The Gigabyte G27Q is still a capable 27-inch 1440p gaming monitor, but in 2026 it makes sense mainly when it costs noticeably less than newer alternatives. Its flat IPS panel, 144Hz refresh rate, adaptive sync and low input lag suit everyday PC gaming; weak HDR, gray-looking blacks in dark rooms, limited stand adjustment and older connections make it a poor choice at a near-modern price.
Verdict: buy it only at a clear discount
For SDR gaming in a bright or moderately lit room, the G27Q delivers the fundamentals many players want: QHD resolution, smooth 144Hz motion, wide IPS viewing angles and variable refresh rate. Its USB hub and built-in speakers are useful extras. But 144Hz is no longer unusual, and the display does not offer the contrast, HDR performance, connectivity or stand flexibility of the better-equipped newer choices.
- Buy it if it is substantially cheaper than comparable new 165Hz–180Hz 1440p IPS monitors and you value a flat IPS screen, a USB hub or its simple gaming setup.
- Compare first if prices are close. A newer model may add a higher refresh rate, USB-C, KVM or more adjustable stand.
- Skip it if convincing HDR, dark-room blacks, USB-C/KVM, swivel adjustment or 240Hz competitive gaming is important.
There is no reliable universal buy price here: Gigabyte’s retailer locator does not establish a current G27Q price. Compare the actual listing with new alternatives, and factor in the return window and warranty if buying used or refurbished. Gigabyte’s U.S. retailer locator is a starting point, not a price guarantee.

These specifications are from Gigabyte’s U.S. G27Q specifications. The product page also describes features such as Adaptive-Sync and OSD Sidekick: Gigabyte G27Q product page.
Image quality: strong everyday SDR, modest contrast
QHD sharpness and IPS viewing angles
At 27 inches, 2560 × 1440 gives games and desktop text more detail than 1080p at the same size without the rendering load of 4K. The IPS panel keeps the image more consistent when viewed off-center, which helps in shared viewing and multi-monitor setups.
Wide gamut is not the same as accuracy
Gigabyte’s stated gamut figures indicate broad color coverage, and RTINGS describes the tested unit’s SDR gamut as outstanding, with strong Adobe RGB coverage. That does not prove factory calibration or ensure that sRGB content will be displayed accurately. For sRGB-targeted work, check for a usable sRGB mode or use a calibration workflow. Serious color-critical work calls for calibration and a display with stronger uniformity and calibration documentation.
Brightness and black levels
The listed 350 cd/m² typical brightness is enough for many well-lit rooms, and independent testing found reflection handling reasonable. The 1000:1 typical contrast is ordinary for IPS: blacks can look gray in a dark room. Lowering brightness may make the image more comfortable, but it cannot give this panel the deep blacks of a higher-contrast display.

RTINGS tested a unit manufactured in August 2020; its review was first published on January 21, 2021 and updated through October 23, 2023. Its findings are useful independent evidence, not a fresh test of every unit sold today: RTINGS Gigabyte G27Q review.
Gaming: smooth 144Hz with variable refresh rate
RTINGS rates the G27Q very well for gaming, citing its 144Hz refresh rate, very low input lag, good response behavior at maximum refresh and wide viewing angles. It supports adaptive sync; RTINGS reports G-SYNC compatibility, which is not the same as native hardware G-SYNC. Variable refresh rate can reduce tearing as PC frame rates fluctuate, but 144Hz only helps when the connection, display mode, graphics card and game settings allow the monitor to run at that rate.
It is well suited to single-player games, racing, strategy and general play. Competitive players who can sustain very high frame rates may prefer a 240Hz-or-faster display. Performance is less compelling at 60Hz than at maximum refresh, and response behavior depends on refresh rate and overdrive setting.
Do not read “1ms MPRT” as a promise that every pixel transition finishes in one millisecond. MPRT is a motion-blur-reduction specification, not a universal gray-to-gray result. Choosing the strongest overdrive setting automatically can also produce inverse ghosting; use a sensible setting and judge it in motion.

HDR: supported, but not a reason to buy
The G27Q accepts HDR and carries a DisplayHDR 400 specification, but HDR image quality is weak. RTINGS found that the monitor lacks the brightness, contrast and local dimming needed for convincing highlights; its IPS blacks also look gray in dark scenes. Wide color gamut does not make up for those limitations. Treat HDR as basic compatibility, not a major image-quality upgrade. For ordinary desktop use, SDR will generally be more consistent; enable HDR when you specifically want to use HDR content.
Design, ports and ergonomics
The flat screen avoids the curve of some alternatives. HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2 cover the basic video connections, and two USB-A ports provide a convenient hub. The monitor also has a headphone output and modest built-in speakers. It lacks USB-C and a KVM switch, so it is less convenient for laptop-first or multi-computer desks.
The stand adjusts for height and tilt, but not swivel. “Adjustable” is not the same as fully flexible: aligning a side-by-side display or positioning the screen for a shared desk may be awkward. The 100 × 100mm VESA pattern allows a compatible arm as a workaround. Check the arm’s weight rating and screw length, and avoid overtightening screws into the chassis. Gigabyte lists the stand and mounting details on its specification page.
Productivity and content creation
The 27-inch QHD desktop offers room for documents, timelines and side-by-side windows, while IPS viewing angles help when someone else is looking at the screen. The USB hub can reduce desktop cable clutter. A lack of USB-C means a laptop will not get the single-cable video-and-peripheral convenience available on some newer monitors.

For creators, the G27Q’s wide gamut is useful with compatible wide-color content, but gamut coverage alone does not guarantee accurate color. Use an appropriate sRGB mode or calibration workflow when color matters. For demanding color-critical work, its calibration documentation and unit-to-unit uniformity are not established by the listed specifications.
Using it with PS5 or Xbox
Connect a console over HDMI and verify the resolution, refresh and VRR modes that the console actually offers for this display. The HDMI 2.0 inputs are appropriate to a 1440p-class display, but console modes depend on the console, game, firmware and display settings. The monitor’s 144Hz ceiling is mainly a PC advantage; consoles generally target lower fixed refresh rates.
PC testing of FreeSync or G-SYNC compatibility does not establish every console VRR mode. Test VRR in an actual game rather than relying only on the console’s information screen. If a mode fails, try another HDMI cable, reset the monitor’s input settings and recheck the console’s display options. Current model-specific PS5 and Xbox testing is not established by the available independent review.

| Option | Key distinction | Better fit when… |
|---|---|---|
| Gigabyte G27Q | Flat IPS, 144Hz; USB-A hub; height and tilt adjustment | You want IPS viewing angles and can buy it well below newer comparable displays. |
| Gigabyte G27QC | Curved VA, 165Hz according to RTINGS’ comparison | You prefer a curved screen and potentially stronger VA contrast over IPS viewing angles. VA motion and viewing-angle behavior are trade-offs. |
| Gigabyte M27Q | RTINGS identifies USB-C, KVM, Picture-by-Picture and Picture-in-Picture features | You use a laptop or switch between computers and value workflow features. The G27Q may handle reflections or brightness better in some testing, so the M27Q is not automatically preferable for every bright room. |
| Newer 165Hz–180Hz 1440p IPS monitor | Potentially higher refresh and newer stand or connectivity; varies by model | Its current price is close to the G27Q and it offers features you would use. |
| 240Hz monitor | Higher refresh ceiling | Competitive play and the PC hardware to take advantage of the additional refresh are priorities. |
| OLED or stronger-contrast VA display | Potentially deeper blacks and, for OLED, much stronger HDR contrast; model-specific trade-offs apply | Dark-room contrast or HDR matters more than matching the G27Q’s simple IPS value proposition. |
The G27Q/G27QC comparison is documented by RTINGS’ comparison tool. Check exact model specifications before buying: G27QC, G27Q20 and G27Q2 are different products, not interchangeable names for the G27Q.

PC setup and software
- Connect the PC by DisplayPort where possible, using a cable and graphics output that support the intended mode.
- Select 2560 × 1440 at 144Hz in Windows display settings and the GPU control panel. The exact path and labels vary by Windows and driver version.
- Enable Adaptive-Sync/FreeSync in the monitor’s on-screen display if it is off. Enable G-SYNC or G-SYNC Compatible mode in the NVIDIA control panel if the display is detected and you want to use it.
- Choose a moderate overdrive setting rather than assuming the strongest option is best; check for inverse ghosting in motion.
- Use SDR for ordinary desktop work unless you specifically need HDR content. Use an sRGB mode or calibration workflow when accurate sRGB output matters.
- Connect the monitor’s USB upstream cable to the PC if you want its USB hub or OSD Sidekick software. Gigabyte says OSD Sidekick requires the USB connection; a video cable alone is insufficient.
Gigabyte’s support page lists GIGABYTE Control Center version 26.08.03.01, dated August 3, 2026, for Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 64-bit, and lists OSD Sidekick versions from 2021. These software listings do not establish that every owner needs an update. See Gigabyte G27Q support.
Firmware: check the model before doing anything
Gigabyte’s support page has a firmware category, but the available page information does not establish a clearly readable current firmware version. Do not infer a version or flash firmware just because a download exists.
- Confirm the exact model on the rear label and box.
- Use only firmware listed for that exact model, not a file for the M27Q, G27QC, G27Q20, G27Q2 or another similarly named monitor.
- Read the firmware notes and instructions, then connect the required USB cable if specified.
- Do not interrupt power during an update.
- If the monitor works normally and the notes do not address a problem you have, an update may offer little practical benefit.
Problems to check before keeping a used or open-box unit
- Inspect for dead or stuck pixels, uneven backlighting and IPS glow; panel appearance varies by unit.
- Test for flickering with Adaptive-Sync enabled. If it occurs, try another cable or input, a different frame-rate cap and updated GPU drivers; VRR flicker can depend on frame-rate behavior, drivers, game engines and firmware.
- Test both HDMI inputs, DisplayPort, the USB hub, speakers and headphone output.
- Check that the included power adapter is present and that the height-adjustment mechanism works.
- Confirm VESA mounting threads, exact model label, return window and warranty status or transferability.
If Gigabyte’s OSD Sidekick cannot detect the monitor, check the USB connection between the PC and display; Gigabyte says that link is required. If HDR looks dull, limited brightness, 1000:1 IPS contrast and the lack of local dimming are likely contributors, though game calibration and operating-system HDR settings also affect the result.
Final buying decision
Judge the G27Q against the actual alternatives available to you, not an old review price. It is a sensible purchase when the discount is clear, 144Hz is enough, SDR is your priority and the stand or a monitor arm fits your desk. If a newer 165Hz or 180Hz 1440p display costs nearly the same, its added refresh, connectivity or ergonomics may be better value. Verify the exact model and return protection before committing.
