Which free GeoGuessr alternative fits you?
Choose WorldGuessr for the closest cross-platform Street View experience
WorldGuessr is the most direct pick if you want the familiar task of identifying locations from navigable street imagery while switching between browser and mobile play. It offers unlimited guest rounds, ranked and team duels, private parties and community maps. Its official page says it is independent and unaffiliated with GeoGuessr.
Choose OpenGuessr for unlimited browser-first core play
OpenGuessr lets you begin without an account and advertises unlimited free core play, multiplayer, duels and competitions. Supporter options add perks such as cosmetics and ad-free play, so the free experience is distinct from its paid extras.
Choose Where Am I? when you prefer moving video on a phone
Where Am I? replaces freely navigable panoramas with street-walk videos. It is built for iOS and Android and includes ranked play, friend duels and daily modes. The download is free, with ads and optional purchases disclosed.

Choose City Guesser for video-based group sessions
City Guesser also uses walking-tour videos rather than Street View navigation. It is suited to hosted group play; the comparison describes free rooms for up to 250 players, but verify that capacity on the current official site before planning a large event.
Choose GeoGuess for still-photo rounds
GeoGuess uses real-world photographs instead of navigable panoramas. Its official site confirms free photo guessing and multiplayer, making it a better fit for players who want to interpret a single image rather than move through a scene.
Choose TimeGuessr for history as well as geography
TimeGuessr adds a date component to historical-photo rounds. It is the specialist choice when recognizing an era, event or visual style matters as much as identifying the place.

GeoGuess Lite uses Mapillary imagery and OpenStreetMap rather than Google Maps APIs. That makes it the distinctive option for readers interested in a more open-source-oriented approach; availability can depend on the current hosted or self-hosted deployment.
Choose FreeGuessr or Geotastic for conventional browser quizzes
FreeGuessr offers solo play with restrictions alongside Arena, duels, parties and daily variants. Geotastic provides a free Quick Play route, while some rooms require supporter access. Pick FreeGuessr for a more explicitly competitive menu, or Geotastic for quick quiz sessions.

How these games differ from GeoGuessr
Format
WorldGuessr, OpenGuessr, FreeGuessr and Geotastic are the closest Street View-style substitutes. Where Am I? and City Guesser use moving street videos. GeoGuess uses still travel photographs, TimeGuessr uses historical images, Hide & Seek World turns Street View into a social search game, and GeoGuess Lite uses Mapillary imagery.
Free access and accounts
“Free” does not mean the same thing across the list. Some games provide unlimited core rounds, while others restrict solo modes, reserve rooms for supporters, show ads or sell optional extras. OpenGuessr can be started without an account; other services may need an account for saved statistics, hosting or particular multiplayer features.
Multiplayer
Look for the exact mode you need: ranked matches, one-on-one duels, team duels, public competitions, private parties or large video rooms. A game can be free for solo play while limiting private rooms or advanced modes.

On GeoGuessr’s official web free-access page, the five-location Daily Challenge is free. Explore, multiplayer Duels, private Party games and custom content are marked as subscription-included.
The Steam edition has a separate offer. Its support FAQ, modified May 12, 2026, states: “The GeoGuessr Steam Edition is free to download and play!” The same FAQ describes free Quickplay Solo Duels, Quickplay Team Duels and a five-location Daily Challenge; additional modes require purchases or an eligible web subscription. Do not treat the web and Steam lists as interchangeable.
