For most wireless Turtle Beach headsets, connect the included USB transmitter to the PS5, turn on the headset, then choose it under Settings > Sound > Audio Output and Settings > Sound > Microphone. Set Output to Headphones to All Audio for game sound and chat. The exact method still depends on your model, generation, and whether it is the PlayStation or Xbox version.
Before you start
- Identify the complete model name and generation, including “for PlayStation,” “for Xbox,” or “multiplatform.”
- Charge the headset and locate its original USB wireless transmitter, if supplied.
- Have the charging/firmware USB cable available. A charging cable is not automatically a wireless audio transmitter.
- For a wired setup, find a compatible 3.5 mm cable. Microphone support may require a four-pole TRRS cable specified by the model manual.
- Leave a free PS5 USB port available. Update firmware later through Turtle Beach Audio Hub or Swarm II if your model supports it.
Turtle Beach’s current PlayStation range includes products such as Stealth 600 Gen 3, Stealth 700 Gen 3, Stealth 500, Atlas 200, and Recon models: Turtle Beach PlayStation headsets.
Identify the correct connection method
| Headset type | Normal PS5 connection | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Wireless with USB transmitter | 2.4 GHz wireless through the supplied dongle | Connect the transmitter, power on the headset, and select the USB audio device. |
| Wired 3.5 mm headset | DualSense controller headset jack | Plug in the cable and configure output and microphone settings. |
| Wireless model with Bluetooth | Usually the transmitter for PS5 gaming | Use Bluetooth for mobile devices unless the exact manual explicitly confirms PS5 Bluetooth support. |
| Older wireless model | Model-specific transmitter and pairing process | Use the exact Turtle Beach guide for that model. |
| Xbox-only version | May not work with PS5 | Verify the platform designation before troubleshooting. |
How to connect a wireless Turtle Beach headset to PS5
- Charge the headset. Use its USB cable and confirm it has enough battery. Charging alone does not carry wireless game audio.
- Plug in the transmitter. Insert the supplied Turtle Beach USB transmitter directly into a PS5 USB port. Do not substitute a random Bluetooth adapter.
- Turn on the headset. Keep it near the transmitter. A solid or otherwise connected status light indicates success; flashing meanings vary by model.
- Choose the output device. On the PS5, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output and select the Turtle Beach headset or displayed USB audio device. Sony documents this menu at PS5 support.
- Route all sound to the headset. Set Output to Headphones to All Audio. Choosing chat-only audio can leave game sound coming from the TV.
- Select the microphone. Open Settings > Sound > Microphone and choose the Turtle Beach headset as Input Device.
- Set the microphone level. Choose Adjust Microphone Level and speak normally. Raise it until your voice registers clearly without constantly hitting the maximum.
- Test both functions. Start a game, check game audio, then join a party and confirm other players can hear you. Make sure the headset volume wheel is raised and its microphone is unmuted.
You can also press the PS button, select Mic, and change the input, mute state, or microphone level from the Control Centre. Sony’s wireless-headset guidance is at Pair a headset with PlayStation.
How to connect a wired Turtle Beach headset
- Insert the 3.5 mm plug fully into the DualSense controller’s headset jack.
- If the headset uses a detachable lead, connect the other end to the headset.
- Open Settings > Sound > Audio Output and select the controller or headset if the PS5 did not switch automatically.
- Set Output to Headphones to All Audio.
- Under Settings > Sound > Microphone, select the controller headset microphone or relevant headset input and adjust its level.
- Use the headset’s inline volume and mute controls. A cable made for audio only may not carry microphone input; check the exact model’s manual.
What to do when automatic wireless pairing fails
There is no universal Turtle Beach button sequence. Stealth, X42, PX5, XP500, Delta, and older models use different procedures. Use this safe recovery pattern, then follow the exact model guide:

Bluetooth: why it usually is not the PS5 method
Bluetooth on a Turtle Beach headset is often intended for a phone or tablet, including mobile audio while the console uses the transmitter. A Bluetooth-enabled headset is not automatically a direct-Bluetooth PS5 headset. For PS5 game and chat audio, use the supplied USB transmitter or a wired DualSense connection unless the exact Turtle Beach documentation says otherwise. The Stealth 500P, for example, has no built-in Bluetooth according to its official pairing guide.
Troubleshoot a Turtle Beach headset with no sound
- Confirm the headset is powered on and charged.
- Connect its original transmitter directly to the PS5 and try another USB port.
- Open Settings > Sound > Audio Output and select the displayed Turtle Beach or USB device.
- Set Output to Headphones to All Audio.
- Raise both the headset’s physical volume and PS5 headphone volume.
- Remove unnecessary USB audio devices and restart the headset.
- Update firmware if the model supports Audio Hub or Swarm II.
- Re-pair the transmitter and headset using the model-specific guide.
Troubleshoot a microphone that does not work
- Flip the boom down if the model mutes when raised, and release the headset’s physical mute control.
- Check that the DualSense mute button is not active.
- In Settings > Sound > Microphone, select the Turtle Beach input and raise Adjust Microphone Level.
- For wired headsets, verify that the cable supports microphone input and is fully inserted.
- Disconnect an active Bluetooth phone call. On models supporting simultaneous Bluetooth, a call can take priority over console microphone routing; see Turtle Beach’s Bluetooth guidance.
- Confirm you own the PlayStation-compatible version, not an Xbox-only variant.
When the transmitter is detected but the headset will not connect
The dongle may belong to another model or generation, the headset and transmitter may have lost their pairing, the battery may be too low, or firmware may be incompatible. Keep the devices close, restart both, and repeat the exact pairing process. A continuously flashing indicator does not have one universal meaning; consult the guide for your model rather than applying another headset’s button sequence.

Firmware and companion software
Firmware is a troubleshooting and maintenance step, not a mandatory first step for every headset. Older products may use Turtle Beach Audio Hub on Windows or Mac. Newer Stealth 600 and Stealth 700 Gen 3 products promote the Swarm II desktop and mobile app. Install only the software and update procedure listed for your exact model. The app customizes or updates the headset; it does not replace the PS5 transmitter.
Which Turtle Beach headsets work with PS5?
Compatibility depends on the model, generation, platform version, and connection hardware. Current PlayStation product pages identify compatible configurations for models such as the Stealth 600 Gen 3 and Stealth 700 Gen 3. An Xbox-only headset, a headset missing its proprietary transmitter, or a model requiring obsolete hardware may not be practical to use. Check the full product label before buying a replacement; a compatible transmitter may be a better solution than replacing the entire headset.

In Settings > Sound > Audio Output, set Output to Headphones to All Audio, then raise both PS5 and headset volume.
