How NYT Connections works
Connections gives you 16 terms and asks you to sort them into four groups of four that share a category. Some links are straightforward, while others rely on wordplay or deceptive overlaps. The puzzle’s difficulty colors run from yellow (easiest) through green and blue to purple (most difficult).

Several entries invite natural but incorrect associations. “Face,” “image,” “regard” and “standing” all describe reputation, while the shoe terms can be separated from the accommodation words only after noticing that “room,” “seating,” “chairs” and “capacity” describe available accommodation. The remaining four words reveal their connection at the ends, producing NASTY, GROSS, ICK and EW.
