Truly silent gaming mice are rare. Most products quieten the left and right clicks while leaving the scroll wheel, side buttons, shell and desk contact audible. For most late-night players, the Razer Pro Click Mini is the best ready-made compromise: independent testing finds its main clicks unusually quiet while its sensor remains capable of ordinary FPS gaming. It is compact, battery-powered and not an esports ultralight, however. This guide separates near-silent clicks from overall noise and weighs quietness against latency, shape, wireless reliability and comfort.
Quick verdict
| Mouse or approach | Best for | Noise assessment | Gaming assessment | Main compromise |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Razer Pro Click Mini | Quiet gaming in shared rooms | Near-silent main clicks in RTINGS testing; wheel can be louder | Impressive for FPS for a productivity-shaped mouse | Compact, battery-powered design and reported wake delay |
| Razer Pro Click V2 | Work and gaming crossover | Verify the exact revision before expecting Mini-level quietness | Up to 1,000-Hz polling and low-latency performance in independent comparisons | Heavier ergonomic shape; not left-handed |
| Logitech MX Master 3S | Ergonomic productivity and casual games | Logitech claims 90% less click noise | Suitable for casual play, not competitive FPS | Large, heavy, right-handed and productivity-focused |
| Logitech MX Anywhere 3S | Compact travel and laptop use | Reduced click noise versus the preceding MX Anywhere 3 | Casual gaming only; connection mode matters | Limited palm support and no esports focus |
| Silent-switch modification | Performance-first enthusiasts | Depends on the chosen switch and installation | Preserves the target gaming mouse’s shape, sensor and polling | Soldering, compatibility and warranty risks |
The table compares documented characteristics rather than a universal decibel ranking. No consistent, independently calibrated noise test covers all five options.
What “silent” means on a gaming mouse
Silent mechanical switches use damping to reduce the impact and return sounds of a click. A mouse advertised with “quiet clicks” usually refers only to its primary buttons. Optical switches are not automatically quiet, and a damped main button does not silence the wheel or side controls.
Use this practical scale:
- Near-silent: main clicks are barely audible in ordinary use, although other controls may not be.
- Quiet: substantially softer than a conventional gaming mouse.
- Muted: lower-pitched or damped, but still clearly audible.
For a sleeping partner or roommate, test the wheel as carefully as the left and right buttons. For a microphone, the result depends on microphone distance, pickup pattern and noise-gate settings.

How the picks were assessed
Noise descriptions are attributed to manufacturer claims or independent reviews rather than presented as laboratory results. Gaming suitability considers polling rate, click and sensor latency, wireless behavior, shape and weight where the cited sources establish them. Advertised DPI is treated separately from responsiveness: DPI controls sensitivity, polling rate controls report frequency, and click and sensor latency describe input delay.
The practical weighting is 30% click and wheel noise, 25% gaming responsiveness, 15% shape and comfort, 10% wireless reliability, 8% controls and software, 7% battery or charging and 5% value. Competitive FPS players should increase the responsiveness and shape portions; casual players can give more weight to comfort and noise.
1. Razer Pro Click Mini: best ready-made quiet gaming compromise
Why choose it
RTINGS describes the Pro Click Mini’s silent switches as producing very little noise and considers the mouse impressive for FPS gaming: independent testing. Its compact, symmetrical body suits claw, fingertip and compact palm grips and does not impose a right-handed ergonomic contour.
Important limitations
- Small-to-medium hands are the safest fit; larger hands may feel cramped.
- It uses batteries rather than the modern rechargeable USB-C format many gaming buyers expect.
- The notched/free-spin wheel and tilt controls can be more audible than the primary clicks.
- Tom’s Hardware reported a noticeable wake-from-sleep delay and described the mouse as less suitable for hardcore gaming: review details.
- Its productivity-oriented controls and non-ultralight construction are poor matches for tournament-focused players.
Verdict: buy it when quiet main clicks matter more than minimum weight, instant wake and USB-C charging. Check the wheel in person if streaming or sharing a bedroom.

The Pro Click line beats the MX Master 3S for gaming in RTINGS’ comparison because of stronger sensor performance, up-to-1,000-Hz polling and excellent click latency: comparison. Windows Central reports that the V2 can use one Razer HyperSpeed 2.4-GHz connection, three Bluetooth connections and wired mode: review.

- The next-generation optical HERO sensor delivers incredible performance and up to 10x the power efficiency over previous generations, with 400 IPS precision and up to 12,000 DPI sensitivity
- Ultra-fast LIGHTSPEED wireless technology gives you a lag-free gaming experience, delivering incredible responsiveness and reliability with 1 ms report rate for competition-level performance
- G305 wireless mouse boasts an incredible 250 hours of continuous gameplay on just 1 AA battery; switch to Endurance mode via Logitech G HUB software and extend battery life up to 9 months
- Wireless does not have to mean heavy, G305 lightweight mouse provides high maneuverability coming in at only 3.4 oz thanks to efficient lightweight mechanical design and ultra-efficient battery usage
- The durable, compact design with built-in nano receiver storage makes G305 not just a great portable desktop mouse, but also a great laptop travel companion, use with a gaming laptop and play anywhere
That combination makes it attractive to a right-handed user who moves between office devices and games. It is better suited to MMO, strategy, action and casual FPS play than the MX Master range. Do not automatically treat it as a near-silent mouse: verify the exact V2 revision and regional switch implementation before buying. Its ergonomic shell is heavier and less agile than a competitive gaming design, and left-handed users are excluded.
3. Logitech MX Master 3S: best ergonomic work-and-play hybrid
Logitech claims that the MX Master 3S’s Quiet Clicks produce 90% less click noise and specifies an 8,000-DPI sensor: official product page. Its large, right-handed shape, thumb controls and MagSpeed wheel favor long office sessions, browsing and editing. The US store price observed in source material ranged from $99.99 to $119.99 depending on edition, color and promotion; check the current listing before purchase.
Do not confuse 8,000 DPI with gaming responsiveness. Independent comparisons favor the Razer Pro Click for sensor behavior, 1,000-Hz polling and click latency: RTINGS comparison. Bluetooth and productivity-oriented wireless behavior can also be less appropriate for latency-sensitive play than a dedicated 2.4-GHz receiver.

- Quieter Click: Logitech’s SilentTouch Technology reduces over 90 percent (1) of clicking sounds — ensuring top performance while contributing to a quieter working environment
- Crafted for Comfort: Design with naturally shaped contoured plastic grips, the M330 SILENT wireless mouse is built for long-lasting comfort and functionality for right-handed users
- Long Battery Life: M330 SILENT has a 18-month battery life (2) and power saving auto-sleep mode; it allows you to focus on your work without the hassle of changing batteries (1 x AA included)
- Advanced Optical Tracking: With a wireless range of up to 33 ft (10m)(3), this quiet computer mouse provides high-performance precision and smart cursor control on most surfaces
- Plug and Play: M330 SILENT comes with a USB-A receiver that’s compatible with most operating systems including Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and Linux
This is a quiet office and travel mouse, not an esports alternative. Compact dimensions provide less palm support, and gaming latency and receiver behavior depend on the connection mode. Choose it when portability and reduced click noise outweigh competitive performance.
5. Silent-switch modification: best performance-first route
The ready-made market rarely combines genuinely quiet switches with a modern lightweight gaming shell. Enthusiasts therefore install compatible silent mechanical switches in a gaming mouse. Community discussions describe this approach, including Huano and Kailh examples, but they are anecdotal rather than manufacturer guarantees: community discussion.
What the modification requires
- A mouse whose PCB footprint, switch height, plunger geometry and electrical characteristics match the replacement.
- Disassembly and usually soldering equipment and skill.
- Testing for actuation, debounce and double-click behavior after installation.
Silent switches can change actuation force, pre-travel, rebound and tactile feedback. They may still be audible, and an installation can damage the PCB or complicate warranty service. This is the route for players who value a chosen mouse’s shape, sensor, weight and polling rate more than plug-and-play convenience—not a sixth retail recommendation.

Late-night gaming near a sleeping person
Start with the Pro Click Mini, then listen to its wheel and middle click. If wheel noise is unacceptable, no “silent clicks” label alone solves the problem; test another design or modify a suitable mouse.
Competitive FPS
Prioritize shape, weight, 2.4-GHz or wired operation, polling rate, click latency and sensor behavior. The Pro Click Mini is the quietest ready-made compromise in this list, but a compatible silent-switch modification preserves more esports-oriented hardware.

Office, streaming and gaming at one desk
The Pro Click V2 offers the strongest multi-device case, while the MX Master 3S favors comfort. Put the microphone farther from the mouse than from your mouth, use a directional pattern where appropriate, and tune an expander or moderate noise gate. Test wheel sounds separately; do not promise an inaudible stream.

Compare the compact Pro Click Mini and MX Anywhere 3S. The former is the gaming-capable choice; the latter is the simpler travel and productivity option.
Large hands and palm grip
The MX Master 3S provides the most substantial ergonomic support, but its size, weight and right-handed shape make it a poor competitive-FPS pick.
Noise and performance checks buyers should make
- Click the left and right buttons at normal and rapid cadence.
- Test side buttons, middle click, wheel ratchet, free-spin transition and tilt-click.
- Listen for shell creak, feet on a hard desk and noise when lifting or placing the mouse.
- Use 2.4-GHz or wired mode for the lowest-latency experience when available; Bluetooth can be perfectly usable casually but may add a consistency trade-off.
- Check sleep and wake behavior, especially if brief movements precede important actions.
- Confirm the exact model and revision: Pro Click, Pro Click Mini and Pro Click V2 are different products, as are standard, Mac and business MX editions.
Why common “silent mouse” advice fails
Office mice such as Logitech’s M330 can be very quiet—Logitech’s own white paper reports a 93.3% reduction in its comparison—but that manufacturer measurement does not establish gaming latency or sensor quality: white paper. Likewise, isolated decibel figures from niche sites cannot be compared responsibly without the same calibrated equipment, distance, room noise and peak/average method. Quietness is not a substitute for polling rate, click latency or a comfortable gaming shape.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Choose the Razer Pro Click Mini for the best out-of-box combination of very quiet main clicks and credible FPS capability. Choose the Pro Click V2 for a stronger work/gaming crossover when absolute quietness is secondary, the MX Master 3S for ergonomic productivity and casual games, or a carefully matched silent-switch modification when competitive hardware matters most.
