Resident Evil 6 is a survival-horror game built around several interconnected campaigns and multiplayer formats rather than a single linear scenario. What Resident Evil 6 is
Capcom announced Resident Evil 6 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC as a survival-horror title. The original console release schedule placed North America and Europe on October 2, 2012, and Japan on October 4, 2012, after a schedule change. Capcom said the PC launch date would be announced separately.

Capcom’s 2012 announcement also gave historical series context: the Resident Evil franchise had shipped 47 million units worldwide as of December 31, 2011, while Resident Evil 5 had shipped 5.8 million. Those figures describe the series and its predecessor at that date, not Resident Evil 6 sales.
How the campaign and play modes are organized
Solo campaign play
The official web manual covers starting the campaign, saving and loading, player and partner actions, screen information, item slots, healing, route guidance, and skill settings. These are the authoritative instructions for the game’s controls and systems; button layouts and some options can vary by edition, especially on PC.

Online co-op and crossover play
The manual documents online cooperative play and crossover multiplayer. That means the campaign can be approached with another player online, with story interactions designed to let separate play sessions intersect. Check the platform storefront for the current online requirement before purchasing.
Split-screen co-op
Local split-screen multiplayer is also documented. It is the option for playing with friends or family on the same system, subject to the edition’s local-player support and controller requirements.

Mercenaries
Mercenaries is a separate mode covered by the manual. It provides a replay-focused alternative to the campaign, so the game’s content is not limited to its story scenarios.
Agent Hunt
Agent Hunt is another documented mode. It changes the way a session can be experienced by adding a distinct player-controlled perspective to eligible situations. Consult the in-game and manual descriptions for the exact rules on your edition.

DLC
The manual includes DLC information. Do not assume that every platform package contains identical add-ons: edition pages, regions, and release formats can differ.
What the US PS4 edition includes
The current US PlayStation listing identifies the PS4 release as a March 29, 2016 game from Capcom U.S.A., Inc. It describes solo and co-op play and states that this edition includes all DLC plus two costumes for each main character. The displayed price was $19.99 when the listing was retrieved; store prices and availability can change.

- Confirm that the listing is the US PS4 edition if you expect the contents described above.
- Verify the current price and availability at checkout.
- For online play, make sure the account has PlayStation Plus.
- If playing on PS5, check the current compatibility notice and any feature limitations.
Xbox
The Xbox US storefront states that console online multiplayer requires an Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate subscription, sold separately. Subscription names, terms, and store availability can change, so verify the live Xbox listing before purchase. The Xbox statement does not establish that its DLC, costumes, or player limits match the US PS4 package.

Capcom’s manual includes PC-version information, but the available announcement did not provide a final PC launch date. Check the current PC store page for operating-system requirements, control options, included add-ons, and online-service terms rather than applying console details.
Nintendo Switch
Capcom provides a Resident Evil 6 support category and online manual for Nintendo Switch. The available support material does not establish the Switch edition’s current price, exact included content, platform parity, or online conditions. Confirm those points on the relevant regional store page.
