Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf Epic Games Launcher keeps sending you back to the login screen, fully exit the launcher and clear its web cache first. Epic identifies cached session data and cookie conflicts as common reasons for repeated login-page returns; clearing the launcher cache is a reversible first step, not a guaranteed fix. If the loop happens in a browser, try Epic-specific cookie cleanup and a private window instead.
Check Epic’s service status first
Before changing files or credentials, check the Epic Games Public Status page. Look at Login and Website, and check Game Services or Epic Online Services if the message points to those features. If a relevant service is degraded or unavailable, wait for Epic to resolve the incident and retry when status returns to operational; local cache changes cannot fix a service-side outage.
Clear the launcher cache on Windows
- Exit Epic Games Launcher. If it is still running, click the up-arrow or chevron in the Windows notification area, right-click the Epic Games icon, and choose Exit.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
%localappdata%, and press Enter. - Open
EpicGamesLauncher, thenSaved. - Delete any of these folders that are present:
webcache,webcache_4147, andwebcache_4430. Not every installation has all three. - Open the launcher and sign in again.
Epic’s documented cache procedure is limited to those webcache folders. Do not delete the whole Saved directory or the entire EpicGamesLauncher folder. The launcher may take a little longer to open while it rebuilds local web data, and you may need to authenticate again. Removing the listed cache folders does not delete your Epic account.
See Epic’s launcher troubleshooting instructions; its wrong-account guidance documents the same Windows cache locations.

- Open Finder and choose Go → Go to Folder….
- Enter
~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncherand press Enter. - Move the

Epic documents this cache path in its launcher troubleshooting guide and account-session article.
If the browser sign-in page is looping
If the sign-in page reloads repeatedly, or browser sign-in succeeds but the launcher stays logged out, use this sequence:
- Clear Epic Games cookies and site data in the browser first, rather than wiping data for every website.
- Open Epic’s sign-in page in an Incognito or Private window. If that works, stale cookies, a saved session, an extension, or a privacy setting may be involved; clear Epic-specific site data and check extensions rather than relying on private browsing permanently.
- Try another browser to see whether the problem is limited to one browser profile.
- Temporarily disconnect any VPN or proxy, then retry. These services can interfere with authentication, but are not the cause of every loop.
- Complete the browser-to-launcher handoff and check whether the launcher now shows the intended signed-in account.
These browser and network tests are among the steps in Epic’s guidance for users who are stuck in a login loop.

If Epic keeps signing into the wrong account
A wrong-account loop is different from a rejected password: authentication may have succeeded, but through a browser session or linked provider for another Epic identity. Check the account email shown after sign-in and make sure you chose the intended provider and profile, such as PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Google, or Apple.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Sign out of Epic in the browser.
- Open a private or incognito window and sign in to the intended Epic account.
- If the launcher still returns to the wrong account, exit it fully and clear its web cache using the Windows or macOS steps above.
Do not unlink accounts or reset a password until you have confirmed which Epic account the selected provider is opening. Epic’s wrong-account sign-in guidance covers this session issue.
Check credentials, verification, and the connection
If the loop remains, test the account and network without assuming the cache is still the cause:

- Confirm the email address or external-account provider is the one for the intended Epic account. If practical, test the same credentials on Epic’s website.
- Check whether Epic is waiting for two-factor authentication or email verification, or whether the account is locked or otherwise restricted.
- Check that the computer’s date and time are reasonably accurate; incorrect system time can complicate sign-in checks.
- If you are on a school, workplace, or public Wi-Fi network, check for a captive portal and try a trusted alternative network, such as a phone hotspot. A firewall or antivirus web filter may also interfere; do not leave protection disabled. If you make a temporary test exception, restore the protection afterward.
These are diagnostic checks, not a claim that each condition is an Epic-confirmed cause of login loops. Epic specifically recommends disconnecting VPNs or proxies while testing; its page does not establish every other item here as a cause.
Update the launcher or test administrator access
If you can reach the launcher interface, apply any available update or choose Restart and Update when prompted. If the installed copy cannot update, download the current installer only from Epic’s official website. Do not use unofficial older-version downloads.

Epic includes updating and a one-time administrator launch among its launcher troubleshooting steps.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If the message mentions Epic Online Services or installation
A prompt that repeatedly says Epic Online Services must be installed or updated, or an installer that rolls back, is not necessarily a browser authentication loop. Treat it as an installation or service problem:
- Check Epic’s live status page, including Epic Online Services.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the launcher as administrator once and retry.
- Use the current official Epic Games Launcher installer if an update is needed.
- If installation still fails, note the exact error code and contact Epic Support.
Do not delete Epic Online Services files, edit the registry, use unofficial installers, or run third-party cleaner utilities as a workaround. Epic’s launcher troubleshooting guide covers updating and reinstalling; it does not establish those unofficial file-removal methods as fixes.

Reinstall only after the less disruptive fixes
Important: Epic warns that reinstalling the launcher removes installed titles. Do not treat a reinstall as harmless or assume games will be preserved or rediscovered automatically.
Consider it only after checking service status, clearing launcher and browser session data as relevant, testing the account and connection, and trying an update from the official installer. Before uninstalling, record where games are installed, confirm you can access your Epic account in a browser, and make sure you have your credentials and two-factor method. Do not manually delete game-library folders. Use only the installer from Epic’s official website, and consult Epic’s reinstall guidance.
When to contact Epic Support
Contact Epic if website sign-in also fails after browser-data troubleshooting; you cannot complete verification; the account is locked, compromised, or tied to the wrong provider; the launcher still loops after cache cleanup and a current official installation; or an Epic Online Services error includes a code. Use Epic’s official support channels rather than phone numbers or services from third-party sites.
Include the exact error wording and any code, screenshots, your operating system, whether browser sign-in works, whether the status page showed an incident, and what happened after cache deletion. Provide launcher logs if Epic Support asks for them.
