Xbox error 0x87e50007 usually indicates that a game or app has an outdated, incomplete, or inconsistent update. Start by checking the affected title for updates, then quit it fully and restart the console. If several games fail, or the error returns after reinstalling, investigate Xbox services, networking, storage, and the console software rather than repeatedly updating one title.
This guidance applies to Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. Dashboard wording can differ by console generation, language, and system version.
Quick fix checklist
- Check the affected game or app for an available update.
- Install the update completely before launching the title.
- Quit the title and remove it from Quick Resume when applicable.
- Restart the Xbox; power-cycle it if a normal restart fails.
- Check Xbox service status and test the console’s network.
- Retry or cancel a stuck update after checking storage and downloads.
- Reinstall only the affected game or app.
- Use Reset and keep my games & apps only for persistent system-level problems.
What error 0x87e50007 means
In most cases, the code points to an update or installation problem with the game or app you are trying to open. A pending update may not have installed automatically, or a crash may have left the title in an inconsistent state. Similar launch failures can also result from damaged files, insufficient storage, a licensing or sign-in problem, an Xbox service interruption, or a broader console software issue. The code alone does not prove that the Xbox hardware is defective. Microsoft maintains an official page for the code at Xbox Support.
1. Install the game’s pending update
This is the best first step when one title fails immediately.

- Open My games & apps.
- Highlight the affected game or app.
- Press the controller’s Menu button (the button with three horizontal lines).
- Choose Manage game and add-ons, or the equivalent management option.
- Open Updates and install anything listed.
- Wait until the download and installation finish, then launch the title once.
You can also check My games & apps → Manage → Updates. Labels vary between dashboard builds. If no update appears, continue with the next step instead of repeatedly launching the queued title. The update-management path and reinstall remedy are also documented in current Xbox troubleshooting coverage at Pure Xbox.
2. Quit the title and clear a suspended session
Quick Resume or a suspended Xbox One session can preserve a stale or damaged process.
- Highlight the game or app on Home or in My games & apps.
- Press Menu and select Quit.
- On Series S or Series X, remove the title from Quick Resume if it appears there.
- Wait a few seconds and start it again.
3. Restart, then power-cycle the console
Normal restart
- Hold the Xbox button on the controller.
- Select Restart console.
- After the dashboard returns, try the game again.
Full power cycle
- Hold the physical Xbox power button for about 10 seconds, until the console shuts down.
- Unplug the power cable.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the cable, turn on the console, and test the title.
A power cycle clears temporary console state; it normally does not remove installed games, apps, profiles, or saves. It is not a factory reset. See Microsoft’s restart and power-cycle guidance.

4. Check Xbox services and your network
Before deleting anything, check Xbox status for incidents affecting gaming, accounts, the Store, subscriptions, cloud gaming, or cloud saves. An outage can block authentication, licensing checks, or updates even when local files are healthy. Wait for service restoration if an incident is listed.

If needed, run Test multiplayer connection. Restart your router or modem when the test reports a fault; a temporary wired Ethernet or alternate-network test can separate Wi-Fi problems from console problems. Networking menus vary by system build. Microsoft’s connectivity material is available at Xbox Support.
5. Repair a stuck or failed update
- Open the download or installation queue and pause, then resume, the affected update.
- Cancel only that update when it is clearly stuck, restart the console, and retry it.
- Check available storage; the required free space depends on the game and update, so no universal number applies.
- Pause other downloads and try again after checking Xbox status.
- Use a wired connection or restart the router if downloads repeatedly fail.
If the console itself cannot complete a system update, check Settings → System → Updates and use Xbox’s system-update or recovery guidance rather than continuing to launch the game. Microsoft’s update guidance is at Microsoft Support.

6. Reinstall the affected game or app
Reinstall when updating, quitting, restarting, and network checks do not resolve a one-title problem.
- Open My games & apps and highlight the title.
- Press Menu, then choose Uninstall or Uninstall all.
- Reinstall it from Owned games, Game Pass, the Microsoft Store, or your library.
- Allow the base installation and every additional update to finish before launching.
What happens to saves?
- Removing installed game files does not by itself erase the game from your account.
- Cloud-synchronized saves normally return after signing in with the same Xbox profile and completing synchronization.
- An unsynchronized local save may not be recoverable. Do not choose delete everywhere or an equivalent cloud-deletion option unless you accept that loss.
Disc games may still require the disc for licensing; clean and reseat it. For digital or subscription titles, confirm that the owning account is signed in and that the subscription is active.

- Replacement Parts for XBOX One
- NOTE: Please Double Check the Part is What Your Need
- Please Replace This Part Under Professional Guide, If Not, NO TRY
- Please Make Sure No Man-Made Damage or Scratch when Returning
This option retains installed games and apps but removes accounts, settings, and potentially local profile data. Have your Microsoft account credentials ready and expect to sign in again and resynchronize content. It is more disruptive than a restart or reinstall and cannot repair a failing drive or other hardware fault. Xbox’s factory-reset guidance is at Xbox Support. Avoid Reset and remove everything unless you have deliberately backed up or accepted the loss of local content and settings.
Choose the next step by symptom
| Symptom | Next step | What it suggests |
|---|---|---|
| One game fails immediately | Check that title’s updates, then reinstall if needed | Title-specific update or installation issue |
| An update is queued | Let it finish before launching | Incomplete update state |
| No update appears | Quit the title and power-cycle the console | Stale suspended process |
| Several games fail | Check Xbox status, network, storage, and console updates | Service, account, storage, or system problem |
| Update repeatedly fails | Check storage, pause other downloads, and test another network | Local space, connection, or service problem |
| Reinstall changes nothing | Consider Reset and keep my games & apps | Deeper console software or settings issue |
| Games crash before the code appears | Investigate the crash itself | The code may be a follow-on launch error |
When several games fail
Multiple-title failures shift the diagnosis away from one damaged installation. Check service status and network sign-in first, then power-cycle the console and verify system updates. If games are installed on an external USB drive, test another title from that drive and, if possible, move or reinstall the affected game on internal storage. Several failures from the same drive can indicate a drive or connection problem, but the error code alone does not prove it.
Preview or Xbox Insider builds can introduce update or launch regressions; include the console’s build status when contacting support. Clearing an alternate MAC address is not a universal fix and is relevant mainly to particular network configurations.

When the error appears after a crash
Some players report that a game crashes during play and then shows 0x87e50007 on the next launch. Those reports are anecdotal, not proof of a universal cause. Quit the title, power-cycle the console, and reinstall it if necessary, but also investigate overheating, repeated shutdowns, storage errors, or a game-specific crash. If every title begins crashing, treat the launch code as a symptom of a broader console problem.
When to contact Xbox Support
Contact Xbox Support if multiple titles still fail after service and network checks, reinstalling, and a keep-games-and-apps reset; if the console cannot update; if the code returns immediately after the reset; or if you see overheating, unexpected shutdowns, storage errors, or repeated crashes. Provide the exact code, affected titles, whether they are digital, subscription, or disc-based, where they are installed, and which steps already succeeded.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does error 0x87e50007 delete saved games?
The error itself does not delete saves. Reinstalling removes local installation files; cloud-synchronized saves normally resynchronize, while unsynchronized local data may be lost. Never choose a cloud-deletion option unless you understand the consequence.
Will reinstalling always fix 0x87e50007?
No. Reinstallation repairs damaged local files, but service outages, account licensing, storage faults, console software, and hardware problems can produce the same launch failure.
Does 0x87e50007 affect Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles?
It is reported on Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. Menu names and Quick Resume behavior can differ by dashboard version.
Should I factory-reset my Xbox immediately?
No. Update, quit, restart, power-cycle, service-status, network, and reinstall steps are less disruptive. If a reset becomes necessary, try Reset and keep my games & apps before considering a full deletion reset.
