

Exact FPS cannot be transferred between systems. Map, smoke effects, player count, memory speed, driver, settings and whether a result is an average or a 1% low all change the outcome. Independent ComputerBase testing found RTX 4060-, RTX 3060 Ti- and RX 7700 XT-class cards around the point where 144 FPS becomes practical under its demanding test conditions, while higher targets require both a faster GPU and CPU. See ComputerBase’s CS2 benchmark results.
How demanding is Counter-Strike 2?
Valve lists a four-hardware-thread processor, an Intel Core i5-750-or-newer-class CPU, AMD GCN or newer graphics, NVIDIA Kepler or newer graphics and current Vulkan drivers as minimum requirements on the CS2 Steam page. Steam’s technical support page also points to the Vulkan requirement. Those specifications mean “launches and runs,” not “holds 144, 240 or 360 FPS.”

At 1080p low or stretched 4:3, the game engine can become CPU-limited before a modern GPU is fully loaded. A more expensive card then raises neither average FPS nor 1% lows proportionally. At native 1440p, 4K or maximum settings, the GPU carries more of the workload.
Use utilization to find the bottleneck
- GPU at roughly 95–100%: a faster GPU or lower settings can materially change frame rate.
- GPU well below full load while FPS is low: investigate CPU speed, memory configuration, drivers, background tasks and frame-time behavior.
- High average FPS but poor 1% lows: prioritize CPU/platform stability and frametime consistency rather than peak GPU throughput.
- Little FPS change between 1080p and 1440p: the processor is probably limiting performance.
Best GPU for 1080p CS2
100–144 FPS: Radeon RX 7600 or GeForce RTX 4060
These are sensible new-card starting points for a 1080p/144Hz monitor. The RX 7600 emphasizes raster value; the RTX 4060 adds lower power consumption, NVIDIA Reflex and a broad software ecosystem. Both have 8GB, generally adequate for CS2 at this resolution. Neither fixes a weak CPU.
240 FPS: RTX 4060 Ti, RX 7700 XT or RTX 4070
These cards provide more GPU headroom, but a 240Hz target still depends heavily on the processor and memory. Buy the model that has the best 2024 street price and fits your other games; do not assume the GPU alone guarantees 240 FPS in every smoke-heavy fight.
360 FPS and above
An RTX 4070 Super, RX 7800 XT or RTX 4080 Super can make sense only with a very fast gaming CPU and a genuine 360Hz or 500Hz display. An RTX 4090 is difficult to justify for 1080p CS2 unless you also run unusually demanding games or workloads.

Best value: Radeon RX 7800 XT
The RX 7800 XT’s 16GB framebuffer and strong raster performance make it the value recommendation for native 1440p and a reasonable 4K entry point. It is less attractive for compact, low-power systems or buyers who specifically need NVIDIA Reflex, CUDA or NVIDIA’s encoder features.
Best balanced choice: GeForce RTX 4070 Super
The RTX 4070 Super combines high-refresh 1440p performance, 12GB of GDDR6X, modest power demand and NVIDIA features. It is the safest all-round 2024 recommendation when the system has a capable CPU and the owner also plays modern games beyond CS2.
More headroom: RTX 4070 Ti Super or RX 7900 XT
These cards suit demanding settings, high-refresh 1440p and occasional 4K. Their additional cost is difficult to recover in 1080p competitive play if the CPU is already the limit.
ComputerBase’s demanding 1440p testing placed cards such as Arc A770, RX 5700 XT, RX 6650 XT and RTX 2060 around an 80-FPS class under its specific conditions, demonstrating why resolution and quality settings must be stated with any comparison. See the test methodology and results.
Best GPU for 4K CS2
Playable 4K: RX 7800 XT or RTX 4070 Super
These are sensible starting points for native 4K with adjusted settings. Upscaling can raise performance, but competitive players may prefer native rendering or a consistent lower internal resolution for clarity and latency.

High-refresh 4K: RTX 4080 Super or RX 7900 XT
Move to these classes for substantially more headroom at 4K, especially when playing other demanding games. The RTX 4080 Super has 16GB; the RX 7900 XT has 20GB.
Extreme: RTX 4090
The RTX 4090 is the maximum-headroom option in the 2024 range, but it is excessive if CS2 is the main game. Its size, power requirements and price only make sense for a broader high-end system.

ComputerBase found that 4K demands significantly more GPU hardware, with RTX 4070, RTX 3080, RX 7800 XT and RX 6800 XT-class cards appearing in its demanding test range. It also found 8GB workable in that CS2 Ultra HD test; that result should not be generalized to every future game. Read the 4K test details.
240Hz, 360Hz and 500Hz: buy the platform, not just the GPU
High-refresh competitive play rewards stable frame times and low latency. Pair a 240Hz target with a strong modern gaming CPU such as a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Ryzen 7 7800X3D or Core i5/i7-13600K-class chip. For 360Hz and above, prioritize a high-end gaming CPU, fast stable dual-channel memory and clean background processes before stepping up to an extreme GPU.
NVIDIA promotes Reflex for CS2 and RTX 40-series cards; Reflex is a latency feature, not an FPS multiplier. Its benefits should be understood through NVIDIA’s own material or independent latency measurements, not treated as proof that every NVIDIA card is universally faster. See NVIDIA’s CS2 Reflex page and its CS2 launch feature article.

NVIDIA versus AMD for CS2
Choose NVIDIA when features and efficiency matter
- Reflex support is directly relevant to competitive latency.
- RTX 4060 and RTX 4070-class cards are attractive for lower-power or compact systems.
- DLSS, CUDA, NVENC and broad driver support help in other games, streaming and creator software.
- The RTX 4070 Super and RTX 4080 Super are balanced choices in their tiers.
Choose AMD when raster value and VRAM matter
- RX 7600 is a viable low-cost 1080p option.
- RX 7700 XT provides a 12GB midrange 1440p tier.
- RX 7800 XT supplies 16GB and strong raster performance per dollar.
- RX 7900 XT offers 20GB for high-end 4K raster workloads.
Independent testing has shown NVIDIA advantages in some CS2 conditions, but the size of any lead varies with CPU, driver, map and settings. AMD is not categorically unsuitable, and NVIDIA is not automatically the best value. Compare complete systems rather than brand averages.

How much VRAM does CS2 need?
- 8GB: generally adequate for 1080p and many 1440p CS2 configurations.
- 12GB: a comfortable target for a new 1440p purchase, especially if you play other games.
- 16GB or more: useful for 1440p longevity, native 4K, texture-heavy games and non-gaming workloads.
VRAM cannot compensate for a weak GPU core or CPU. NVIDIA lists 8GB on the RTX 4060, 12GB on the RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Super, 16GB on the RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4080 Super, and 24GB on the RTX 4090 in its RTX 40-series specifications. Its 4070-family page lists the relevant memory interfaces. AMD’s Radeon 7000 specifications and competitive reference sheet list 8GB for RX 7600, 16GB for RX 7600 XT and RX 7800 XT, 12GB for RX 7700 XT, 20GB for RX 7900 XT and 24GB for RX 7900 XTX.
Settings, upscaling and latency
Competitive players usually use 1080p or stretched 4:3, low or mixed settings and a frame-rate floor higher than the monitor’s refresh rate. Maximum settings and native 4K are a different workload. Ray tracing is not the deciding feature for CS2.
DLSS and FSR can help at 1440p or 4K, but test image clarity at your chosen resolution. Frame generation can increase the displayed frame count without providing the same latency behavior as genuinely rendered frames, so it should not be treated as a substitute for low-latency native frames in serious competition.

Laptops
Laptop RTX 4060 and RTX 4070 parts are not equivalent to desktop cards. Power limit, cooling, CPU, memory configuration, MUX switch or Advanced Optimus and panel resolution all change performance.
Small-form-factor PCs
The RTX 4060 is often easier to fit because short, low-power dual-slot designs exist. RX 7800 XT and RTX 4080-class boards may be too long, thick or thermally demanding for compact cases.
Power supplies and fit
Use the manufacturer’s recommended PSU as a baseline, then verify PSU quality, available PCIe connectors, total system draw, case clearance and airflow. AMD’s reference guidance lists 550W for RX 7600, 600W for RX 7600 XT, 700W for RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT, 750W for RX 7900 XT and 800W for RX 7900 XTX; board-partner models and complete systems can differ. See the AMD reference sheet.
Should you upgrade the GPU or CPU?
- Record your CPU model, memory channel configuration and memory speed.
- Monitor GPU utilization, average FPS and 1% lows during an actual match, including smoke-heavy fights.
- Raise resolution or quality temporarily. If FPS barely changes, the CPU or engine is limiting performance.
- If the GPU is near full utilization, a faster card can help; if not, prioritize CPU, memory, cooling, drivers and background processes.
- Verify your monitor’s native resolution and refresh rate before buying a card intended for a higher target.
