On PC, the quickest way to make VRChat fullscreen is Quick Menu → Main Menu → Settings → Graphics → Basic → Fullscreen → On. If VRChat keeps opening windowed, add -screen-fullscreen 1 to Steam’s launch options. The steps below cover desktop, Steam, Oculus PC, and standalone Quest versions.
Method 1: Turn on fullscreen in VRChat
- Launch VRChat in Desktop Mode.
- Press Escape to open the Quick Menu.
- Click the expansion button in the Quick Menu’s upper-right corner to open the Main Menu.
- Select Settings, then open Graphics.
- Under Basic, set Fullscreen to On.
- If needed, choose a supported value under Screen Resolution.
VRChat’s current labels are Screen Resolution and Fullscreen. Available resolutions depend on your monitor and the modes VRChat recognizes. See the VRChat Settings and Main Menu documentation.
Method 2: Force fullscreen with Steam launch options
Use this method when the in-game setting is not retained or VRChat always starts windowed.
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click VRChat and choose Properties.
- Open the Set Launch Options field.
- Enter
-screen-fullscreen 1. - Close the Properties window and launch VRChat normally.
VRChat documents -screen-fullscreen N, where 1 enables fullscreen and 0 disables it. The value must be a number, not true or false. Consult VRChat’s launch-options documentation.

For a different monitor, replace the -monitor value with its one-based number. VRChat’s documented options and requirements are listed at https://docs.vrchat.com/docs/launch-options.
Choosing a resolution
Use the in-game Screen Resolution control or specify both dimensions with launch options. Do not enter an arbitrary size: unsupported width or height values may be ignored or fail to apply. If a custom resolution causes trouble, remove both dimension options and test only -screen-fullscreen 1.
Force Desktop Mode
If VRChat keeps opening in SteamVR instead of as a normal monitor application, add --no-vr:

Set the monitor VRChat uses
Add -monitor N to the launch options. Numbering is one-based:
-monitor 1 -screen-width 1920 -screen-height 1080 -screen-fullscreen 1This example opens VRChat fullscreen at 1920×1080 on monitor 1. Use -monitor 2 for the second display, and so on. The option is documented at https://docs.vrchat.com/docs/launch-options.

Steam’s Properties → Set Launch Options field supports the documented Unity options above.

Oculus PC / Meta Rift
The Oculus PC / Meta Rift launcher does not natively provide VRChat launch options. VRChat’s documentation says to create a shortcut to the VRChat executable and place the required options on that shortcut. Steam instructions do not apply to this launcher.
Standalone Oculus/Meta Quest
The standalone Quest application does not support PC launch options such as -screen-fullscreen 1. Those commands apply to the PC version.
Fixes when fullscreen does not work
Confirm the field and syntax
Enter the command in Steam Library → right-click VRChat → Properties → Set Launch Options. Do not paste it into Windows Command Prompt, VRChat’s chatbox, or another in-game text field. Use exactly -screen-fullscreen 1; VRChat accepts 0 or 1, not words such as true, false, yes, or no.
Test without a forced resolution
Unsupported width and height values can prevent the requested mode from applying. Clear the dimensions and test:

-screen-fullscreen 1If that works, add a width and height that your monitor and VRChat list as supported.
Remove conflicting options
Clear the launch-options field and test only the documented fullscreen command. Avoid undocumented force options; VRChat warns that they can create startup problems. See VRChat’s launch-options guidance.
Check the selected monitor
If fullscreen appears on another display, set the destination explicitly with a one-based value such as -monitor 1 -screen-fullscreen 1.
Advice that is outdated or unsupported
Holding Shift at launch
Older Unity and VRChat discussions mention holding Shift to open a graphics configuration window. It should not be your primary method now; use VRChat’s Graphics settings or documented launch options. -popupwindow for guaranteed borderless fullscreen
Third-party guides often suggest -popupwindow, but it is not listed among VRChat’s current documented fullscreen options. Prefer -screen-fullscreen, -screen-width, -screen-height, and -monitor.
F11 as a VRChat fullscreen shortcut
F11 is not listed as a current VRChat fullscreen control in the official desktop keyboard documentation. The documented controls include Escape for the Quick Menu and R for the Action Menu, not F11. See VRChat Keyboard and Mouse Controls.
Changing Windows display resolution first
You do not need to change Windows’ display resolution for the normal procedure. VRChat exposes Screen Resolution in Graphics and supports resolution launch options. Changing Windows resolution is a troubleshooting workaround, not a requirement.
Best choice for most players
Steam users should start with -screen-fullscreen 1. Add -screen-width and -screen-height only when the display mode is supported and you need to force a particular resolution. If VRChat launches in VR unexpectedly, prepend --no-vr; if it uses the wrong display, add the one-based -monitor option.
