Meta Quest 3S is a standalone mixed-reality headset that runs the Meta Quest game and app library, with color passthrough and the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform listed for Quest 3. Its lower-cost positioning comes with meaningful trade-offs: lower display resolution, a narrower field of view, no listed depth sensor, and three fixed IPD settings rather than continuous adjustment. Meta announced 128GB and 256GB models; its original $299.99 starting price was a 2024 launch price, not a current quote.
What the Quest 3S is
Meta announced Quest 3S on September 25, 2024, positioning it as a more affordable way into the Quest 3 family’s mixed-reality experiences. The headset is all-in-one: it does not require a PC or console to run Quest games and apps. Meta and Qualcomm describe it as supporting the Quest software library, including games and applications; that compatibility is the companies’ stated support, not an independent test. Meta’s announcement and Qualcomm’s product note also point to gaming, fitness, multitasking, and watching films on a large virtual screen as intended uses.
Like other mixed-reality headsets, Quest 3S uses cameras to show a color view of the real surroundings inside the headset, with virtual content layered into that view. Meta lists stereoscopic 4MP color passthrough. This lets the headset serve both fully virtual experiences and mixed-reality apps, though its hardware is not identical to Quest 3.
Quest 3S and Quest 3 compared
Meta’s device comparison, updated September 18, 2026, shows that the headsets share a processor and several core capabilities, but differ in the display and optics that shape what you see. The figures below are Meta’s published specifications, not independent measurements.

| Estimated battery life | Approximately 2.5 hours, per Meta | Not stated in the cited comparison |
Both models are listed with hand tracking, room-scale play, and Quest Link cable or Air Link support. A shared processor does not mean the headsets look or feel the same: Quest 3’s higher per-eye resolution and wider field of view are substantial specification differences. The three preset IPD positions on Quest 3S may also be less flexible than Quest 3’s continuous adjustment for some users.
Meta’s approximately 2.5-hour battery figure is an estimate in its comparison, not independently measured runtime. Actual use can vary with settings and what you are running.

Storage, price, and what to check before buying
Meta announced 128GB and 256GB Quest 3S configurations. Its September 2024 announcement gave a U.S. launch starting price of $299.99; that is historical and should not be treated as today’s price. TechCrunch reported on April 16, 2026, that U.S. prices would rise by $50 effective April 19, 2026, to $349.99 for 128GB and $449.99 for 256GB. That is secondary reporting, not a live retailer listing. Check the current seller price, availability, and local currency for your region before deciding.

Storage matters because downloaded games and apps occupy space on the headset. Choose a capacity based on how many titles you expect to keep installed; the available sources do not establish how much usable storage remains after system software or how much any individual game requires.

Quest 3S Xbox Edition was announced by Xbox on June 24, 2025, as a limited 128GB bundle with a custom headset, Touch Plus controllers, a limited-edition Xbox Wireless Controller, Meta Quest Elite Strap, and three-month subscriptions to Meta Horizon+ and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Xbox listed an announced U.S. price of $399.99 and availability through Meta.com and Best Buy in the U.S., and Argos and EE in the U.K., while quantities lasted. That announcement does not establish that the bundle or subscriptions are still available; it is not what comes with every standard Quest 3S.

Xbox also said Bluetooth pairing is supported for Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, and Xbox Adaptive Controller. Its Xbox app provides a route to Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) on Quest, but cloud play depends on supported titles and the applicable Game Pass membership. Check current app availability, the supported-game catalog, and subscription terms. Details are in Xbox’s bundle announcement.
