How Connections works

The New York Times Help Center describes Connections as a puzzle in which players sort 16 words into four groups of four. Each puzzle has one solution, but words may appear to fit more than one category; editors curate the words and themes using the Oxford Dictionary. The Help Center says the daily puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. Its access and archive details were checked on September 30, 2026, and may change: it describes the game as free to play on NYT Games and other NYT platforms, with the archive available to All Access and Games subscribers and reaching back to June 12, 2023.
