The US launch announcement listed Amazon availability at $1,499.99, but that was a launch price; current stock and pricing are not established here.
The monitor combines a 5120 × 1440 ultrawide image, 240 Hz refresh rate, USB-C docking, a KVM switch and Ambiglow lighting. Its main compromises are the physical size, OLED brightness limiting and uneven support for the 32:9 aspect ratio in games.

What the 32:9 QD-OLED format is good at
Immersive games that support SuperWide
A 5120 × 1440 canvas gives compatible racing, simulation and first-person games a much wider horizontal view than a conventional 16:9 monitor. The 1800R curve keeps the edges angled toward the player. QD-OLED pixels provide the deep blacks and saturated color associated with OLED, while 240 Hz is aimed at high-frame-rate play.
Multitasking without two panels
The width is useful for placing several application windows side by side. USB-C docking can carry a laptop connection while supplying up to 90 W, and the KVM switch lets two computers share connected peripherals. These features make the 49M2C8900 more than a single-purpose game screen for a desk that can accommodate it.
Independent review: strengths and caveats
TechRadar reviewer Isaiah Williams said he used the monitor for just over a month for work and play in a review published November 9, 2025. He praised the immersive 32:9 view, OLED blacks, vivid color, smooth 240 Hz gaming and the space available for multitasking.
Automatic brightness limiting
Williams found the Auto Brightness Limiter (ABL) aggressive. OLED monitors can reduce full-screen brightness to manage panel power and heat; on this model, the reviewer considered the effect noticeable. Brightness behavior is therefore an important personal-tolerance issue, especially for desktop work with large white windows.

Games do not all support 32:9
Some games may render with side bars, crop the image or otherwise fail to use the full width. Before buying, check the specific games you play rather than assuming that a title supporting ultrawide resolutions will support 32:9 correctly.

- INNOVATIVE QD OLED TECHNOLOGY: The Philips 27M2N8500 features cutting-edge QD OLED technology that combines Quantum Dot and OLED for superior color accuracy, vibrant images, and deep blacks.
- ULTRA-SMOOTH GAMING: A rapid 360Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms response time deliver ultra-smooth visuals, perfect for fast-paced competitive gaming.
- DISPLAYHDR TRUE BLACK 400: Experience deeper blacks and brilliant brightness with VESA-certified HDR that enhances your gaming and viewing experience.
- ENHANCED GAMING ATMOSPHERE: Ambiglow technology adds a halo of light that matches the on-screen content, creating an immersive gaming environment.
- ERGONOMIC DESIGN FOR COMFORT: Tilt, swivel, and height-adjustable stand ensures optimal comfort for extended gaming sessions. VESA mount compatibility adds flexibility.
Desk footprint and lighting behavior
The screen can exceed the width or depth available on smaller desks. Williams also reported occasional Ambiglow color inconsistency. A VESA arm may help with placement, but the arm must be rated for the display’s weight and size and match the regional VESA pattern.
How much GPU power does 5120 × 1440 at 240 Hz need?
The panel’s maximum refresh rate does not guarantee that every game will reach 240 frames per second. Rendering 5120 × 1440 pushes substantially more pixels than 2560 × 1440. Williams reported that a demanding game at this resolution taxed a high-end GPU in his setup; that observation is not a universal benchmark.
- Check your graphics card’s outputs and support for the monitor’s required resolution and refresh rate.
- Use the game’s own frame-rate testing or a reliable benchmark for the titles you play.
- Expect to adjust quality settings or use resolution scaling in demanding games if you want higher frame rates.
- Remember that a 240 Hz panel still benefits from lower frame rates through adaptive sync; 240 fps is not a requirement for the monitor to be usable.
Connectivity, docking and mounting
Philips’ US product material identifies HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort and USB-C. Because suffixes differ by region, confirm the exact number of ports, their revisions and included cables before purchase. The launch announcement specifies USB-C docking with up to 90 W power delivery and a KVM switch for two computers sharing peripherals.
The stand is adjustable and the monitor is VESA-compatible. If desk depth is limited, measure the panel, stand and viewing distance before ordering. For an arm, verify its load rating, supported screen size and the monitor’s precise regional mounting specification.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Philips Evnia 49M2C8900 worth buying?
It is a strong fit when you specifically want a single 32:9 QD-OLED for supported games, value 240 Hz motion and OLED contrast, and will use USB-C docking or KVM on a large desk. It is a weaker fit if your games are mostly 16:9, you need consistently bright full-screen desktop output, or your desk and GPU cannot accommodate the format.
